Good afternoon! It's another beautiful day here in Red Bulls Land and it's do-or-die time for our
favorite team. Yes - today RBNY finds itself tied for 5th place in the Eastern Conference with non
other than DC United. Also, a couple of teams that were way behind the Red Bulls (Houston & KC),
are now ahead in the Eastern Conference standings.
Ruben Navarette, Jr., nationally syndicated columnist, has taken time out to mix sports and
scolding, exhorting Mexico fans not to boo the United States.
Well, I for one disagree. In fact, I hereby give permission - nay, encouragement - for immigrants
everywhere to boo any US team as much as they please.
For the often-maligned CONCACAF region, Mexico's victory in the U-17 World Cup was a big deal.
South American and European teams have dominated men's soccer for generations, so the raw emotion
of just under 100,000 screaming Mexican fans provided an excellent advertisement for the region to
FIFA chiefs in attendance.
Two weeks ago I wrote an article entitled Why the Gold Cup Final Should Be on FOX, which argued
that the chance of a USA against Mexico Gold Cup Final would have been a potential home run ratings
bonanza for FOX. However FOX stuck to its guns and decided to keep the final on FOX Soccer

after holding an early, 2-0 is one of those games that we hold onto for awhile. Processing what
went right, what went wrong, and what to do about it all is a question for the players, the coach,
Sunil Gulati, and the Big Soccer message boards.
STARTERSOguchi Onyewu has officially signed with Sporting of Lisbon Portugal. Its a 3 year deal.
-They have two veteran starting centerback on the roster already, so he will have to beat them out
for a starting spot.
STORY OF THE DAYThere is a storm brewing among supporters of the USA men's national team about the way they were
treated last Saturday night at the Rose Bowl.
Yesterday I devoted my writing time on this site entirely to the Portland Timbers. My daily
traffic noticeably suffered for it, but I stand by that this is, above all else,a blog for and
about the Timbers, questionable performances and all. Today, however, there doesn't seem to be any
Portland Timbers news to write about, hence, a Gold Cup review.
New online game Soccer Knockout allows you to wade-in on the, erm, friendly rivalry between Mexico
and the USA as the two nations prepare to slog it out at the Gold Cup. CONCACAF's big two meet in
the final tomorrow evening, but in case any Mexican fans find themselves with a little excess
aggression between [.
We hope that you didn't stumble upon this Gold Cup preview piece expecting to unlock the secrets of
the squads that face our U.S. National Team or any of the groups participating in the
tournament.
We will however be less-unlocking and more "twisting-off" the caps of many a brews from the
CONCACAF region both big, small, and REALLY small.
These moments aren't in any order but a logo of how they enhanced the attractive game.
1. Togo's players celebrating their first aim in the world cup towards South Korea in their
opening match. No one can guess that they don't seem to be being paid for playing on the planet
cup.
2. Philip Lahm excellent goal against Costa Rica within the 6th minute led strategy to a high
scoring World Cup.
