David Beckham is staying in LA for two more years, after that it could be owning a MLS team.

This is something we've been hearing since 2007. David Beckham has a clause in his contract with
Major League Soccer that once he retires, he can buy a MLS franchise.
That much was true with his five-year deal in MLS and it is true once again with his new
two-year deal.
Nothing against Sacramento, California, I'm sure it is a lovely town in it's own rights but I'll
pass on it as a possible MLS destination. Maybe if all the good potential MLS cities had clubs
already and the league was thinking of expanding because someone had loads of money and a stadium
already built there then I would listen.

I think it is fair to say by now that Orlando is in the mix for the MLS expansion race. Maybe
not club number 20 but certainly number 21, whenever that may be. Major League Soccer is likely
hoping to use other cities like Orlando - to help push the bid for a second New York club in the
league.
The Montreal Impact didn't waste any time in making a statement in the MLS Expansion Draft.
Despite threats that Brian Ching would retire if selected, the Impact made the Houston Dynamo
forward and captain the first overall pick in Wednesday's draft. In addition to Ching, the Impact
pounced on the chance to grab former Chivas USA and U.
Wednesday's MLS Expansion Draft provides the Montreal Impact a chance to build the foundation
for its MLS roster, and the club will have some decisions to make based on how much it wants to
spend and which direction it wants to go off the bat.
Designated Players Julian de Guzman, Andres Mendoza, Mustapha Jarju, Branko Boskovic, Frank
Rost, Milton Caraglio, Omar Bravo and Jeferson are all free for the taking (although Rost is likely
to return to Germany after a few-month stay with New York), giving the Impact the option to make a
major investment immediately.
Undoubtedly, expansion is an exciting time for MLS fans, as it allows them to see and experience a
"new" market, a new potential rival, and the possibility of the next great soccer city. With the
success of recent expansion clubs ...

As D.C. United continues its quest to find a new stadium location, MLS continues its exploration
into whether Baltimore is a viable market for league expansion.
The league sent out a survey to fans in the Baltimore area in an effort to gauge interest in an
MLS franchise in the city.

The writing was possibly too much on the wall for this not to happen. We heard the whispers for
a little while that something could be going wrong in the New York Cosmos to MLS expansion camp.
With the news the other day that Cosmos chairman and CEO Paul Kemsley resigned, you just knew
something else was going on.
We've talked a lot on here about the 20th Major League Soccer franchise being in New York City.
The league has stated on several occasions that they want the club in the Big Apple. But there are
a couple cities around the country that are hoping to cash in on the 20th franchise and jump in
ahead of a potential New York club.

HARRISON, N.J. -- MLS Commissioner Don Garber held an informal press conference at halftime of
the U.S. men's national team friendly with Ecuador Tuesday night, and he discussed a bevy of
topics, including MLS scheduling and expansion.
The first thing Garber touched on were the comments made recently by U.
We've heard about the possibility of a Major League Soccer team in Detroit for some time now.
We've even heard that the folks who bought the Silverdome have already applied for an expansion
team. Now today we're finally seeing what their wild renovation plans may actually look like.
So, uh, yeah.
Have to say this is the first I've heard of the league wanting to announce anything on the 20th
club by the end of the year. Hopeful much on the part of the Cosmos group? Absolutely, but I still
believe this is the main group the league is looking at in New York.
MLS Commissioner Don Garber said recently in Dallas that the league has had discussions with a
several groups in New York, including the Cosmos.
It sounds like the Vegas stadium deals are getting closer to happening. Big question is, can
they line up an owner to guide a MLS team into the expansion discussion? A deal would call for the
stadium in Vegas to be done by 2014.
I saw this quote in an article on MLS expansion over at the Sporting News. Nothing really
ground-breakingly new in the piece on expansion. The same markets are mentioned but the meat is
really in this quote. Abbott says the league will likely slow down expansion after number 20,
something I've been saying on here for a couple years now.
I love how it seems that every month or two the MLS-Las Vegas stories pop up. Well here is
another one to throw on the pile. When they get a serious owner I'll actually talk about it again.
Until then, its all fun talk. (note, if you haven't figured it out click the post title to see the
link)
Let's go ahead and file this under the "duh" section. Ziggy Wilf, the owner of the NFL's
Minnesota Vikings is hoping his new stadium for the Vikes will have a "moveable" roof on it. Reason
being, he wants a MLS club.
Wilf came to the realization that getting a MLS club would add additional revenue to his pockets
and make a new stadium for Minneapolis worthwhile.

Just a little heads up about a story I just posted over at SBNation.com. The New York Cosmos are
apparently heading to Vegas next winter to participate in the Winter Kick.
Apparently the preseason tournament is hoping to have someone big to play the Cosmos.
Here's a little story I just posted over at SBNation.com on the New York Cosmos. They are in
discussions with Major League Soccer about possibly playing in a temporary venue for a couple
season when/if they join MLS as the 20th club in a couple years.
In a way this is the smartest move for both sides as it will allow the Cosmos to work out a deal
with the city to build a stadium.
Union
CSN is going to show the Union's match against Everton but the showdown with Real Madrid gets
the ESPN Deportes and ESPN3.
The Union's Kevin Kinkead breaks down the team's performance using MLS Chalkboards.
Mark your calendars: The Union are traveling to Harrisburg in August to face the City
Islanders!

hopes in MLS. (Getty Images)

their own) but the one place Major League Soccer would like to expand to next had a little
international game of their own last night.

A crowd of 25,000 is expected to be at the Ford Field in Detroit for the Gold Cup match between
the US and Canada tonight. While the crowd number sounds pretty good, the owners of the facility
have a bigger goal in mind from hosting this big match in the Gold Cup.
According to MLive.com, Triple Sports & Entertainment, the new owners of the Silverdome, have
plans to bring a Major League Soccer expansion team to the newly-resurrected facility.

The Montreal Impact are still months away from joining Major League Soccer but they won't go
through any crazy renaming like other clubs have done in the past. Instead, they'll refresh their
look with a new logo and new jerseys.
Both will be unveiled later this summer according to the Canadian Press.
Julio Caballero, VP of the Miami Ultras has formed a group called La Academia which is exclusively
dedicated to bringing Major League Soccer back to South Florida. They also organize MLS watch
party's and will soon lead a pilgrimage of South Florida soccer fans to invade an MLS game to
support our bid for MLS in Miami.
This past Saturday marked the return of MLS Futbolito to South Florida. This year the Miami Ultras
signed up to play in the tournament for the first time. Uncle Ed, your humble bloggererer was
signed on as the Coach. Here are my notes and comments of my debut as coach.
1.- The coach was the last to show up.
Proposed stadium site. (photo via Las Vegas Sun)
People always wonder when Las Vegas will be home to a top flight professional sport team. The
time will come before long I believe and Major League Soccer could be that first team to step foot
in the Casino capital. Reports this morning from the Las Vegas Sun say MLS commissionar Don Garber
has placed calls to lawmakers in Nevada and Las Vegas about a potential stadium site for a future
MLS team.
Area where Minnesota's current soccer team plays. They do love soccer there.
Every morning I see MLSSoccer.com's Kick Off hit my inbox and then my twitter stream. Today,
there was a little blurb about MLS Expansion so of course I was eager to check it out. It turns out
the owner of the NFL's Minnesota Vikings is planning on building a new stadium and wants to attract
a MLS team to play in it, similar to the Seattle Sounders and the New England Revolution (and
Vancouver if your counting the CFL here).
Zygi Wilf is known for being the German-born owner of the Minnesota Vikings. He could soon be
known for being an owner of an MLS team.
Wilf held a press conference on Tuesday announcing that he had reached an agreement with Ramsey
County and the city of Arden Hills for a new retractable roof stadium worth an estimated cost of $1
billion.
Our good friend and Miami Ultras member Brian Corey has started a new MLS Meetup group with the
intention of catching big MLS games and tonight happens to be one of those days as Real Salt Lake
will attempt to be the first MLS team to win a Champions League Final. Come join us at Mickey
Byrnes tonight, Wednesday at 10 PM.

As Sporting Kansas City ushers in what could be a defining era for soccer in the American
heartland this season, the club's overhaul won't stop at its polarizing re-branding or new
soccer-specific venue.
This week we start with MLS Miami expansion news as ESPN is reporting that MLS to Miami might be
closer than we thought.
Talk is heating up that Beckham will, when his contract expires after this season,
execute the clause in his contract that allows him to purchase an MLS expansion team, and that
Miami is the best bet.
Oh here we go again. Another city wanting Major League Soccer. I guess this is what happens when
the league is growing rapidly and people around the country are finally taking note. Today we hear
of another candidate city, though this one is one that has popped up before (some folks tried to
buy the Crew an bring them here).
An interesting piece was sent to me about corruption in FIFA. Yeah, that is nothing new but I
thought it was a good read. In the picture you can see FIFA President Blatter (left) sharing a
drink with alleged Russian criminal Alimzhan Tokhtakhounov (right) and Russian World Cup bid member
Viacheslav Koloskov at a Moscow nightclub in 2005.
Hola Amigos! Burrito been in the dawg house (Liter-ally) lately. Pero no problem, He back now!
It's been almost a month since MLS Commisionado El Don Garber came to South Florida to talk to
Burrito's compadres the Miami Ultras. Burrito was mad cause they no let in dawgs to Hotel pero
Burrito was able to steal pictures from Uncle Ed's cell phone and si the picture not good qualities
pero thats life.
So are the New York Cosmos not a lock anymore to become the 20th Major League Soccer team? Eh,
sorta.
MLS commissioner Don Garber said on Tuesday that the league is still talking with the Cosmos and
other ownership groups as well for a 20th team in New York. Garber said adding a second
team in New York remained a priority but he played down the much-hyped Cosmos.
The main topic of the week so far was the decision by the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) to
pull its provisional Division 2 sanctioning of the North American Soccer League (NASL).
What bothers me is that for years the USSF sat there and watched the United Soccer Leagues (USL) do
anything they wanted to soccer in this country from division 2 down.
South Florida is a magnet for Soccer news and will continue to make headlines as Major League
Soccer teams get ready for preseason training in our area.
D.C. United
The first team to pay a visit to our area will be D.C. United as they announced the club's
preseason schedule this week.
Its a slow news day around these parts for me. What can I say I really don't care to talk about
the hundreds of players rumored to come to MLS during this transfer window. Just isn't my cup of
tea at the moment.
Instead I'm hitting the way-back machine for this one as Argentine club Boca Juniors is once
again going public with their hopes and dreams of owning a MLS club one day.
Following you will find pictures and fan video taken during the meeting with MLS Commissioner Don
Garber. None of the video is professional so bear with us. the video it does give you a little
taste of what it was like to be there.
I've seen much criticism out there from fans from other cities concerning the number of fans that
showed up to the event.
