Barcelona have just whupped Al Sadd 4-0 in the second Club World Cup semi-final in Yokohama (Adriano, Adriano, Keita and Maxwell if you're interested we'll try and track down some highlights later), but the Japanese jolly has been soured somewhat by a nasty injury to David Villa, who split his tibia in twain five minutes before half-time.

Great news came today from all places, Twitter!

Captain Carles Puyol announced via his personal Twitter page that he is finally returning to action following a three month hiatus due to a knee injury.

Puyol has been sidelined since May, missing out on the clubs entire summer tour and the first La Liga match of the season.

I don't want to turn this blog into Barcelona blog, however, we are witnessing one of the greatest teams in the history of football, if not the best of all of them, and I don't think I am exaggerating.

Familar Foes: Scattered and unorganized thoughts during what seems like the 700th Clásico of 2011

Okay, let's do something unbecoming and lead this off with a confession. This is not going to be the sort of organized, edited, well-considered missive that I assume the Barcaloco readership has come to expect from me.

I am in Washington D.C. for the Barcelona v Manchester United match on Saturday. Tonight both teams had a practices that were open to the middle and fans.

It was really cool to watch Barcelona practice. Completely different exercises than what Man Utd went through. Carlos Puyol (looking a bit heavy) did not practice, but he did sign autographs for the fans.

Here's photo of Russell Simmons and Maxwell in one of the skyboxes at the All Star game and it pretty much sums up the scene in the suite level last night at Red Bull Arena: moneyed people much more famous than you or I with Blackberries and wine glasses at the ready. Oh and models. Lots of models.

FC Barcelona opened their 2011 pre-season with a rather entertaining goalless draw against Croatian side Hajduk Split. As expected Guardiola started with two different side in each half. The first half saw majority of Barca B players start along with the likes of Keita, Afellay and Villa.

Last summer, the Catalan calendar was altered forever - a small entryhas been made to mark the annual pursuit of a Catalan boy trapped in London (Quite funny isn't it?). The festival starts somearound teh first week of June and ends towards the end of August. Surprisingly this festival is coinciding with the European summer tarnsfer markets date.

News leaked on Sunday night from Sporting Gijon that they had reached an agreement with FC Barcelona for the tranfer of left-back Jose Angel.

The reported deal would include compensation around 4 million euros and would also include a Barcelona B player sent on loan.

Saturday tuned out to be a bad night for FC Barcelona as their seven month unbeaten streak in La Liga came to an end at the hands of Real Sociedad.

The 1-2 loss for Barcelona was the least of their problems because during the match they lost two more defenders due to injury.

Adriano injures hamstring in Copa del Rey Final

FC Barcelona defender Adriano will be sidelined for up to four weeks following a hamstring injury he suffered in yesterdays Copa del Rey loss to Real Madrid.

Adriano had suffered a light hamstring injury this past weekend when the club faced Real Madrid at the Bernabéu.

Carrying a 5-1 lead from the first leg, the biggest worry for Guardiola could be complecency creeping among his wards. He will be without the service of Iniesta, who is suspended for this leg but otherwise have taken almost all available players to Ukraine. Iniesta could definitely do well with some deserving rest and most probably we can expect Guardiola to rest more players.

Ok, this was supposed to be a walk in the aprk with a big scoreline. But it turned out in the end as a huge struggle. FC Barcelona looked completely out of focus and had to comeback from a goal down in this match against the bottom placed team in La Liga. In the end we managed to secure the three points and keep the eight point cushion going into the "El Clasico" at the Bernebeu.

Ok, tomorrow Almeria visits the Camp Nou. I am just trying to remind you that, Its no wonder that everyones focus is alreday on the Clasico at the Bernebeu. But we have a task on hand tomorrow, before we can think about our Eternal Rivals. Considering the fact that nobody expected Sporting to win at Bernebeu, it would be foolish to consider that we are going to win tomorrow by just turning up.

FC Barcelona thrashes Shaktar Donetsk to take a firm step to Semi-Final

FC Barcelona has taken a firm step to set up an El Clasico clash in this season's Champions League semi-final with the demolition of Shaktar Donetsk at Camp Nou. Iniesta, Alves, Keita, Pique and Xavi scored for Barca in a very thrilling 5-1 victory against the Ukranian Champions.
