Toronto FC appears determined to fix its defensive problems, and it has turned to an Ecuadorian
international to help it do so.
On the day it signed Richard Eckersley to a permanent deal, Toronto announced it acquired
defender Geovanny Caicedo. The 30-year-old, who has earned eight caps for Ecuador since making his
debut in 2009, last played for LDU Quito.
Well, this probably isn't an objective statement, but the Chicago Fire really have started off
2012 well...just in the same way that Quaker Oats breakfast products are a great way to start the
day!
Sorry, I couldn't resist.
In all seriousness though, I can't remember a sponsorship providing such a boost to a club in
general and to a fan base in particular.

The Chicago Fire will swap the crispy, cold ways of Chicago for the sunny rays of Ave Maria as
they travel to Florida to officially kick off the preseason camp for their 15th season in Major
League Soccer.
D.C. United has used the number seven overall selection in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft to select Nick
DeLeon a midfielder out of Louisville.
DeLeon will look to join forces with the rest of the young United squad and hopefully contribute
quickly as the Red and Black are looking to return to the MLS playoffs this season.
I'm not gonna lie, my motivation is that I have spent much of the day watching the last day of
the professional tackle-football season and watching playoff scenarios and seedings fall into
place. It all gets me thinking about how the MLS is going to work going forward.
Yeah, okay, that's a reach, but bear with me.
The Columbus Crew were certainly a surprise team last season. After cutting ties with a number of
veterans and going with a roster that looked lacking on almost every part of the pitch, head coach
Robert Warzycha coaxed a great ...

On Monday we held a the last live Q&A on the Brotherly Game for the 2011 year. Some of the
formatting got screwed up by the conversion to SBN. Here's the transcript:
Hello everyone! Welcome to the Brotherly Game's last live Q&A of the 2011 year. Ask your
questions as we head even closer to the 2012 MLS season.
Solér Speaks, FinallySince the New York Red Bulls were knocked out of the MLS playoffs by
the Los Angeles Galaxy back in November, almost all of the news coming out of Harrison has been
about players departing. First a large chunk of the reserve team was let go, then the club cut
loose a group of veterans that included Chris Albright, Bouna Coundoul and Carlos Mendes in the
re-entry draft.
MLS Cup was this past Sunday, November 20, 2011. This post will describe how we used The
Grid to help organize our MLS Cup social media plan. My goal in sharing this is to paint a
picture and share a tool that I find effective, rather than delve into details about the campaign,
so this is very top-level.

A
Beckham, no surprise, leads the list...
With the end of the MLS playoffs and the beginning of the January transfer window upon us sooner
than we realize, this seems as good a time as any to put together a list of current MLS players I
think could play, and even flourish, with a move to Serie A.
Noted American philosopher and novelist Ayn Rand has graciously cleared her hectic social
schedule to answer a few questions about the MLS cup, David Beckham, and also her philosophy of
"objectivism." Please note that while I am a fan of MLS and respect Mr. Beckham's sporting
endeavors, I do not intend for this post to serve as an implicit or explicit endorsement of Ayn
Rand's philosophy.

The greater Kansas City area is fortunate to have 3 different teams providing year-round
professional soccer in the metropolitan area. The Kansas City Wizards were a founding member of
Major League Soccer (MLS) and won the 2000 MLS Cup. Now known as Sporting Kansas City, the team has
advanced to the 2011 MLS playoffs.

This is it folks! All the drama and tears and cheers have led us to the end of MLS playoffs. Most
fans are left rueing squandered chances, bad decisions, and a lack of that intangible but often
referenced "heart", but a few lucky fans get to experience the true excitement of their team in a
MLS Cup. It's something you can only really feel when your team could win it all.
Former Galaxy greats Cobi Jones and Chris Klein marked the installation of two Starlight
Children's Foundation FunCenters at Children's Hospital Los Angeles Wednesday ahead of MLS Cup.
More than 7,000 FunCenters, which include a TV, DVD player and video game system, have been
installed nationwide (Photo courtesy MLS).
James Grossi gets us back into the swing of things by rewinding and pressing play on
what happened in this year's MLS playoffs and the lead-up.
The first twelve matches of the 2011 MLS playoffs have been played; one remains to determine who
will take the honours as Champions.
The US will be joined in their third round CONCACAF qualifying group by Guatemala, Jamaica and
Antigua & Barbuda. Oh thank goodness. I was worried I'd never see Carlos Ruiz again! The
round-robin system means the US plays home-and-homes with each team between June 1 and
October 16 2012.
The MLS Board of Governors are ready to address playoff shortcomings again.
And so it begins. With Gavin Wilkinson flying all over the world and John Spencer herding in a
new set of trialists I think it's safe to say, at this point, the Timbers office is 100% focused on
2012. Not that I would have expected anything else, mind you.
First up it looks like the Timbers will host tryouts, once again, in January.
This week Kirsten, Rachna and Shana discuss the MLS playoffs and the final match-up between
Houston and LA, without disparaging a certain team based in our nation's capitol. The girls also
discuss the upcoming U-20/23 camp in Germany and awesomely-named new players that were called up.
Some psychic powers are mentioned with regard to the USWNT friendly in Phoenix, and the girls let
out all their the USMNT friendly roster.

The Tim Ream buzz in England continues to spread throughout the Premier League.
After reports surfaced that Arsenal had a summer bid for the New York Red Bulls centerback
rejected and was scouting Ream during the MLS playoffs comes word that West Brom has invited Ream
for a trial and is reportedly into offering a loan to the 24-year-old defender.
There's only one big game left on the domestic calendar and two friendlies scheduled on the
international front as we head towards winter. This month''s State of the States focuses on the MLS
playoffs, the dampening of Klinsmania, and the coming expansion of the US top flight.
MLS Playoffs - The final is set.

news surrounding Timbers coach John Spencer, and more efforts to land a USL team in Eugene, Oregon.

CARSON, Calif.-- The last time Real Salt Lake and the Galaxy competed for a trophy, it was the
2009 MLS Cup FInal and RSL took the championship. History did not repeat itself on Sunday as this
time they lost to the Galaxy on Sunday in a Western Conference final filled with missed
opportunities.

As many of you, if not all, will have heard, Steve Nicol and the New England Revolution parted ways
at the end of October, two years since the Revolution's last appearance in the MLS Playoffs.
Jonathan Kraft said in a statement "We all agreed a change of direction was needed to reverse the
trend of the past couple of years.
Red Bulls Fans May Have a Euro 2012 Rooting Interest After AllThe 2011 MLS Cup final
participants are now set following yesterday's conference finals, and for the first time in a
number of years none of the lowest playoff seeds made it through to the championship. Whether
that's the result of a slightly more equitable playoff format that punished poor regular season
performance is anyone's guess.

The Los Angeles Galaxy continued their methodical push to the MLS Cup as they advanced to the
league championship with a 3-1 victory over Real Salt Lake at the Home Depot Center.
The victory put the Galaxy in their second final in three years as they will take on the Houston
Dynamo on their home soil on November 20th.
The two strongest teams in MLS over the past three seasons square off tonight for a chance to play
in the 2011 MLS Cup Final as the Los Angeles Galaxy take on Real Salt Lake at Home Depot Center
(9pm, ESPN).
The Galaxy come in as Supporters Shields winners and the favorites against an RSL side that
struggled late in the regular season, but showed against Seattle in the playoffs that they were
back to the form that helped them reach the CONCACAF Champions League Final last spring.

When Brad Davis was carried off the field late in the first half of Sunday's Eastern Conference
Final, it felt like the Houston Dynamo's chances of going to the MLS Cup Final were being carried
off with him.
The Dynamo didn't see it that way, and instead of folding without their team MVP (and arguably
the MLS MVP), Houston stood strong defensively and capitalized on two second-half chances to knock
off Sporting Kansas City.
Sporting Kansas City and the Houston Dynamo will be playing for the first place in the 2011 MLS Cup
Final today as they square off at LiveStrong Sporting Park in the Eastern Conference Final (5:30pm,
Fox Soccer Channel).
Sporting KC comes in as the No. 1 seed and will look to continue their stellar home form against
a tough Houston side that has rattled off an eight-match unbeaten streak since dropping a 3-0
decision in their last visit to face Sporting KC.

Robbie Keane seems healthy and ready to contribute for the Los Angeles Galaxy's run to MLS Cup.
Now all he needs to do is find the back of the net.
Keane was appearing in just his second match since an adductor strain cost him the last three
weeks of the season as well as a number of important matches for club and country.

Sporting Kansas City's attack has proven to be just fine without Designated Player Omar Bravo,
and the club may have to maintain its level of play without him for Sunday's MLS Eastern Conference
final against the Houston Dynamo.

CARSON, Calif. – The Western Conference final second leg between the Los Angeles Galaxy and
New York Red Bulls certainly lived up to its much-anticipated hype. Aggression was high, tempers
flared and drama unfolded after a quick start by the Red Bulls, but in the end, New York took the
long plane ride home broken and defeated.

By Sunday's end, the MLS playoff field will be narrowed down to two clubs.
No wild card teams remain in the postseason picture after the overall top seed Los Angeles
Galaxy disposed of the New York Red Bulls Thursday night.
This photo of Aurelien Collin kind of gives away the winner of Wednesday's 2nd leg tie between
Sporting Kansas City and the Colorado Rapids, but we're fine with it.
Yes, he and his Sporting KC team-mates are moving on in the MLS Playoffs. They'll play the first
of two games on Sunday, squaring off against a 'scrappy' Houston Dynamo side that ended the Farfan
twins/Philadelphia Union's dreams of hitting it big time* 3-1 on aggregate.
Jacob and I hatched a scheme for an intermittent Friday back-and-forth questionnaire on pressing
matters. With MLS playoffs roaring to a boil, we're putting the league's happenings on the block
today. For our inaugural Friday Five, we bring you our conference final edition. Marquez lovers,
progress no further.
