The Galaxy scored seven goals in their win at Home Depot Center, while Chivas USA managed five
goals. Both wins came over minor league opposition. More on the Galaxy game is here. Chivas USA
beat Conejo Valley-based FC Hasental 5-0 with goals coming from Michael Lahoud in the 22nd minute
Former Boston Breakers (WPS) General Manager, Andy Crossley, runs a great site called
Fun
While It Lasted where I love to go to see the great history and information he digs up
about minor league franchises that have come and gone in the American sports landscape. I
especially enjoy anytime he posts something regarding soccer teams that once played in the D.
All the news that's fit to drink.
And because you'd rather have a beer than be reading all the time... we've taken the day's top news
and given it the Reader's Digest-treatment so you can get to that post-work pint quicker.* Timothy Chandler might not be a Nat after-all.
When FC Twente played Benfica Lisbon to a 2-2 draw on Tuesday night, Tottenham manager Harry
Redknapp was in the stands to witness it. Mind you, 'Arry wasn't just out for a fun night of
European football in Enschede - he was there to take a personal look at Bryan Ruiz, Twente's Costa
Rican striker and a target for Spurs in this summer's transfer window.
Stephen Strasburg's return from Tommy John surgery began on Sunday afternoon in Hagerstown,
Maryland. That's where he made his first minor league rehab start after undergoing reconstructive
elbow surgery.
In the Class A game, Stephen Strasburg looked about as good as the Washington National could
have hoped.
*Soccer in insignificant compared to the misery inflicted by earthquakes and other natural
disasters. But the power of sport is its ability to inspire, uplift and unite as the Japanese well
know in the wake of their magnificent World Cup win. I'll have more on the tournament in Tuesday's
column.
*How much did this tournament capture the public's imagination?
Sporting KC have to get past the Richmond Kickers next Tuesday in their US Open Cup quarterfinal,
but should they get past them then KC will be hosting the semifinals. Today US Soccer announced the
potential semifinal pairings. KC will take on the winner of the Chicago Fire vs New York Red Bulls
game in Chicago next Tuesday.
For the 16th consecutive season and the second against Seattle the Galaxy are at home for
Independence Day. How many of you have attended every game?
The Galaxy boast a 10-game unbeaten streak, the Sounders have four wins in 11 days and something
has to give between two teams separated by just four points in the MLS standings who meet each
other again July 12 or 13 in the Pacific Northwest in the U.

Galaxy and the minor league LA Blues and filed this game story.
On Saturday June 4, 2011, in a homecoming of sorts, the Houston Dynamo's lack of offense resulted
in a 2-0 loss to the San Jose Earthquakes in Santa Clara, California. Steven Lenhart and Simon
Dawkins stepped up for San Jose in the absence of Chris Wondolowski, who was on national team duty,
giving the Earthquakes the win.

Proposed stadium site. (photo via Las Vegas Sun)
People always wonder when Las Vegas will be home to a top flight professional sport team. The
time will come before long I believe and Major League Soccer could be that first team to step foot
in the Casino capital. Reports this morning from the Las Vegas Sun say MLS commissionar Don Garber
has placed calls to lawmakers in Nevada and Las Vegas about a potential stadium site for a future
MLS team.

Just a few days after making the trek up to Frisco to catch FCD against Houston Baptist
University, I once again found myself on that familiar field 4, this time for a night scrimmage
that saw FCD cruise past SMU 3-1. During the Schellas Hyndman regime, SMU has become a sort of
minor league farm system for FCD recruits, so I was interested in catching this one.
This week USL PRO continued its development as a USSF minor league by releasing its playoff
schedule. Last week it had released a season schedule and division format outlining how its clubs
would compete in its first year of existence as USL PRO.
The playoffs will consist of three rounds, with the top three seeds from the American and
National Divisions and the top two seeds from the International Division making the playoffs.
*Neither the Galaxy nor MLS have responded to a report Sunday that had leading scorer Edson
Buddle rather embarrassingly snubbing a new contract with MLS for a struggling second-tier German
outfit.
It's hard to blame Buddle, who turns 30 in May, for wanting to make some serious coin if reports
of his likely paycheck are accurate.
