How does this look for a best XI lineup. Â This is the group that was named to the MLS best XI
for this 2009 season. Â Only a single player from the best XI will be represented in the MLS Cup
this Sunday. Â That is of course Landon Donovan US player of the decade.
Conor Casey Jeff Cunningham
Dwayne De Rosario Landon Donovan Stuart Holden Shalrie Joseph Freddie Ljungberg
Geoff Cameron Wilman Conde Chad Marshall
Zach Thornton
So what do you think, is this a good lineup?

This is one of the most bizarre things you can expect to see at a professional football match.
With Chelsea leading 1-0 against Manchester United, Salomon Kalou was getting ready to come on for
Didier Drogba in the 83rd minute of the game. However, who would have expected a Chelsea supporter
to look so calm and collected as he brushed his teeth in the crowd.

If you missed the Jimmy Conrad Show last night, Robb Heineman joined Dave Borchardt for the first
two segments with Jimmy away with the U.S. National Team. Robb and Dave discussed a wide variety of
topics, including the proposed stadium project in KCK, the potential of hosting an MLS All-Star
Game once we're in our own home and some tidbits on players such as Josh Wolff and Kei Kamara.

My old dad had a simple saying for me: "When you start something, finish it."
The Houston Dynamo could use a little bit of that right about now. Check out this little stat:
Red cards issued to Houston Dynamo in all competitions since the MLS All-Star Game: Eight
Red cards issued to Dynamo in all competitions before MLS All-Star Game: One (to Mike Chabala
against NYRB in the 93rd minute April 11)
That truly is an amazing statistic.

Background: What is Mark Dodd doing on this list? Well, on June 4, 1998, Dodd
played between the pipes for the Dallas Burn against the LA Galaxy. 90+ minutes later, Dodd had
conceded a whopping eight (yes, eight) goals, a single game MLS record that has never been
broken.

Newsworthy items have been sparse as the Dynamo take a brief but well-deserved hiatus. There was
a nice announcement that Houston's Reliant Stadium will host the 2010 MLS All Star game. This marks
the official start to the rumors of which European powerhouse will grace us with their royal
presence.

Tomorrow, Major League Soccer, the Houston Dynamo, and Lone Star Sports and Entertainment will
officially announce that the 2010 MLS All-Star Game will be held at Reliant Stadium in Houston,
Texas, not Robertson Stadium.
While Reliant Stadium, which was officially opened in 2002, is a multiple-use stadium, it is
primarily known as the home of National League Football League's Houston Texans and the Houston
Livestock Show & Rodeo.

A few Colorado fans might recognize goalkeeper Chris Sharpe, but the Rapids players certainly
did on Saturday night. With Sharpe suited up for Chivas USA at Dick's Sporting Goods Park, many of
the Rapids bumped fists or shook hands or patted him on the back as they passed the Goats'
bench.
Sharpe's rights are owned by the Rapids, and he trains with the Rapids.

My views on MLS on this website in the last week have been dissected and criticized. I think
this "summer of soccer" has yielded both good and bad for the American top flight. On the positive
side, MLS has higher attendance than football leagues in Spain, Italy, Holland and France, making
the league one of the best attended in the industrialized western world.

According to an email sent by Coach John Leamy at Missouri State, it looks like Zach Thornton's
injury during the MLS All-Star game will in fact lead to recent Missouri State graduate
Lance Parker getting his first start in a league match for his Chivas USA squad.
Coincidentally, he'll be facing Colorado which will also feature an MSU Bear between the pipes!

MLS Rumors 06 August @ 06:22 PM EST
If I said not much had changed in the Major League Soccer table in the last seven days, I'd be
doing Week 20 a terrible disservice. The action was thrilling, surprising and eventful, shaking
things up even if the shock didn't quite register in the standings.
The week got underway in nauseatingly corporate fashion on Wednesday at Rio Tinto, where the
MLS All-Star game 2009 saw Premier League side Everton go up against the league's
hottest talents.

I knew I was nervous for a reason when Dan
Kennedy had surgery and has been unable to play....cause that leaves Lance Parker as back up,,,,and
well...now Nick Green is reporting in his 100 percent soccer blog that Zach Thornton is out for 3-4
weeks after an injury suffered in the MLS all star game.

That's the word today after the club evaluated the right quad injury Zach Thornton picked up
during their starting goalkeeper's 16 minutes of action in the MLS All-Star game last week. Just
another reason to dislike the fake game.
And not a good sign for a club that was off almost three weeks and is attempting to stop a
four-game losing streak Saturday against the Colorado Rapids.

U.S. played Honduras is the semifinals and I fell asleep in about the 30th minute.

Despite the result of the match, Wednesday night's MLS All-Star Game in Sandy, Utah was a great
spectacle for the league. On display was the league's newest soccer-specific stadium, and Rio Tinto
did not disappoint. The crowd and atmosphere was wonderful, and players and coaches from both sides
were complimentary of the year-old facility just outside Salt Lake City.

A lot of folks this morning are calling for the end of the MLS All-Star game, or at least the

Daily Talking Point
There's considerable debate about the value of the MLS All-Star game going around today. A
sold-out Rio Tinto stadium in Salt Lake looked impressive last night, but the tepid match and the
penalty kicks to determine the result seemed rather pointless does anyone actually care that
Everton won?

DeRo vs Nigel Henry/ Photo by Paul Giamou
- 5.4 million homes tuned into the Univision broadcast of US-Mexico in the Gold Cup final. The
5-0 Mexican win was the Nielsen ratings winner in its time slot in many markets. The top 5 markets
in terms of ratings were:
1- Los Angeles
2- New York
3- Miami
4- Houston
5- Dallas
Considering the Mexican-American population in the New York and Miami markets is minimal,
compared to the other three top markets, the ratings there (especially in NYC which hosted the
match after all) reinforce my belief that MLS would be wise to ignore attendance and bring a second
team to New York and return to the Miami market.
