Sunday saw the Serie D derby between Messina and Igea finish goalless at a rain-sodden Stadio Carlo Stagno d'Alcontres.

Indeed, excess water proved to be the overriding theme of the match as the home side found themselves limping home with 10 men after the dismissal of their goalkeeper, Armando Prisco.

The Foggia of Miracles is being rebuilt

Back in the late 1980's, Pugliese club U.S. Foggia had just returned to Serie B after many years and were looking to be promoted to Serie A. The club, passed through the family to Pasquale Casillo, was looking to create an ambitious project. The club hired a Czech coach named Zdenek Zeman, who had coached Foggia in 1986 but was sacked by the Casillo family.

Serie A Transfers/News so far…

I know, the Italy Offside has been pretty dead recently and I haven't really added new posts. But you know this tournament called the World Cup has been going on and it's been pretty interesting. So I've been paying attention to that, and let's be honest, most people are. Sure Serie A clubs are still making moves and trying to solve things for next season, but nothing really serious is going on, and nothing big will happen until probably mid-July when this whole World Cup thing comes to an end and pre-season training begins.

Great Serie A Games: Milan-Messina 2004/2005

The 2004/2005 season saw the return of Sicily to Serie A. Palermo and Messina would be in paradise after long absences: the Rosanero hadn't been in Serie A since the early 70's and Messina hadn't been in Serie A since the mid-60's. Both teams were surprises of the season, finishing in the upper echelons of table.

Video: Daniele De Rossi admits to a handball

My introduction to Daniele De Rossi was the vicious elbow that he threw at Brian McBride, leaving his face bloody in the USA vs Italy match in the 2006 World Cup. It left a negative impression of him but here is De Rossi doing something rare in football nowadays, acknowledging that he used his hand to score a goal against Serie side Messina.

Who wants to buy Messina? (all you need is 240,000 euro!)

A couple of years ago (2004 to be exact), Sicilian side Messina were promoted from Serie B and returned to Serie A for the first time since the early 1960s. This is also the same time Palermo were promoted to Serie A for the first time in a long time so all of Italy was surprised to see two Sicilian sides in Serie A in the 2004-2005 season (it's not a surprise anymore, as Palermo became a stable Serie A side and they were joined by Catania).

E Muntari?
