Two goals by Gonzalo "El Pipita " Higuain had Manuel Pellegrini pumping his hands Wenger style.
It was a must win for the Merengues over Getafe as the knives were out for Pelligrini.
After the match, Pelligrini said that the club had "recovered its spirit." He praised Higuain "

Without Cristiano Ronaldo, the Merengues lacked creativity and an attacking spark.
Karim Benzema and Kaka both had an unmemorable outing. It was the supporting cast of Granero,
Marcelo and Raul that provided the threat and in the second half Royston Drenthe had his
moments.
Pellegrini turned defensive with Lass and Alonso creating redundancy in the holding midfielder
positions, with Alonso a bit more adventurous.

The nominees for the ballon d'or award have been revealed but there is one name missing-
Ronaldinho's. First of all, Ronaldinho is still a great player even with his current form. Let me
explain why. Talent (what ronaldinho has) is something someone is born with. You cannot learn it
even if you dedicated your entire lifetime to it.

To say it's been a contrasting start to the season for the two major teams in Madrid would be a

currently sit top of the La Liga table with 11 goals and 9 points from their opening three
matches.

Another season of Champions League football has started with a bang even though we failed to see
any major surprises. Barcelona showed they would again be the team to beat after outclassing Inter,
whereas the debutants did fairly well even though Wolfsburg and APOEL were the only
newcomers to win some points in the opening round and the Cypriots' goalless draw at
Vicente Calderon is probably the biggest shock of the round.

("How poorly Madrid are defending.")
Espanyol 0-3 Real Madrid
0-1 Granero, 39'
0-2 Guti, 77'
0-3 Ronaldo, 90'
This was a constant refrain from the Spanish language announcers and the theme of most of the
match, as the Merengues struggled to hold their nerve at the back, occasionally looking as porous
as SpongeBob Square Pants in defense.

Parte la Liga e, all'esordio, vittorioso, per il Barcellona di Guardiola, contro lo Sporting Gijon

New signings Kaká, Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Xabi Alonso, Raúl Albiol and Álvaro Arbeloa
