1. Caught Offside
Be a sheep. Whilst it is always good to locate the 'next big thing' and follow the trend of a
cheap player hitting a strong patch of form, do not attempt to adhere to the theory that buying the
most obvious players is pointless as everyone has them.
There is a long long way to go before the end of the season, but some papers just can't help
creating the occasional Arsenal transfer rumour anyway. Today the Metro reports that the Ajax
defender Jan Vertonghen is being lined up by both Arsenal and Tottenham with a view to a £10m bid
this summer, [.
The Talking Bull boys are back with their latest, greatest and 40th episode. This week, our own
Matt Conroy (aka Who Shot Sam) and Ben Schneider (of Once A Metro fame) discuss the Tim Ream
transfer, the signing of Conde, Pálsson and (re-signing of) Joel Lindpere and goalkeeping options.
All Arsenal fans know that Arsene Wenger is in need of a top class striker to act as cover for
Robin Van Persie (or even as a replacement if the Dutchman leaves at the end of the season). So
with that in mind, the Metro reports this morning that Arsenal are interested in signing the [...]
Arsene Wenger has made it clear that a temporary signing of a left-back is an immediate priority
for Arsenal before the Gunners play their next League game against Swansea, and it seems that he
could be close to signing one, according to the Metro this evening. There are three top-class
left-backs on the market right [.
Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish is set to step up his pursuit of a new midfielder during the
course of the January transfer window and has set his sights on Sunderland's Stephane Sessegnon,
according to reports in The Metro.

Martin O'Neil at the Stadium of Light.

With his slinky goal against West Brom last night, Jermain Defoe overtook Glenn Hoddle's scoring
tally for Tottenham but even that didn't gloss over the fact that, at some point before the game,
he chose to do this to his head...
Yeesh.
Liverpool striker Dirk Kuyt could be in line for a shock Anfield departure during the January
transfer window with Galatasaray showing an interest, according to reports in The Metro.
Since arriving at Liverpool from Feyenoord for £10million in 2006, Kuyt has been one of the key
players for the Anfield outfit.
The little Russian maestro Andrei Arshavin has not looked very happy playing for Arsenal every time
he has appeared on the pitch this season, even though Arsene Wenger has given him numerous chances
to make an impact off the bench, and according to the Metro he has dropped behind Yossi Benayoun
and Thomas Rosicky in [.
According to todays Metro Arsenal have rejoined the race to sign Gary Cahill after suffering yet
another defensive injury against Manchester City yesterday. Johann Djourou will be out for at least
three weeks, and he joins the other full-backs Bacary Sagna and Andre Santos on the treatment
table, with Santos expected to be unavailable for [.
Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish is preparing to step up his pursuit of a new midfielder to replace
the injured Lucas who is out for the rest of the season and has set his sights on Tottenham's
Sandro, according to reports in The Metro.
Sandro signed for Tottenham from Internacional in 2010 for £8million, however the Brazilian
international has failed to nail down a regular first-team place and since the arrival of Scott
Parker has found himself even further down the pecking order at White Hart Lane.
Over the weekend, Kevin Bond hinted at a possible permanent move for Emmanuel Adebayor at the
end of his current season long loan move. Ade proved an instant hit at Spurs and although he hasn't
scored in the league since his double strike against Liverpool, many Tottenham fans are hoping that
the club will somehow find a way to afford his transfer fee and considerable wages.
FC Milwaukee opens the 2011-12 season in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy this weekend with a

Jermaine Defoe scuttled backstage at the London O2 to meet Rihanna after her gig last night,
only there was one small problem and I don't mean that he was so nervous that a small bit of wee
came out...
Nope. Indeed the ricket was actually dropped by the semi-sexy nasal Bajan whingebag, who greeted
our Jermain thusly:
"Oh, Jermain, you play for Arsenal, yeah?

It's yet another dissapointing end to an MLS season for the New York Red Bulls and the Talking Bull
duo is all over it. In this episode, our own Matt Conroy (aka Who Shot Sam) and Ben Schneider (of
Once A Metro fame) review the second leg of the RBNY/Galaxy series, take a look at the positives
and negatives of this past season, discuss personel decisions and what needs to be fixed for the
coming season.
A musical best man's speech dedicated to the Yeovil Town-supporting groom has become a big hit
after being uploaded to YouTube. Glovers mad Matt Tilley received the (mainly) tuneful tribute at
his wedding to Nicola. Best man Mark Southern reworked Yeovil's 2004 FA Cup song Yeovil True,
calling upon several members of the groom's friends [.
Lots of Arsenal news filtering through this morning, not least of which is the report alerting
us that Peter Hill-Wood does not expect to open contract talks with Robin van Persie until the end
of the season.
RVP's current deal is due to expire in 2013 and, obv, AW and the like are keen to get him to
sign a new but apparently he does not want to do that until the summer.

Well, after the hysteria of yesterday's shirt giveaway (more on that later) things have taken a
rather sober turn this afternoon. Like one of those magic-eye pictures that were all the rage in
the nineties, the details are burning into focus and it looks awfully like another international
break boogieman.
Would you really want Alessandro Del Piero at Spurs? That was the unlikely suggested transfer
that emerged briefly yesterday in London's Metro newspaper amidst suggestions that the 36 year old
Italian is eyeing up a move to London.
Del Piero has been with Juventus for an incredible 18 years since signing from Padova in 1993,
but has been told that he can leave the club at the end of the current Italian season.
Another fight card this evening:
The undercard showcases a Union team that out-thought rather than misplayed themselves on
Sunday. The Dynamo probably just need a single goal to tget through on this one.
The main event is the matched hoped for at MLS headquarters for the Finals, only the team from
New York failed to live up to their expectations.

After just one defeat in six games, Martin Keown has praised Arsenal's bounce back to form after
their lucky but deserved victory against Marseille on Wednesday night. Speaking to the Metro, the
Arsenal legend said, "The defending has improved in recent weeks and it's easier to put things
right when you are winning more than [.

Ben Schneider of Once A Metro, SB Nation's New York Red Bulls blog,
and I exchanged three questions ahead of tonight's Union-Red Bulls game.
tBG: Without Thierry Henry in the line up, due to a red card he picked up against
Sporting Kansas City, does Hans Backe choose Juan Agudelo or push Dane Richards up to partner with
Luke Rodgers?
Just in time for the white-knuckle ride that is the final week of the MLS season, guest co-host Dan
Ferris (from Once a Metro) and I are back today with another episode of Talking Bull, North
American Soccer Network's RBNY-themed podcast. This week, we look back at the disastrous loss in
Kansas City that saw Thierry Henry get sent off, preview Thursday's showdown with Philadelphia
Union and discuss the club's announcement that Hans Backe will be back on the touchline next
season.

it was the Sochaux play-maker who replaced Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye for France, in the

Having already been liquidated once back in 2010, Polish IV League outfit Klub Sportowy Hutnik
Krakow are once again facing financial rack and ruin with debts mounting etc, etc.
Good news then, that several of Hutnik's more altruistic female fans have volunteered to strip
off for a nude calendar to help raise a bit of cash in aid of relieving the (monetary) tension.

There was a time, back in the primordial ooze, that Coldplay were an almost passable band, they
were on the brink but after album upon album of mawkish rhyming couplets, tedious radar-ping guitar
motifs and cookie-cutter MOR AOR, well, deary me doesn't 'Parachutes' seem like such a long time
ago now?
It will be interesting to see how much effect the African Cup of Nations has on the Premiership in
January, but Arsenal are certain to lose Gervinho and Marouane Chamakh from their attacking
options. With this in mind, todays Metro reports that Arsenal intend to return to Fiorentina with a
£12m bid for the Peruvian [.

Wojciech Szczesny has refused to rule out following former captain Cesc Fabregas and switching
from Arsenal to Barcelona.
But Szczesny admits any future move to the current European Champions would not be motivated by
money.
The Metro this morning reports that the 21-year-old described the club as 'his second home' in
an interview with the Polish media this week, but refused to rule out following a lengthy list of
former Gunners' stars in joining the Spanish giants.
New York gets two wins in eight days, sandwiched around a horrible loss and a locker room
controversy. Dave and Mark review the week that was for the Red Bulls, then chat with Metro legend
and RBNY coach Mike Petke on the team's mood ahead of Toronto. We finish with a super batch of
listener mail!

You may remember not-so-very long ago when Pies broke the huge news that Michael Owen was a
closet 1,000-piece equine jigsaw junkie. No? How could you possibly let an earth-shaking story like
that slip from your memory?
Very well, let's move on.
Seems like L'il Micky's Manchester United teammates have now cottoned on to his penchant for the
puzzle, taking a tell-all magazine clipping and blu-tacking it up in Owen's segment of the dressing
room wall at Carrington, along with a rather hurtful sticker that read 'ZZZZ!
Arsene Wenger is lining up a £7million move for Valencia midfielder Daniel Parejo in January.
The mail says Arsenal representatives were in Spain last week to meet the 22-year-old's
agent.
It is reported that central midfielder Parejo is a graduate of Real Madrid's academy and also
had a spell at QPR three years ago before joining Valencia this summer.
