If you weren't satifisfied with the nine goals scored in the four MLS playoff games this past
weekend, you certainly would have gotten your fill of goals if you were lucky enough to see Lyon
and Marseille battle to a 5-5 draw on Sunday.
Lyon edged closer to first-place Monaco with the tie, but will feel disappointed at not having
been able to secure the three points in a match it led on three different occasions.
It is difficult for a team to recover after losing few games in a row so you can imagine how
Grenoble players feel after losing 12 straight games. The League
Cup defeat to Lorient probably wouldn't be a problem if it weren't for 11 defeats in as many Ligue
1 games this term.
In France's Ligue 1 the defending Bordeaux F.C. champions fought to retake the lead in their
division. It was a special game for the Bordeaux Girondins after defeating Les Mans 3-0 to retake
the one point lead over Monaco. Also in the league Lyon lost to Nice 4-1.
Bordeaux has been trying to stay on the top of the league after winning last years Ligue 1
cup.
Listen to Emmanuel Petit, David Dein and Lee Dixon during a special programme, Arsene at
60, on BBC Radio 5 live at 2000 BST on Thursday.
I wonder what Dein will have to say. He has had a complex relationship with Wenger, being
responsible for his arrival but his business dealings clashed with Wenger's philosophy of
developing low budget talent.
Sixty years ago today, our fine manager was born – Happy Birthday, maybe even you will raise a
glass today, no doubt a few fans will
I am sure most of us thought ‘Who the heck is this man?' when he arrived at Highbury to take
over from Rioch, and I am even more sure that many of us thought ‘He'll never last' – But he
has and now having celebrated 13 years with the club, today he celebrates reaching the ripe old age
of 60!

I know this sounds a bit weird given the circumstances and the fact that Ronaldinho hasn't
played good football since 2006. But yes, he won the Golden Foot award. As we know, though, the
point of the award is to celebrate a player's (the ones over 28 years old) career and overall
accomplishments, judged by a jury made of international journalists.
AS Monaco are the only Ligue 1 club not based in France as they are actually
based in the principality of Monaco. They are, nevertheless, one of the most successful clubs in
the country but Les Rouge et Blanc have struggled to return to the big stage ever since
losing the Champions League final to Porto in 2004.
Click to continue reading...
Miron says they are Monaco. Monaco? Monaco? Why do we need this in the A-League? Only 4,000 fans now - friends and family of the players. What
is Jason Culina thinking playing for this rabble? What if they had opened the A-League season? And Wellington dominated the game. Should have won if Leo Bertos could shoot as well as he can run
with the ball. Click to continue reading...

Arsene Wenger insists he has no plans to retire despite the Arsenal boss approaching his
60th birthday next month.
The Frenchman is in his 14th season in charge of the Gunners, making him the second
longest-serving manager in the Premier League behind Sir Alex Ferguson.
[France WCB] I think we've decided Nike are currently reigning supreme in the world of football
advertisements - at least those which don't involve Luis Fabiano and a bee suit. They're also
testing the bounds of conventional advertisement, as a bunch of naked Germans will tell you. Not
wanting to fall behind, they've continued their dive [. Click to continue reading...
In a weekend which saw a total of 35 goals scored in 10 fixtures, this really was an occasion
for the strikers rather than the defenders of Ligue 1! Â Several matches finished with more than 4
goals scored between the two sides and there was a minimum of two goals scored in every game
played.
I don't have anything against City fans. These guys have suffered a lot over the last two decades.
Newcastle fans may lay a claim to have suffered more but atleast they didn't have a city rival
winning Premier league after league besides seeing their own club struggle to compete at the
highest level themselves. Click to continue reading...
Christophe Jallet celebtates his goal against Lille
It was a weekend of big matches with champions Bordeaux taking on runners-up Marseille and
fallen giants Lyon against a team who have put together some impressive results so far Nancy. Â A
few changes were made overall to the Ligue 1 table, with newly promoted Montpellier rocketing into
4th place and Lille slipping into the relegation zone all after 4 matches played.
