A little over two weeks ago, the transfer window slammed shut, leaving many Boro fans
disillusioned. We had not brought in any big names. We had not brought in the fabled target man we
so desired. We had not brought in.... anyone. Hopes of keeping Tuncay and Robert Huth, and seeing
them outclass the Championship until January, vanished in an instant.

Jermain Defoe has had a fantastic start to the new season, with goals for England and Spurs;
including his 50th for the club in the 2-1 win at West Ham. His hat trick and all round performance
against Hull City was clearly his best performance in a Spurs shirt in either spell. When he
rejoined Spurs in January this year, he was welcomed back with open arms as a disastrous season
began to show the green shoots of recovery under Harry Redknapp.

It is clear that the decision to sell Robert Huth and Tuncay to Stoke has split the Boro fans
straight down the middle. Some are incandescent with rage at the thought of the two lining up for
Stoke and see it as a betrayal by the club whilst others, myself included, are disappointed that
the two have gone but understand the reasoning behind it.

So, pre-season has come to a close, and the season starts in less than a week. The obvious
question is 'are we ready?'
Gareth Southgate admitted last week that failing to get promoted at the first attempt would
probably cost him his job. In truth, most Boro fans will probably start calling for his head if we
fail to start the season with a bang.

Has Mido Joined Liverpool?
"Egypt striker Mido is set to leave Middlesbrough after manager Gareth Southgate accepted an
undisclosed offer for him from an unnamed club." BBC
Right. Nowhere on the world wide web, does it state that Mido has joined Liverpool.

Possibly the best attribute a player in your team can have is to be a penalty taker. But until the
season is underway, it can also be one of the hardest things to tie down. Preseason games are
indicators only, and the presence or absence of something happening in a preseason game does not
indicate we should take that as a given either.

Boro manager Gareth Southgate appears confident that deals will be reached that see both Mido
and Tuncay Sanli follow Stewy Downing out of the Middlesbrough exit door. Neither player travelled
with the squad to Scotland for Boro's 5-0 win over Dumbarton.

Middlesbrough romped to a 5-0 victory over Scottish Second Division side Dumbarton with England
under-21 winger Adam Johnson scoring the pick of the goals. The only downside of an otherwise fine
run out for the Boro team was a hip injury to Frenchman Didier Digard, hopefully not too bad of an
injury as we could really do with him staying injury free for a while!

After the second successive week, that elusive Egyptian Mido has still not turned up for training
at Middlesbrough!
Gareth Southgate was understood to have expected his Egyptian striker back today after his no-show
all last week but was again let down when he did not appear.
Apparently, the loss of two weeks wages, which he was fined, means little to Mido who like Afonso
Alves, neglected to turn up last week and was given a telling off by Southgate over the phone last
week.

Middlesbrough have announced that, after 3 years as assistant manager, Malcolm Crosby has left
the club.
The angry majority of Boro fans have been calling for boss Gareth Southgate's head for a long
while now, but this back-room departure comes somewhat out of the blue. According to the report on
BBC Sport, and Crosby's comments, the decision was down to Southgate.

Betcha didn't think the highlight of the weekend would be from Egypt's friendly
with....checking....checking....Oman. Amr Zaki, the new/old Mido, hasn't made himself very welcome
at Wigan as of late. In fact he was famously called by Steve Bruce the most "unprofessional"
athlete he's ever worked with - no small charge.

Wigan Athletic 1-2 Manchester United
Carlos Tevez came off the bench to help inspire Manchester United to victory after going
a goal down and the win means the Red Devils are one point away from being crowned
Champions.
Wigan had United on the back foot as early as the second minute as Valencia burst clear of
Nemanja Vidic but shot wide.

This will be an interesting game for United. There are rumors all over the Internet that after
Ronaldo's antics on Sunday that he and Fergie had a huge bust up afterward. I have even read a
rumor that Fergie has agreed to sell Ronaldo to Mardrid for 72 Million pounds!!!!! If that happens
then United can do what the fans want and resign Tevez for 26 Million and take the rest and go get
Frank Ribery(seen on right) who right now could turn into just as good a player without being a
bitch of a teammate.

By AriesArshavin has been speaking on his personal web site about the victory at Wigan. He
considers that the forced exit of Mido and the deployment of Arsenal's big guns, Adebayor and Van
Persie, were important in deciding the outcome of the game."Mido caused a lot of problems for us.
They supplied him with long balls and their assault ended with a goal from a corner.

To Anfield, where football was not the most important thing on the agenda for once. Paying
respect to those who sadly lost their lives in the Hillsborough disaster, 20 years ago this
Wednesday, was at the forefront of everyone's mind. A minute‘s silence, impeccably observed. What
followed was fitting; a comprehensive feast of flowing football saw Liverpool
sweep Blackburn aside with ease.
