If Henry's "hand of gaul" can be described by words like "stealthy" and "covert" this man's
effort can be described by words like "obvious" and "what the hell was he thinking?"
Brisbane Roar's Henrique's red card winning effort against Melbourne Victory.

Afternoon all, welcome to the blog.
Apologies for the lateness of this post, usually FP tries to have something by 8.30ish every
morning, but delayed today's post in case any Perth Glory news came about.
Sadly, nothing has arrived as yet.
Just a quick point: FP will be away from Perth for about three weeks, working on another project.

Brisbane Roar are on track for a full squad v Melbourne Victory next Saturday 6pm. The
international has helped a lot. And Ange is putting the time to good use - slowing down the tempo
to improve the defence and accuracy of crosses into the box.
Perhaps we could see Henrique, Reinaldo, Van Dijk, Mitch and Tommy on the park together?

So in last week's preview I added in a few sentences about just how excellent an idea it was to
move a W-League game to Shepparton, citing the 'Canberra effect'. Which is, there isn't much else
happening there over summer so why not move women's games to areas where they don't have to compete
with men's for attention?

Good morning all, welcome to the blog.
It's gameday, and with the action coming Wellington today, it means we only have to wait a few
hours for a 12 o'clock kick-off.
On the other hand, it also means we have to deal with the New Zealand commenators, who would be
front-runners for the 'worst football commenators in the world' award - if one were to actually
exist.

Sorry futbol fans as I am again a little late with the television listings again this week, but
it still is busy for us here in Buenos Aires and as long as we get the listings posted by Friday
evening, we feel we're doing pretty well and we hope that everything is here in time to do you some
good.

Morning all, hopefully you were lucky in the Cup. FP wasn't - he drew Daffodil in the sweepstakes,
which turned to be about as effective as a daffodil.
While the Glory boys will be training pretty hard for the remainder of the week, there aren't any
scheduled media pressers until Thursday, so either FP will scrape the bottom of the barrel or he'll
just make up stuff.

IT'S a cliche to say that a loss is disappointing. EVERY loss is disappointing, from the big
thrashings to the winner in the 94th minute.
But what is different is the reasons for the disappointment, well usually.
Yesterday Perth Glory lost 2-1 to Melbourne Victory and it's the third successive lost for the boys
in Purple.

So now we are officially halfway through the season and the contenders I think have truly separated
from the pack. Namely, Brisbane Roar and Sydney FC. Within 24-hours of each other, they have both
recorded W-League record scores. It was the Central Coast Mariners that set the record for biggest
ever win in Season 1, with a 5-0 win over Adelaide.

HOWDY guys.
FP used to hate Saturday's when he was working at one of the major supermarkets (doesn't matter
which one, they as bad as each other).
But now Saturday's are a day for a bit of R and R.
This has nothing to do with Glory, but sharing is caring, right?
Anywho, Glory take on Melbourne Victory tomorrow, and with game-day so close there's quite a bit
going on.

MORNING all. Perth Glory has another training session/presser combo today, with Glory coach Dave
Mitchell up on the media chopping block.
There's a little bit of pressure building with two succesive losess and two tough upcoming games
against Melbourne Victory and Wellington Phoenix.
Also there's still some fans who aren't completely satisfied with DM's coaching style.

MORNING all, hopefully this blog finds you well on 'hump-day'.
Just a quick note on yesterday's post on the void of Perth Glory news. Apparently, Monday was a
rest and recovery day for the players - which is understandable, considering they have been on a
two-week road trip of Queensland.
So yesterday there was a bit of news coming out the Glory camp, but the first official media
gathering for this week, will be a presser just before training today.

So first of all, apologies for the lack of posts this week but have been struck down by unfortunate
case of killer flu. Next week will (hopefully) be back to normal. But before then we have a whole
of Round 4 to go and it's going to provide some crackers. Just thinking of last year's game between
Canberra United and Melbourne Victory makes me all wistful for the amazing talent that is Amy
Chapman, I can still picture her wonder-scross that curled in over Melissa Barbieri that ended up
being the winner in the 93rd minute.

So is this the round that the Mariners prove they are real Westfield W-League title contenders?
They are up against Brisbane Roar - the inaugural champions who so far haven't missed a beat. Then
there is the team that met Brisbane in the grand final of the first season, Canberra United, who
haven't registered a single point this year.

This from football's best journalist Mike Cockerill:
'There are some suggestions that Moore could be looking for a way out following the coaching change
- possibly considering a return to Europe sooner rather than later.
Moore, 33, is one of only two A-League players in the Socceroos squad, and has been told by
coach Pim Verbeek he needs to keep playing until May to remain in his World Cup plans.

So by now the Westfield Women's under 16 squad will have touched down to Myanmar, to start
preparing for the AFF U16 Women's Championship 2009 in Yangon. It's a warm-up tournament for when
the girls have to head over in November to play in the one that counts, the 2009 AFC under-16 cup -
which is also a qualifier for the next under-17 Women's World Cup.

Yay, the new season of the W-League is just two sleeps away and finally, the squads are here.
So who's in and out? Probably won't know exactly what will happen until the team's line-up but
certainly some interesting last minute signings. Here are the interesting parts of the previews,
game by game.

Adding to the Tampines Rovers exodus now comes a report that Sutee Suksomkit has moved to Melbourne
Victory on a three month loan deal.
The 29 year old follows Noh Alam Shah, Muhamed Riduan and Mustafic Fahruddin out of the SLeague
side who until July were serious title challengers to the leaders of the SLeague.

Less than two weeks out now, and woo hoo, another squad! So with Canberra United (who may still
have a few high profile names to come, and one that is very unexpected but exciting), the Central
Coast Mariners, Brisbane Roar and now Melbourne, we are at the halfway mark for teams.
So here is Melbourne, most back from last year including international Marlies Oostdam, who is
joined by two new international visitors, American Julianne Sitch (from women's pro soccer
champions Sky Blue FC) and Canadian Katie Thorlakson.

Recent Melbourne Victory supporters' protest
Big Story
It's an absurdly hyperbolic headline from the Roar, but their
story of surveillance of fans is a little concerning, especially in the context of the long failure
of the Australian football authorities to understand that heavy-handed restrictions and
knuckle-headed security is not the way to grow the sport in a country with far more established
sporting cultures.

A large number of good results this round, including an interesting match in Brisbane, with
two disappointing defensive errors gifting a win to a deserving Perth Glory. Central Coast won the
first ever Battle of the Coasts, in magnificent fashion. Sydney FC won by a narrow margin, but that
seems to be a trend for the Sky Blues.

Adelaide United vs Melbourne Victory
Hindmarsh Stadium
What will be a very tough encounter, on the basis of revenge. Adelaide losing in the finals of
last season hurt, and will be out to challenge for the title this year. Adelaide so far have been
underperforming, but only just however their performances are deserving of a better placing.

Round 5 Review
Melbourne Victory vs Newcastle Jets 1-1

Despite being able to sustain a high crowd, Melbourne weren't able to replicate that luck on the
pitch, following another disappointing result, the defending champions sit 7th on the A-League
ladder.

With confirmation that Danny Allsopp has left for Qatar club Al-Rayyan Sports, Melbourne Victory
has lost not only one of its two primary scoring targets but a long time servant of the club.
Of course the writing has been on the wall (or in this case within the forums) for a week now after
Allsopp failed to not only take the field against Newcastle but wasn't even present at the game.

Pedestrian. Lethargic. Boring.
A shade over 15,000 came out to watch 90 minutes of the dullest football I've ever seen at the
Dome. It all went wrong about three minutes in when Billy Celeski went down and stayed down. No
Celeski. No Hernandez. The only bright spark for me was Matthew Kemp, who was in fine form after a
couple weeks away.

Here's a bit of a fun fact for Perth Glory fans.
Apparently Perth has never won three games in a row since the Glory opened it's eyes in the
A-League.
Why this is could be anything from the ridiculous scheduling from the FFA, the mismanagement of the
team under certain regimes and coaches, or the power of some voodoo witch doctor.

Round 4 of the Hyundai A-League wrapped up yesterday, with the round producing some mixed and
surprising results.
Adelaide United vs North Queensland Fury
Hindmarsh Stadium 10,733
3-3
10,733 people braved the rain, and the majority watched in horror as North Queensland went ahead

SO there you go, Perth Glory come out on top in a very challenging encounter with Melbourne Victory
last night.
But in many ways, this victory was more pleasing than last week's one against Newcastle.
Against the Jets, Perth dominated possession and open play, and came out with a 2-0 victory.

Perth Glory 2 (Jelic 4, 54)
Melbourne Victory 1 (Thompson 9)

SERBIAN striker Branko Jelic scored two opportunist goals, as Perth Glory defeated Melbourne
Victory 2-1 at ME Bank Stadium tonight.
Jelic, formerly with German Bundlesiga side Energie Cottbus, scored the game's opener in the 4th
minute after Naum Sekulovski's cross into the box was headed to Mile Sterjovski, whose shot
squeezed through Victory keeper Glen Moss.

Firstly, the Glory have stitched up Brazilian midfielder Amaral and it looks like he will come
straight into the matchday squad for the Victory game.
