US MNT thoughts

Footie in the USA 28 August @ 08:24 PM EST
After what was a very successful summer, the MNT is back for two important WCQ. I wanted to talk about the starting XI I would like to see for the qualifiers. It features Tim Howard in goal, a standout for Everton and the USMNT alike for some time now. Howard is a legend, and has to be one of the top 5 keepers in the world, his selection is a no-doubter. Wednesday Galaxy Gameday

100 Percent Soccer 19 August @ 11:29 AM EST

The 7-4-10 Galaxy play the 9-4-8 Fire in Chicago live on ESPN2 at 6 p.m.

A Galaxy win would vault them over recent conquerors the Sounders for second place in the Western Conference; a Fire victory would see them pull within a point of Eastern Conference leaders Columbus (who incidentally beat the Puerto Rican Islanders 2-0 in the CONCACAF Champions League last night, winning on a goal by Rolling Hills Estates' Robbie Rogers).

Does Bob Bradley realize there’s an attacking third?

US Soccer by the Numbers 13 August @ 01:19 AM EST

I'll start with the teaser. Given the way the U.S. has played the past couple months, can someone please check Bob Bradley's clipboard and make sure that it contains all three thirds?

And can U.S. Soccer quit trying to divert our attention with a slicker home page at the cost of almost all of its statistics (current and historic)?

more to life than winning

This is American Soccer 13 August @ 12:24 AM EST

Four days in Mexico City and nothing to complain about. Well, there is that one thing. And as a new friend told me after the US MNT lost 2-1 to Mexico at Azteca, these photos would look a lot better if we won...

But as should have been obvious in the previous post, there is more to life than winning.

Coming Up Trumps With the USMNT

The Offside Rules 06 August @ 12:59 PM EST
ESPN's Wayne Dreys has spent the summer embedded with Bob Bradley's boys and has come back with what for my money is one of the most forward-thinking chronicles of American soccer in a minute. Packaging both the written word and an excellent multi-media gallery into an attractive, detailed chronology, it's an intimate peek into all of this summer's card-sharkin' and ass-kickin' by the U. U.S. MNT Blog 31 July @ 09:57 AM EST
U.S. MNT forward Kenny Cooper has signed for 1860 Munich and is set to undergo a medical with the 2.Bundesliga club. Cooper, who was recently named to the CONCACAF Gold Cup all-tournament team, scored 40 goals in 93 appearances for FC Dallas since joining them in 2005. 1860 Munich has some history with American internationals, having had World Cup veterans Gergg Berhalter and Josh Wolff on their books as recently as a few years ago. Benny Nets Game Winner for Aarhus

Benny Feilhaber's first goal as professional - really - was the game winner in Aarhus' 3-2 victory at Randers yesterday. Feilhaber also had an assist in the game to earn Man of the Match honors in Aarhus' second game of the season. The U.S. MNT midfielder also had an assist in the team's opening game last week. Clarence Goodson and the Saga of the Missing Jersey

U.S. MNT Blog 25 July @ 12:56 PM EST
The jersey-swapping tradition is great times. Every once in awhile, however, a player wants to keep his or her own jersey. There's no shame in that. Sometimes you want to rock your own kit instead of that Messi jersey you traded for, only to find out it was too small anyways.
One of those times came Thursday. Click to continue reading...

Lost in the whirlwind tour of South Africa and the Confederations Cup, which brought outlets from Harper's to Deadspin to what seemed like every newspaper in the country out for a week-long soccer columning festival, was the demise of Brad Friedel's once heralded (here at least) soccer academy in Ohio.

Can we just remove that interim tag?

The Footie Fool 08 July @ 01:35 AM EST

For the past few days I have had that damn phrase "what if" running thru my head. What if Stephen Hart kept the reins after the 2007 Gold Cup? What if that whole Dale Mitchell thing was just a bad dream?

I cannot see how the CSA can deny the man the top job. With Canada's 1-0 win over El Salvador tonight, Hart has strung together 4 wins for the nats.

I have to see it as a positive for the maturation of the game in this country that we are now involved in conversations that the rest of the world has been having for generations - club or country?

The flash point today (to bring you up to speed in case you haven't heard) is the now confirmed fact that TFC has made a significant offer to our favorite midfielder Julian de Guzman.
