Spare a though for the brave hosts

I don't know about you, but I did feel sorry for South Africa after seeing them fall out of the World Cup on Tuesday.

Bafana Bafana showed plenty of guts and determination and their singing on arrival to the stadiums and in the tunnel put a smile on my face. But unfortunately that couldn't make up for their lack of quality and they became the first ever host nation to be eliminated at the group stage and fail to be involved in the final 16.

Midnight on late Wednesday night/Thursday morning saw the end of the 2013 Liga MX draft, with no less than 104 players making full transfers or loans to other clubs in the league.

The busy last few days, the end of the domestic transfer period, saw many high-profile transfers, none higher than Mexico National Team forward Aldo de Nigris moving from Monterrey to Chivas Guadalajara, potentially jump-starting Jorge Vergara's club's stuttering attack.

France Does its Penance

Just a quick note today: France needed its loss, even more than Mexico needed this win today. They need to absolve themselves of burden of guilt brought onto the team by Henry's handball, which kept a more deserving Ireland from participating in these World Cup matches.

Mexico showed they wanted this win, when 22 year old Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez - recently recruited by Manchester United (big, big news in these parts) - glided past France's back line to receive Marquez's long ball.

Aguirre said that June 6 will be Mexico's D day.

Some of the many who came out in support of the move were his successor in 2002, Ricardo Lavolpe, as well as a player who earned his first cap under Aguirre, Andres Guardado.
