Major League Soccer announced the full 18 team protected list prior to the November 23 expansion draft, listing players exempt from selection during the festivities. The Montreal Impact will then have the option to select 10 players from the available pool to put on their roster for the 2012 MLS season, which I'll talk about in my next entry.

The second Portand Timbers community tour, sponsored in conjunction with founding partner Papa Murphy's, gave fans another look at the progress of stadium construction. Unlike the last tour, there was a walking portion to the new locker room that allowed everyone the chance to see where the players will gather game day to prepare for battle.

The Portland Timbers roster grew by two players on January 26, adding a defender and goalkeeper from their 2010 USL roster. Defender Steve Purdy and goalkeeper Adin Brown were invitees to training camp, and did enough to secure roster spots on the team's MLS first team roster. Meanwhile, the Timbers unveiled plans for a training facility in Beaverton, being built with assistance from the Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation District and adidas America.
