I sat down with Shannon Fitzgerald last week, following her final college game for the Northwest
Missouri State Bearcats, a 2-1 loss to the Southwest Baptist Bearcats. You may recall the short

Shannon is a Catholic 2005 graduate who played on 2 State tournament teams for the Irish, and
played in 74 games for the Bearcats.

There is a full slate of college games to enjoy this week, the first featuring our Division 1
program. The Missouri State Bears will host Oral Roberts on Wednesday at 4:00 pm at Plaster
Stadium. A final non-Conference game before closing out the regular season with six MVC games. The
Golden Eagles just beat Centenary 2-1, a team the Bear's clobbered 4-0.

Two-time defending MIAA soccer champion Central Missouri State got the nod over Truman State for
preseason No. 1 in the 2009 MIAA coaches poll, the league office announced Thursday.
The Jennies received six of nine first-place votes and totaled 62 points. Central Missouri won
the MIAA title outright in 2008 after sharing the crown with Truman State in 2007.

Southwest Baptist Bearcats won both of their MIAA matches this weekend. On
Thursday they traveled to Emporia State where they won 3-1.
On Saturday, they went to Joplin where they dismantled the MSSU Lions, 6- 1. SBU's Rhiane
Mitchell, who entered the week at the very top of the NCAA's points and goals leader board, scored
three goals and recorded one assist.

the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA). It's primarily a football discussion
but it points to the role of Athletics on campus and as part of the process of differentiating a
school and a program.

This is a very good result for the Bears, getting the win on a 50th minute goal from their midfield
general, sophomore Samantha Aguilar. Sophomore midfielder Christine Cross earned the assist as she
led Aguilar with a pass that resulted in a goal in the bottom left corner of the net.

'Bri', as she is called by family and friends, is another of the multi-sport stars that many of the
regional high schools are fortunate to have. In the Fall she runs for Lebanon's District Champion
cross-country program, and she qualified for State as a junior and a senior as the team also
advanced.
