Liverpool's pre-season has not gone swimmingly. They might have wished Emmanuel Eboue had signed
earlier with the Turkish club for any relief because they were not getting any in this match.
The squad had none of the stars in Luis Suarez, Steven Gerrard, Raul Meirelles, Pepe Reina,
Lucas Leiva, Martin Skrtel, or even new signings Charlie Adam, Jordan Henderson and Stewart
Downing.
An understrength Liverpool side lost 3-0 to Galatasaray in Istanbul, their second successive
pre-season defeat by that scoreline.
Having been defeated at Hull on Saturday, manager Kenny Dalglish sent out a virtual reserve side in
the first half at the Turk Telekom Arena, with only Andy Carroll considered a genuine first-team
starter.
Kenny Dalglish acknowledged his disappointment at seeing Liverpool go down to a 3-0 friendly defeat
to Galatasaray on Thursday, but believes the game can stand his squad in good stead for the season
ahead.
Two first-half goals from former Anfield forward Milan Baros and a stunning volley from Johan
Elmander condemned the Reds to defeat in Istanbul.

Milan Baros admitted he was delighted to net a brace for Galatasaray during Liverpool's 3-0
defeat in Istanbul on Thursday night but insisted the Reds will always retain a special place in

So much for the romantic return to Istanbul. A questionable starting eleven and even worse
first-half performance, woeful defending, and non-existant attack conspired to make for one of the
most insufferable forty-five minutes of Liverpool football I've witnessed. The curious selection
and impotent display were worrying, and while it got better as the personnel and formation righted
themselves a bit in the second half, we're still left with another ineffective display and more
time to wait for something that actually means something.
