Fred on target for Fluminense against Palmeiras

With just four games remaining in the championship, holders São Paulo went top for the first time this season following their 1-1 draw away to Grêmio on Wednesday and Palmeiras' 1-0 defeat at Fluminense on Sunday.

Almost 67,000 turned up at the Maracanã hoping for a miracle as strugglers Fluminense took on Palmeiras.

Brasileiro: The Tournament No One Wants to Win

After the 29th round of Brasileiro, it seems no one wants to take the title home. Like in the last round, when only one club on the top won, the leaders collectively failed again. Palmeiras, Sao Paulo and Atletico-MG lost. Inter and Goias tied at home. And, in this way, Flamengo, the 6th side on the table, was the first team on the top to win.

A dejeted looking Souza and Marcos as Náutico thrash the leaders 3-0

Despite a shock 3-0 loss at strugglers Náutico, Palmeiras remain five points clear at the top of the Brasileiro with nine games to go. As usual when the Palestra Itália outfit slip up, none of their main rivals were able to take advantage as no one in the top five managed to win.

Palmeiras' Cleiton Xavier, Vagner Love and Diego Souza celebrate another win

Muricy Ramalho's Palmeiras came from behind to take all three points against Santos in the Vila Belmiro. The 3-1 win left the Palestra Itália outfit five clear at the top and even with 11 rounds to go, it's difficult to see anyone dislodging Palmeiras from their position as leaders.

Dramatic Video: Nautico 1 – 2 Sao Paulo

It was one of the most dramatic victories of this year's Brasileirao. Sao Paulo had all the reasons to see its visit to Nautico end up in a sound defeat.

1)Sao Paulo did not have keeper Rogerio Ceni and two of its main forwards;
2)Nautico had a penalty with just 4 minutes into the match;
3)Sao Paulo had 2 players ejected one in each half;
4)Nautico scored (through Bruno Mineiro) a goal early in the match.

São Paulo gift Ronaldo a goal in the Morumbi

A 2-1 victory over strugglers Atlético Paranaense plus São Paulo's and Internacional's failures to win their games has left Palmeiras in a commanding position in the Campeonato Brasileiro.

Chile international Figueroa made the best of his first start for Palmeiras scoring the Green's opener in the Palestra Itália.

Now would be the ideal time for Dopey to experiment seeing how the seleção have already qualified for the World Cup. What we don't get, however, is tio's love for Andre Santos!!!

Anyway, the squad for the remaining qualifiers against Venezuela and Bolivia has been finalised and it's nice to see Naldo and Diego Souza back again.

America-MG Wins the Third Division of Brasileirao

The traditional side of America-MG not only got promoted to second division. On the weekend, coelho (the rabbit) beat ASA at home, in front of 10 thousand cheering fans. The goal, scored by Bruno Mineiro, came only in the last minute, but the fans were already celebrating. America had won the first match was well 3-1.

Celso Roth's Atlético Mineiro were restored to the leadership of the Brasileiro after a scoreless draw away at Vitória. The result ended the Bahia side's 100% record in the Barradão.

Palmeiras had gone top on Saturday after Diego Souza's volley secured the Palestra Itália outfit a 1×0 win over Santo André.

Brazilian team, Cruzeiro, contrived to lose 1-2 at home to Argentina's Estudiantes in the second leg of the Libertadores and left the estádio Mineiro in tears. 0-0 from the first leg in Argentina, Cruzeiro were favourites to lift the trophy. Things looked on course when Henrique scored in the second-period.

Atlético Mineiro's Carlos Alberto celebrates against Santos

League leaders Atlético Mineiro had to come from behind to beat Santos 3-2 in the Vila Belmiro. And with Internacional slipping up away at Flamengo, Celso Roth's team were able to open up a three point gap at the top.

Neymar scored his first goal in the Brasileiro for Santos on the stroke of half-time.
