The opening round pairings have been announced for the MIAA Women's Soccer Championships to be played on campus sites. Central Missouri who won the regular season championship on Saturday night enters the weekend at the tournaments top seed. All first round games will be played on Oct. 30 at the site of the higher seeded team.
(Springfield, Mo.) Kendra Wood (Rolla, Mo./Rolla)'s goal in the 108th minute (pictured) gave the
Missouri S&T Lady Miners a 2-1 double OT win over Washburn on Sunday in Springfield, Mo. It's the
first time the Lady Miners have started a season 2-0 since 2003 when they opened with three
straight wins.
The Drury Panthers are hosting the Drury Invitational with four games for the men this weekend.
Coach Ryan Swan's squad finished last fall with a flurry, knocking off top-seed, regular season
champion and nationally fourth-ranked Northern Kentucky 2-1 in Highland Heights to kick off a
scintillating run in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships, one that wasn't halted until
the Panthers fell 2-1 in two overtimes to Quincy in the title match in Kansas City.
I've updated my calendars for the area teams I'll be tracking this season. All of the teams are
in action this weekend and there are some interesting games on tap. Here are the current schedules

Welcome to the Southwest Baptist Bearcat's Men's soccer program who begin their first season of
play on September 1st. The squad held their first exhibition match of the season over the weekend,
falling 3-6 to the Maryville Saints, a D2 squad that plays in the GLVC. They continue preparations
for the season with a scrimmage at Missouri State this evening, playing the Bears at 7:00 pm at
Plaster Stadium.
From Missouri Southern Lions Missouri Southern's head soccer coach Alese Woolard announced the
signing of six freshmen today that will join the team next season.
"Adding this group of talented players to the roster makes us very eager to start the 2012
season. I believe their positive attitudes and work ethics will mesh well with those of our
returners, and I expect to remain very competitive in the MIAA.
The MIAA has announced that it will add men's soccer as a conference sport, effective with the
2012 fall season. Fort Hays State University, Lindenwood University, Northeastern State University,
Southwest Baptist University and Truman State University will all field men's soccer teams in
2012.
Additionally the MIAA announced that is has extended invitations to Harding University, Southern
Nazarene University and Upper Iowa University to begin the process to become Associate Members of
the MIAA for the purpose of playing men's soccer in the MIAA.

The Missouri Southern Lions, who play D2 soccer in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic
Association (MIAA) Conference, visit the Drury Panthers, a D2 program in the Great Lakes Valley
Conference (GLVC). The exhibition game will be played at Harrison Stadium at 7:00 pm.
The Truman State Index is reporting that the MIAA has changed it's scheduling model for Women's
Soccer going into the 2011 Fall season
For women's soccer, the MIAA Conference will transition back to how it was scheduled in 2000
when every team played each other once. This schedule allows for 13 conference matches and five
non-conference matches — which likely would be used for regional competition from a different
conference.

standout Alese Woolard as the new head women's soccer coach.
Woolard replaces recently named head coach Dwight Burgess who, after being named to the post,
had a change of heart and decided to stay with his family in Ohio.

Missouri Southern State University Director of Athletics Jared Bruggeman has announced the
selection of Dwight Burgess as its new head women's soccer coach. He begins his duties officially
at Southern on August 15.
Burgess, a veteran of nearly 30 years in coaching, has spent the past ten years as both the
men's and women's soccer coach at Capital University in Ohio.
