Fire 0, Wizards 0: A Supporter's View

0

Ninety minutes, Triple-digit temperatures and no goals.

A scoreless draw had to be expected when the Wizards and Fire took the field on Sunday. Aside from the sweltering heat, neither team was going to be taking many chances in this key Eastern Conference clash. The tie leaves Chicago chasing New England and Columbus atop the East and leaves KC trailing the playoff pack.

Crew 2, Wizards 2 (A Supporter's View)

Guillermo Barros Schelotto won't be in the MLS All-Star game later this week and last Thursday he provided a strong case for being the worst snub in the league. The Argentine star dazzled the crowd at Crew Stadium, helping Columbus fight back from 2-0 down to take a 3-2 lead against the Wizards.

Wizards 2, Real Salt Lake 1 (A Supporter's View)

The kid deserved better.

Tony Beltran is a rookie having himself a pretty good first season in MLS but he had to endure a fate that so many defenders have to endure, the cursed game-losing own goal.

Beltran's mistake snapped Real Salt Lake's record-setting unbeaten streak at five games while also giving new life to a Wizards team desperate for a win after going more than two months without one.

Wizards welcome back Josh Wolff

The Kansas City Wizards may have found the cure for their terrible offense, or at least they hope so.

The Wizards have signed Josh Wolff, who makes his return to MLS after spending two seasons with German club 1860 Munich.

Toronto FC 0, Wizards 0: A Supporter's View

Toronto FC still hasn't lost at home, still hasn't sent the packed house at BMO Field home with heads hung low, but last weekend they didn't send their fans home happy either. A scoreless draw against struggling Kansas City felt a bit more like a loss than a win for a team battling to get to the top of the Eastern Conference.

Real Salt Lake 0, Wizards 0: A Supporter's View

There are exciting 0-0 ties, like USA-Argentina, and then there are scoreless draws like Real Salt Lake-Kansas City Wizards.

It wasn't pretty, and fans probably didn't leave Rice-Eccles excited about a match they'll remember for a long time, but the result was a fair one for two teams struggling to find consistency and keep pace with the league's better teams.

Red Bulls 1, Wizards 1: A Supporter's View

1

The Kansas City Wizards must hate coming to Giants Stadium. There isn't a player on the current Wizards who has experienced winning at Giants Stadium while with Kansas City. The streak goes back to 2000, a stretch of 11 matches at Giants Stadium without a win.

That streak was pushed to 12 courtesy of a stunning late equalizer from rookie Danleigh Borman, whose stumbling goal tumble is looking less absurd and more like the dance of a kid with real potential.

Crew 2, Wizards 1: A Supporter's View

Who can stop the Columbus Crew? The Kansas City Wizards couldn't, becoming the latest victim of Sigi Schmid's Crew express, which has rattled off four straight wins and established Columbus as the top team in MLS.

Yes, that still sounds strange to say but few signs point to it being a fluke.

Toronto FC 2, Wizards 0: A Supporter's View

With one beautiful free kick goal, Amado Guevara helped secure the three points for Toronto FC and helped TFC extend its winning streak to three matches.

Is this really the same team that started the season so poorly? The easy answer is no, not with newcomers Guevara, Laurent Robert and Rohan Ricketts turning the Toronto midfield into one of the best in MLS.

Wizards 1, Fire 0: A Supporter's View

2

The Chicago Fire had the momentum heading into Sunday's showdown with Kansas City Wizards, but that momentum disappeared with an early Wizards goal and with every missed chance the Fire botched.

Fire fans will curse Chad Barrett and Jon Busch, while Wizards fans will thank Jack Jewsbury and Kevin Hartman.

A Supporter's View: Kansas City Wizards

1

On a cold night in Kansas, the Kansas City Wizards suffered through a scoreless draw against the Houston Dynamo that probably didn't do much to warm up the fewer than 10,000 fans in attendance.

One point from two home games last week was enough to put a damper on the talk of the Wizards being this year's surprise MLS team (Colorado has stolen that moniker for now), but the Wizards did show some improvements defensively and some promise that the quick start to the season wasn't a mirage.

Houston Dynamo at Kansas City Wizards: Your Running Commentary

0

The Kansas City Wizards will be looking to keep Houston's early-season struggles going while the Dynamo will try to post its first win of the season without several key players.

With Pat Onstad, Eddie Robinson and Stuart Holden all doubts, Houston will need a special effort to hand the Wizards a second-straight defeat.

SBI Fan's Corner: The Kansas City Wizards

0

It's a good time to be Kansas City Wizards fan. The Wizards are 2-0, a stadium project is on the way, the team's new ownership group is spending money (exhibit A: Claudio Lopez) and even the team's new temporary home is drawing rave reviews among KC fans for the atmosphere.

So pardon Wizards fans for gloating a bit.

Colorado Rapids at Kansas City Wizards: Your Running Commentary

1

The battle of the MLS unbeatens will take place today in Kansas City, Kansas. Okay, so maybe that's a little bit of hyperbole, but there is no mistaking that both the Kansas City Wizards and Colorado Rapids enjoyed dream starts to their seasons last week.

Both teams scored shutout victories at home and now the Wizards play host to the Rapids with a chance to jump out in front of the pack in the Eastern Conference.

My take on the Kansas City Wizards

0

For those of you who have yet to see it, My Friday story for ESPN.com this week was on the Kansas City Wizards and the turnaround they have enjoyed under new coach Curt Onalfo. As you may know from reading SBI, I have pegged the Wizards to be this season's surprise team and after talking to Onalfo and Jimmy Conrad, and seeing them play, I'm even more confident about that call.

Chance Myers to be the No. 1 pick

1

The Kansas City Wizards are set to make UCLA defender Chance Myers the first pick in the 2008 MLS Draft, sources have told Soccer By Ives.

Myers is expected to slide in and start in the left back spot vacated by Jose Burciaga Jr, who was traded to the Colorado Rapids.

Myers' selection marks the second time in three years that a UCLA defender is taken with the first pick in the MLS Draft.
