performance which is not the best condition in which to write a blog.
THFC1882 present a match report by Anthony Lombardi
Liverpool and Tottenham: Both Clubs Fail to Dare and To Do.
Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur drew 0-0 at Anfield, in a tight Premier League encounter that
neither team wanted to lose, or seemed determined enough to try and win.
For much of this season, Spurs number one Brad Friedel has quietly gone about his business and
at times, solid performances across the back four have provided him with little to do. When called
upon, the American is an uncomplicated keeper who has brought calm between the posts where once
there was chaos.

It has been one hell of a busy fortnight in the world of Tottenham Hotspur – and not a whisper of
any of it from The Boys From White Hart Lane. For shame.
So, in a desperate attempt to catch up - and stay relevant – TBFWHL is taking a look back at 14
days in which Spurs stumbled into the fifth round of the FA Cup, re-entered the title race after a
brief remission and brought in a couple of battle-hardened veterans at the expense of a cult hero.

Chelsea v Manchester United: A Battle Of Widths - originally posted on Soccerlens.com
According to Castrol EDGE Performance analysis, both Manchester United and
Chelsea's wingers have been key to both club's positive play this season, with Antonio Valencia,
Nani, Juan Mata and Daniel Sturridge all enjoying impressive campaigns.

With six days since the last match, there seems little need for drastic changes from the side which
beat Wolves three-nil.
THFC1882 presents guest writer Kenny Palmer's report of Tottenham Hotspur
versus Wigan:
A man of the match performance by Gareth Bale against obliging opponents Wigan helped reignite
Spurs title challenge, as they now sit just five points behind the Manchester clubs following the
leaders City's defeat to Everton.
1. There's not too many Manchester United fans moaning this morning that Darron Gibson is a
one-trick pony who only hits piledrivers from the edge of the box. 2. Manchester City goalkeeper
Joe Hart didn't realise that having a man on the post was an occupational hazard rather than a
tactical decision at Goodison Park.
While the emerging transfer stories dominate the headlines there was the small matter of a 3-1
win over a poor Wigan side last night. No prizes for guessing the man of the match although Luka
Modric would have run two goal Gareth Bale close with some intricate passing and a stunning goal of
his own.

Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 Wigan Athletic Premier League 31st January 2012
Welsh wing-wizard Gareth Bale was once again Tottenham's star performer as the north Londoners
got their title tilt back on track at White Hart Lane in front of Harry Redknapp, who was back in
the dug-out to watch his charges win.

THFC1882 welcomes back guest writer Kenny Palmer with a preview of Tottenham
Hotspur versus Wigan.
A week is a long time in football, as Spurs two contrasting performances highlighted. Heroic in
defeat against Manchester City earning plaudits for the character they showed in coming back from
2-0 down to level the scores before losing to an injury time penalty.
Hertfordshire Fire Service MuseumAdabeyor was disappointed to find we were going to play a football
match and not to visit this must see Watford feature. The JimmyG2 Column I know the Watford Civic
and Preservation Society will disagree but Watford was more than just horrible and disgraceful, it
was horrible disgraceful.
Most Spurs fans will be grateful for an early weekend kick off as a chance to get back to the
football after a mixed week at the club. Watford will host us in our fourth round FA Cup tie and
one player almost certain to feature is the versatile Jake Livermore.
Jake has appeared regularly in the cup competitions, even filling in at right back against
Cheltenham and has therefore underlined his potential to the club in more than one area of the
pitch.
I thought we might all need a little cheering up after the result against Citeh, so courtesy of
giftscardspresents.com, I bring you a t-shirt giveaway. Featuring the brilliant and original Spurs
caricatures by James Husbands, to win your choice of t-shirt (pick from Ardilies, MacKay, Greaves,
Parker, Bale, Hoddle, Modric, Rafa VDV and Harry & Wenger.
Many are labelling this weekend's game as a grudge match with Spurs seeking revenge for the
beating they received at White Hart Lane earlier in the season. According to a recent poll by Sky
Sports, Spurs are also the favourites to win the league, no doubt partly due to the new-found
hatred that City has acquired.
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Luka Modric firmly believes that his side can win away to league
leaders Manchester City this Sunday despite the hosts having a perfect record at the Eastlands this
season.
Modric, who endured a shaky start to the campaign due to being distracted by a potential move to
Chelsea, has rediscovered his form of late and after scoring in the Spurs' 1-1 draw against Wolves,
he is approaching the clash with City with a strong mindset.
The last couple of seasons, seeing our midfield overrun, Wenger changed from 4-4-2 to 4-3-3.
This added more players in central midfield where too often we had lost vital games, but the
flip-side meant that the striker was isolated.
For 4-3-3 to work you need at least one of your three central midfielders to get into areas to
support the striker.
So that's the title challenge put to bed for another year- I must say it was terrific fun while
it lasted. Barely had I got the blue and white bunting down from the loft after our win against
Everton, was I then tossing it into the fire with all my tax returns again on Saturday evening.
Easy come, easy go.
('Dances with Wolves' dances with Wolves)We could have danced all night and still not scored the
winner against Wolves The JimmyG2 Column In this Bumper Edition a legend resurfaces; Wolves
recaptured; Man City fail to impress; transfer window ignored and all, like the National Health
Service, free at the point of delivery and we're still six points clear in third.
After enjoying a great run of results against Manchester City in recent years, the last two
league games haven't exactly gone our way and although Sunday's opponents have struggled a little
in recent weeks, the Etihad will be a tough place to go and get a result.
There is a great belief in this current Spurs side however and Luka Modric is one player who is
targeting an upset this time around.
As expected Gary Cahill has completed his £7 million move to Chelsea from Bolton Wanderers,
apparently being given a contract worth £23 million.
In another quite interesting piece of speculation, Tottenham Manager Harry Redknapp has denied that
the club are willing to swap Luka Modric for Fernando Torres at Chelsea.

Disappointing. A 2nd half goal is needed by a dominate Spurs team to draw Wolves, at home, despite
holding a 2/3 time of possession and a 26 to 5 shot advantage. Modric and Fletcher with the

Any hopes we had of tiptoeing under the radar were swiftly punted into the Thames on Wednesday
evening after every man and his lame dog in the days following declared Tottenham of Hotspur as
genuine title contenders™. Alan Hansen, David Platt, S'ralex- even our own
Heemskerk Howitzer, Rafael Van der Vaart, has pitched his tent in the side of ‘why the heck
not'.
Like the child whose parents have surreptitiously removed their much-loved comfort blanket in
the night, we woke this morning missing the precious consolation of a game in hand, and soon
discovered that we can manage perfectly well without it. For some it provided a welcome safety net,
for others the promise of future delights.
Tottenham Hotspur tonight moved level on points with second placed Manchester United after a
performance of patience and high quality.
Everton turned up at The Lane as many teams now do, to sit deep and try and frustrate Spurs.
It's to the credit of Harry Redknapp and his team that they didn't get frustrated and saw the
opposition off to seal the points.

First Paul Scholes and now bearded volleyball whizz, Terry Henry. Two mammoths of the game
busting open the crypts of their Premiership careers for one last undignified waltz under the
lights; with every possibility of coughing up something unsavoury into the laps of their adoring
fans and making a mess of everything that was once good.
So the Premier League season is finally here, it's Tottenham Hotspur's opening game versus
Everton..........
That's how the preview for this one should have started, but the unfortunate and unseemly
rioting of early August put paid to Spurs opening fixture. Now this is the game in hand it's vital
that Spurs get maximum points if they want to be taken seriously as title challengers.
It's January, as you might've noticed; and if you hadn't I would suggest those New Year's
resolutions about not drinking anything that really ought to be kept on a shelf in the shed aren't
going all that well. For the rest of you, you know the score. It's the beginning of the year and

hear-better-off-not-opening-any-tabloid-newspapers-or-football-websites-for-a-month-pick-any-name-out-of-a-hat.
Excuse me while I cough up an organ, momentarily- I've just made the dreadful mistake of going
on a post-New Year jog in weather I can only describe as ‘a bit blustery'. If I don't crumple
onto the keyboard before the day's out it'll be a minor
miracleeeeeeeeertttttttttttttyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyhjjj.
Tottenham Hotspurs ability to stay close with the two Manchester teams, especially with the
Lilywhites' latest victory over West Bromwhich Albiom, which continue to lift Spurs confidence in
challenging for the title.
The London club's winning goal scorer against West Brom, Jermaine Defoe, revealed that his team
will continue to provide pressure towards Man City along with Man United, who are currently ahead
of Harry Redknapp teams in the table.
It's January 2022. The world has changed massively over the last decade but one thing never
alters A Question of Sport is still going, although this once proud flagship of BBC peak-time is
now on BBC3 at 2.30 am. Sue Barker still presides over proceedings. Like Miss Haversham, she clings
to the trappings of faded grandeur, her immaculate twin-set grimy and worn on the seams, her hair
as immovable as always but clouds of dust fly up into the studio lights as she asks the next
question.
