Is Song, Cesc, Diaby Our Best Midfield?

Desi Gunner 13 February @ 10:52 PM EDT

The Arsenal website doesn't have much to offer today except this piece Diaby has improved tremendously. I must say I completely agree with that article. At the start of the season I didn't think of the lanky Frenchman as anything more than a squad player (My bad! But can you blame me?) Over the last few months an increasingly fit Diaby has impressed on many levels.

Bolton at home ideal for Sol, Eastmond’s impressive debut & A Spanish warning

Gunners Today 19 January @ 02:03 PM EDT

When feasible, Wenger has made changes in every position except in central defence. But the partnership of Gallas and Vermaelen has only been broken up for Carling cup matches and that match against Olympiakos.

Amidst all the talk about this being our worst season in terms of injuries, we have been extremely fortunate that Vermaelen and more importantly Gallas have remained fit enough to play as often as they have.

Xavi Holds The Key

Arsenal View From a Gooner 19 January @ 11:03 AM EDT
Every season without fail, there's always the rumours and transfer stories relating Cesc Fabregas' return to Spain. While I'm sure that none of the Arsenal fans would not want to see that day coming in the next 10 years, it is something that is to be expected. For a player of his calibre and his [... Huelgas Catalan Doble Por Bolton

Arsenal View From a Gooner 18 January @ 09:38 AM EDT
As Arsenal fans, I think that we are blessed. Maybe not so much during the Graham reign but definitely during the Wenger era. From Bergkamp to Vieira to Henry, we've had truly world-class players that would walk right into any team in the world. Players that on their day, defines the outcome of any match. We’re on a Journey to the Top of the League!

Avenell Road 18 January @ 04:16 AM EDT

If we win the sequel to yesterday's game against Bolton on Wednesday night by two clear goals we leapfrog Man U and the Chav's to go to the top of the Premiership (but we will have played an extra game) we will not be allowed to forget that, just listen out for it, it will drive you nuts.

We would also go top because we have scored the most goals in the League.

Bolton 0-2 Arsenal: Same old Bolton, but not the same old Arsenal

The Beautiful Groan 17 January @ 05:01 PM EDT

Bolton 0 Arsenal 2 (Fabregas 28, Merida 78)
(Premiership)

A trip to the Reebok is tough at the best of times, but with the assortment of elbows and studs looking to impress a new manager, today was always going to be doubly so. Without our premier holding midfielder, and denied the presence and bite of Nasri with a late injury, our midfield had a distinctly wobbly feel to it, even with the return of the immense Fabregas.

Yes, We Need Experience, But…

Arsenal Station 04 January @ 08:17 AM EDT

... we also need the kind of youthful exuberance and enthusiasm that was shown by Aaron Ramsey following his equalizer at Upton Park. The 19-year old ran straight into the 500 traveling Arsenal supporters followed by Carlos Vela to celebrate his superbly taken equalizer.

Slightly older players like van Persie and Eduardo enthusiastically celebrate goals but not like Ramsey today or, for that matter, Cesc.

West Ham 1 – 2 Arsenal: Subs Change The Game

Desi Gunner 04 January @ 01:23 AM EDT

As expected, Arsene made some changes to the starting line up. Interestingly, the defenders got no respite and I doubt if they will at any point this season. Vela, Wilshere and Merida were handed starts along with Silvestre and Fabianski.

Overall the team looked like it should win comfortably as the Hammers didn't really offer any genuine threat.

Player Analysis and Ratings Vs West Ham

Arsenal Analysis 03 January @ 05:05 PM EDT
By 1970's GoonerIt looked like Wenger's starting team selection was going to back fire on him until class and experience was introduced in the second half. Upton Park test overcome

As predicted there were a few changes to the starting eleven. Fabiasnki in for Almunia, Silvestre in for Traore, Merida for Diaby, Vela for Arshavin and Wilshere for Nasri. Arsenal Looking For Strong Draw In Champions League

The ArseNole 10 December @ 01:04 PM EDT
Hello everyone. So the Champions League group stage finished up yesterday, and Arsenal comfortably topped their group even though we lost 1-0 yesterday to Olimpiakos. We played almost all youngsters because the match didn't matter and we were looking ahead to Liverpool this weekend. So today I wanted to talk about the possibilities for who we can draw in the next round, and they are as follows:
AC Milan, Bayern Munich, CSKA Moscow, Porto, Lyon, Inter, and Stuttgart. Click to continue reading...

Despite the defeat, the 'boys done good'

LadyArse - Arsenal and the world of football from a woman's perspective @ OleOl 10 December @ 09:55 AM EDT

Last night's match turned out a lot differently than I thought it would. OK, so I was pretty sure we'd lose, but I thought we might see the kids gets a spanking and genuinely feared for them. Instead, we were left happy with 1-0, safe in the knowledge that we should have/could have won the game an dthe kids coped more than admirably.

Olympiakos-Arsenal Preview

The Offside - Arsenal 08 December @ 02:49 PM EDT

I know, it's not a Carling Cup match. But we appear to be treating it like a Carling Cup match, so I'm using the "Carling Cup Kids" picture.

Anyway, we travel to Olympiakos tomorrow for the final group stage match. The match is pleasantly anticlimactic. As you'll recall, when the group stage draw was done and the fixtures announced, my general sense was that we got a very good draw, but we needed to be sure and wrap up a spot in the knockout stages by the 5th match, because Greece is always a tough place to play, and we didn't want to be in the situation where we had to go to Athens and win just to get through.

Injury Toll Rises

Arsenal View From a Gooner 07 December @ 11:13 AM EDT

The win against Stoke put us back with a shout with regards to the league campaign but it came with a price. Four more players joins the 8 already in the medical room. Gallas, Traore, Eboue and Rosicky all suffered injuries following last Saturday's game and will face time on the sidelines. The long list itself is a very scary one.

Now All I Need Is For Someone To Run My Dog Over And My Week Will Be Complete.

Avenell Road 03 December @ 05:15 AM EDT

I am bemused by some fans who in their anger call for Wenger to have played a stronger team, would you have wanted Cesc to have played? And if he got a similar injury to RVP would you have thought that it was worth it? No, you wouldn't, you would have been calling for Wenger's head.

If Drogba had got had got a similar injury to RVP from playing last night the chavs would have almost certainly have forfeited their chances of winning the CL.

Man City 3-0 Arsenal: Slack defending the root cause again

Last night they came undone against a team which has cost hundreds of millions to put together.

Sanchez Watt and Alex Song both sign new extended contracts at Arsenal, but no news on Merida

Just Arsenal 24 November @ 02:01 PM EDT

The latest young star to emerge from Arsene Wenger's awesome academy is the 18 year-old striker Sanchez Watt. He made his first-team debut in the Carling Cup against West Brom earlier this season, and marked the occasion with his first goal for the club too.

He followed that up with another good game against Liverpool, and it seems he has done enough for Arsene Wenger to sign him up on a long-term deal, and it has been announced today that both he and Alex Song have committed their futures to Arsenal.

Arsenal 2-1 Liverpool

Another great win in the Milk Cup for the Arsenal thanks to two crackers from Merida and Bendtner.

Though fatigue set in at the end, it was another feather in the cap for Wenger's second string. It seems to happen every year, yet every year it still surprises me how much potential there is bubbling under the surface at the club.

Hello Gooners. Well that was close as well, just like the previous two games. Where was the 3-1 I predicted? As it turns out we didn't need that third goal.

You won't agree but for me Liverpool probably shaded it by virtue of the opportunities they created.

Mesmerizing Merida Sends Liverpool Out

Arsenal View From a Gooner 28 October @ 06:48 PM EDT

The journey continues for Wenger and Arsenal as they knock Liverpool out in the fourth round Carling Cup clash at Ashburton Grove. As it often is with the second cup competition in England, Wenger put his faith in the lesser lights of his squad. Silvestre took the armband with Senderos as his centerback partner in front of the returning Fabianski.

Wenger got the team wrong last night. But first, it's important to recognise a couple of things.
Firstly, a draw away in Europe is never a bad result. We had six points on the board, now we have seven. So despite Alkmaar's last minute equaliser we're sure to go through. Which is more than can be said for Liverpool. Click to continue reading...
