Chicago Red Stars defender Jill Oakes has written an interesting post about what it means to be a female athlete over at Pretty Tough (via Melissa):
So what DOES it mean to be girl? At one time, we were only cheerleaders, while boys were told not to play "like a girl." Nowadays, girls are tackling, competing, and enduring physical and emotional pain for success in their sport.

DENVER — Against the wind. Regis was winning against the wind. After chasing passes and frequently losing them with the wind at its back in the first half, the Regis University women's soccer team got second-half goals from Chelsea Reichard, Heather Thomas and Ryndi Zastrow to defeat Colorado State University-Pueblo 3-0 on Friday afternoon.

Kick Off Begins For 2009 Women’s Euro Cup

The race is off for the Women's Euro 2009 cup this summer. The championship began on August 23rd with the Netherlands defeating Ukraine 2-0, Finland besting Denmark 1-0 and Germany upping Norway 4-0.

France will be playing tonight against Iceland and more games are scheduled for this week.

There was a good reaction to the video I posted yesterday of me singing Wilco's I'm Always In Love, so I decided to upload a few more. I'll be posting them occasionally here, usually with a different theme. When I used to perform, I had a mini-set, usually early in the night, where I would sing songs with girls names in the title.
