I'm sure someone will find a way to twist the following statement to make me look like a prick or
self-hating negro but here it is anyway: I'm tired of seeing soccer movies about poor, brown
people.
Documentary makers, you know we're not a monolith right? There are well-to-do brown folks that play
soccer as well.
The Virginia Beach Piranhas jumped right into the 2011 PDL season with a 2-0 win against the
upstart Fredricksburg Hotspur.
Looking to stay undeafeated to start the 2011 campaign, the Piranhas will again be home hosting the
Real Maryland Monarchs at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex, Saturday, May 15.
The Anderson Monarchs Documentary: $25000 Raised, Team Donates Too
The documentary reached its $25000 goal two days ahead of time.
Since latching onto the Union, interacting with the Sons of Ben and covering the team through
this blog, I've had the privilege of working with some of the finest on charities. With the 'Stache
Bash turning out to be a rousing success, I've turned to trying out new charity movements.
One that I was recently alerted to, The Anderson Monarchs, was something that I thought was
important to support.

Let me start with a disclaimer: I am no chicken little. I have no wish to create a perception of
watching a clear sky then screaming that the heavens are crashing down. Saturday night was
phenomenal and there is little to match the rush of beating a favored New York team, but once the
high subsided the crash was a bit harder for me than I would like.
The Anderson Monarchs are talented students and gifted athletes who are creating a level playing
field for girls everywhere. The team plays on a modest pitch and has virtually no money. But they
have something special, a sisterhood that is supported by their community of parents and their
coach.
