Liverpool have lost out on many great players over the years for a variety of reasons but there is
one player most fans - including Craig Bellamy - would agree is the proverbial 'one that got
away'.
That player is Danish maestro Michael Laudrup. Liverpool had two chances to sign this footballing
magician (1983 and 1989) but failed on both occasions, and Bellamy is still gutted about it:
"My biggest regret is that the club didn't sign Michael Laudrup when they had the chance.
England legend Paul Gascoigne has revealed that Kenny Dalglish tried to sign him for Liverpool
during the 1988 season.
Gascoigne, who went on to sign for Spurs instead, remembered:
"Kenny was the first one to come in for me. He said ‘I want to sign you'...Ian Rush was playing
at Juventus at the time.

Former Danish international becomes the latest victim of a relatively recent trend of assistant
managers getting the boot rather the manager.
The former Arsenal midfielder thus follows Rovers' chief scout, chairman, finance director and
secretary out the Ewood Park door and one wonders if Steve Kean will be next.
Michael Laudrup has stepped down as manager of Mallorca after just over a year in charge of the
Spanish club.
The Dane has come under pressure recently after a poor string of results at the start of the new
Primera La Liga competition, but his side did beat Real Sociedad 2-1 on Sunday.
Laudrup's assistant Erik Larsen was dismissed by club owner Lorenzo Serra Ferrer on Monday evening,
after Larsen went public with his thoughts on Serra Ferrer.

Paolo Maldini. Il Capitano. The longest-serving one-club man in football history. He's won
everything there is to win and then done it all again. A man who stood on the very apex of
committed defending for almost 25 years. Cultured, consummate and quintessentially Italian.

Recent History
Their first, probably their last, certainly their everything!
Nicklas Bendtner had started the game on Saturday afternoon against a really strong Chelsea side
and put in a decent job. It was hard for NB to be fair at times because Chelsea had much of the
ball against a Sunderland side that look still to be gelling with all the signings they've made
post season.

Neville Southall. Neville. F**king. Southall former binman, mustachioed powerhouse, atavistic
footballing throwback and one of, if not the finest goalkeeper of his generation...
To be honest, Big Nev deserves this afternoon's vid-tribute nod just for the sheer number of
abhorrent jerseys he's been forced to sport down through the years.

The subject of Pies' Friday afternoon tribute this week just so happens to be one of my all-time
favourites, ever since my grandparents bought me a knock-off 'Batistuta #9′ Fiorentina shirt home
from a market stall in Venezuela (of all places) at the age of ten or eleven.

Read any Djalminha retrospective and the same words seem to crop up; brilliant, mercurial,
elusive, tumultuous, profligate, turbulent and it's little wonder why.
Having intermittently illuminated Spanish football with his extrovert brand of grace and skill
after arriving at Deportivo La Coruna in 1997 (including a starring role in their title-winning
side of 1999/2000), Djalminha looked a shoe-in for a spot in Brazil's 2002 World Cup squad right up
until he pressed the self-destruct button two days before Phil Scolari was due to announce his
final draft headbutting Deportivo coach Javier Irureta during a training ground scuffle.

Welcome, one and all, to Pies' regular Friday afternoon video tribute to the true footballing
deities that have graced this hallowed sport down through the years, this week one of the most
effortless, silky and demure playmakers of the modern era: Denmark's own Michael Laudrup.
We decided to take the entire last millennium out of the equation and pretend the world began in
2000. At least, I consoled myself while I crossed out the names of Diego Maradona and Michael
Laudrup, 99% of you taking part in this debate will have seen the contenders in action.

Alberto Undiano Mallenco.
La Liga Lowdown, Jornada 25/26: Real Madrid hit seven past weakened Málaga is a post from: Just
Football
As you may have noticed, the schedule in Spain is hectic at the moment – round 25 of La Liga
was played at the weekend, while round 26 was a midweek affair, with games being played from
Tuesday to Thursday.
John Terry took to the stage with Carlo Ancelotti ahead of tonight's Champions League game and was
forced to answer questions about our manager. Looking quite shocked and annoyed at the same time
Terry responded with the type of rallying call to the players and the fans that could spark life
into our season.
Maybe Florentino Pérez might start to appreciate Gonzalo Higuaín now.
The man that Pérez wanted to offload since he returned for his second stint as Real president
sits in the stands because he is recovering from surgery that repaired a herniated lumbar disc in
his back, and José Mourinho has not developed a successful system to cope with this loss.
