Chicago Fire centerback Cory Gibbs is calling it a career.
The Fire announced Monday that Gibbs is retiring after a 12-year professional career that saw him play in MLS, the German Bundesliga and Eredivisie. The 32-year-old Gibbs also represented the U.
The Philadelphia Union announced on Monday the signing of defender Chris Albright.
The Philadelphia native, a product of Penn Charter and FC Delco, has played in MLS for 13 years,
beginning with DC United where he started his career as a forward.
When Chicago Fire defender Cory Gibbs recently appeared on Windy City Live to promote the club's
new sponsorship deal with Quaker Oats, the most astute of supporters may have noticed something
different about his appearance: his jersey did had short sleeves.
"I love my long-sleeves," said Gibbs during a recent interview with Hot Time in Old Town.
Hola Amigos! Burrito been in the dawg house (Liter-ally) lately. Pero no problem, He back now!
It's been a year since MLS Commisionado El Don Garber came to South Florida to talk to Burrito's
compadres the Miami Ultras. Burrito was mad cause they no let in dawgs to Hotel that day pero
Burrito was able to steal pictures from Uncle Ed's cell phone and si the picture not good qualities
pero thats life.
We all talk about New Year's resolutions. You know what I say about them: view ‘em as
"guidelines" more than "rules" and you'll live a far more guilt-free year. So that's that.
But I'd like to start out 2012 with another kind of "resolution." As in, I'd love to see some
quick resolutions to vexing issues in the domestic game.
One time Miami Fusion player Carlos "El Pibe" Valderrama and former L.A. Galaxy player Jorge Campos

The online soccer community is abuzz with recent statements from Commissioner Garber (courtesy
of Steve Davis), that MLS has raised its expansion fee for a 20th team to $100 million for the New
York market. According to Davis' article, the league remains focused on New York for team 20,
but has not set a timetable for that expansion.
Si, Burrito's new girlfriend, Veronica Paysse is now on the radio! You never heard of her? Well,
Burrito's love affair with her began many a futbol years ago.
In 2001 The Miami Fusion was shut down. Burrito's heart was broken and Burrito swear he would never
see another MLS game again. EVERS!
Pero, one day when Uncle Ed was changing channels, and as Burrito was chewing on a bone, there,
there, out of the corner of Burrito's eye he see a real mamacita!
The best team in the world, Barcelona played the most popular team in Mexico (Chivas de
Guadalajara) and filled Sun Life Stadium on a humid Wednesday night in Miami. Section 404 was
packed with Miami Ultras and other fans who were present to watch the beautiful game at it's best.
We all saw Chivas shock Barcelona with their wonderful play and goals.
Ex Miami Fusion captain and current Fort Lauderdale Strikers Assistant coach Jim Rooney was our
guest last night on Miami Ultras Alive.
Rooney was gracious enough to answer our questions about his Fusion days, including a number of
anecdotes concerning Ray Hudson's underwear and a his own sports bra (In tribute to Brandi
Chastain's World Cup goal) inspired celebration during the MLS All Star game.
Carlos de los Cobos is no longer the Chicago Fire head coach. Frank Klopas takes over in the
interim. Who will be the next full-time head coach to roam the sidelines at Toyota Park? Thoughts
and a head coach poll are after the break.
Eric Wynalda
Pros: Eric Wynalda's started out playing in the wilderness that was American soccer
between the North American Soccer League ending in 1984 and Major League Soccer starting in
1996.
Julio Caballero, VP of the Miami Ultras has formed a group called La Academia which is exclusively
dedicated to bringing Major League Soccer back to South Florida. They also organize MLS watch
party's and will soon lead a pilgrimage of South Florida soccer fans to invade an MLS game to
support our bid for MLS in Miami.
Hola Amigos! You wanna see some good futbol? Then come to Mickey Byrne's Irish Pub in Hollywood
this Saturday March 26 at 7:00 pm to see the USA vs Argentina game.
This event will be hosted by South Florida United which is an umbrella group that wants to bring
all South Florida Soccer groups together.
In January, MLS Commissioner, Don Garber, visited nearby club, Fort Lauderdale Strikers
(formerly Miami F.C.) while exploring potential markets for the league's 20th club. Miami may have
a second chance at success in the first division after the league removed the Miami Fusion in
2001.
Here is a recap of South Florida Soccer news for today.
Fort Lauderdale Strikers
The Sun Sentinel announced yesterday that the Strikers will have a press conference today to
announce that Tim Robbie will take over as the Strikers President, replacing Aaron Davidson who
will now concentrate on his role as NASL CEO.
Lot's of soccer news this week!
We start with the Strikers re-signing 3 players yesterday. Here is what the team had to say:
The Strikers announced today that they have resigned forward/midfielder Martin Nuñez,
midfielder Lennon Celestino, and forward Brian Shriver for the 2011 season.
Hola Amigos! Burrito been in the dawg house (Liter-ally) lately. Pero no problem, He back now!
It's been almost a month since MLS Commisionado El Don Garber came to South Florida to talk to
Burrito's compadres the Miami Ultras. Burrito was mad cause they no let in dawgs to Hotel pero
Burrito was able to steal pictures from Uncle Ed's cell phone and si the picture not good qualities
pero thats life.
Calling all supporters groups! Calling all Miami Ultras, Southern Legion, South Florida Football
Fanaticos, Hooligans, Striker Likers, anyone who loves Soccer in South Florida!
It's time we all get together and meet each other. No matter if we don't agree and want to be
different entities.
What exactly to make of D.C. United's 4-1 dismantling of FC Dallas on national TV last week? Was
it a sign that Ben Olsen's rebuilding project in DC is complete? Is it a sign that FC Dallas has
suddenly plummeted from its perch as a Western Conference contender? Or is it just another sign of
parity in a 2012 season that's already seen the Seattle Sounders, LA Galaxy, and Real Salt Lake
lose at home to teams that didn't make the playoffs in 2011?
It's no surprise with so many talented players having come through the U.S. system that there would
be a lot of guys who have shared the same field together and then separated as their careers
progressed. Well, it's reunion time here in Phoenix, and a review of the roster reveals several
players who have won national championships together, MLS Cup titles, U.
Tonight, the New England Revolution take on the Vancouver Whitecaps at Empire Field in
Vancouver, British Columbia. It will be the Revs' first trip to the west coast of Canada and the
second of three matches over a seven-day span.
I was expecting Steve Nicol to shuffle the lineup a little bit in light of the quick turnaround
between last Saturday's match and this weekend's tilt against Real Salt Lake, but as you'll see in
the lineups I was mistaken.
The U.S. team was training today on a field adjacent to the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers, who have
reached the semifinals of the 2011 NASL playoffs. The Strikers are coached by Daryl Shore, the
long-time goalkeeper coach for the Chicago Fire, so it was yet another Fire reunion as Shore caught
up with Carlos Bocanegra, DaMarcus Beasley and Michael Bradley.
The second-division NASL side Miami FC changed its name, changed its colors, and moved 30 miles up
the road to become the latest incarnation of the Fort Lauderdale Strikers. There was a ceremony in
Fort Lauderdale to unveil the new identity of the team. The Strikers will play in Lockhart Stadium
in the northern end of the city, which was the home to soccer in South Florida during the Strikers'
heyday in the 70s and early 80s, and then restored to its former glory for the MLS' Miami Fusion in
the late 90s.
NASL teams have been busy recently, not only with the NASL Player Combine in sunny Florida this
past weekend but in signing veteran players for the 2011 season. FC Tampa Bay announced the
signing of veteran defender Frankie Sanfilippo, while the Puerto Rico Islanders also reached out
for experienced backline leadership by adding former Aztex' captain Jay Needham.
The haters of Miami as a soccer town were out in full force last week as it was announced that
fewer than 6800 tickets had been sold for the USA vs Honduras game to be played at Sun Life
Stadium. The game hadn't even been played yet and already they were bashing.
In the end over 21,000 showed up on a wet night to watch the United states defeat Honduras 1-0
thanks to a wonderful goal by Clint Dempsey.
The U.S. team has been based in Ft. Lauderdale this week and has had a chance to catch up on the
latest incarnation of the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers. Coached by former Fire assistant Daryl Shore,
the Strikers are currently in the semifinals of the NASL playoffs.
That got us thinking about the good ole' days, and we reached to former U-20 head coach Thomas
Rongen, who played here from 1981-83 alongside former legends like Gerd Muller, the German
international who scored the second most goals in World Cup history, and Peruvian star Teofilo
Cubillas.

Leeds United have unveiled their new home kit for the 2013-14 season.
With new manager Brian McDermott now in charge of Leeds, the team will be wearing a new kit next season designed by Macron, an Italian company. The design is quite a different one for the Elland Road club, with a blue vertical line running down the front of the jersey.
Throughout Sports history there are fans who have become an insignia or symbol of a team. The
Lakers have Jack Nicholson, The Knicks have Spike Lee... The Miami Fusion had Burrito.
Very little is know about this mysterious and solitary soul. According to Burrito he was Born one
cold night in the year of our lord 1998 in the city of Toluca, Mexico.
Sweet pair of Hackens!
It is one of North America's most fiercely contested, rodent-related soccer tournaments in
history. FIFA ranks it in the Top 250 theme park-based football competitions of the 21st Century.
Yes, it's time to get off the teacups and take the monorail over to the Walt Disney World Pro
Soccer Classic.
After the Strikers played their best game this season with a 3-0 whipping of the Edmonton Drillers
we had our best show on Miami Ultras Alive#17.
We were extremely excited to have as our guest former Miami Fusion captain and current Fort
Lauderdale Strikers assistant coach Jim Rooney. Jim was a hard nosed blu-collar guy on and off the
field.
