Evening Links and Thoughts: TOA, Crew, and more

WVHooligan 10 November @ 07:54 PM EST

Today has been a day to say the very least. The news from the TOA group that they are forming their own league certainly took over a lot of folks reading and writing today. I know it did for me as I am still going to be talking about it tonight and maybe more for the coming days. I have some more thoughts about it as well as some other items to discuss.

Vancouver Using Two Stadiums In 2011?

WVHooligan 29 October @ 01:51 PM EST

The old Empire Stadium in Vancouver.

Here's some interesting news about Vancouver's expansion bid that most may not know of yet. They will have to play in two different stadiums in their first year in Major League Soccer in 2011. The Vancouver Sun is reporting today that due to the renovations to BC Place the expansion Whitecaps (or whatever they will be called) will also play an unknown number of home games at a temporary facility on the old Empire Stadium.

Vancouver, Montreal Out Of USL?

WVHooligan 28 October @ 02:37 PM EST

This whole USL-TOA situation continues to take a turn for the worse. Today reports out of the Great White North say that both 2009 USL finalists Montreal Impact and the Vancouver Whitecaps will not be coming back to the USL in 2010.

In a radio interview in Montreal, Alex Papadakis confirmed that neither of the Canadian based clubs would be part of the USL for the 2010 season after the two sides failed to reach an agreement for continuing play next season and that the TOA was ready to move in another direction.

Evening Links and Thoughts: Vancouver, Best XI, and KC

WVHooligan 29 September @ 06:32 PM EST

First of all, let me say sorry for the lack of updates this week. I've gone into full site design mode here for this place and for another couple project that I am working on for other folks.

And on that note I will also be heading out of town early this weekend for a long weekend in Austin for the Austin City Limits music festival.

Evening Links and Thoughts: MVP Race and More

WVHooligan 27 August @ 06:38 PM EST

We've had a full day of interesting news with the UEFA Champions League draw, the US Men's National team roster announcement that took four hours to do, and random news here and there. Time now to close down the day with some links and thoughts on what's going on.

I wanted to get into some MVP race discussion.

Vancouver Expansion In Trouble?

WVHooligan 26 August @ 01:21 PM EST

We've been talking long and hard about Portland's troubles with their stadium but now it looks like Vancouver could be joining the mix? While both cities were awarded expansion bids it went with certain stadium situations that the league agreed on. Now Portland seems to have taken care of their issues but now Vancouver could be headed down a tough road of stadium fun.
