A Day of Fury in Brazilian Football

As you're probably aware, Brazilian football (CBF and CONMEBOL for that matter) have no respect for the international break. So two matches took place in Brazil on Wednesday night one for Copa Sudamericana and one for the Brasileiro. And it was enough for the biggest collective nervous breakdown, I've ever seen.

Until the 32nd started, things looked dull for Palmeiras. There was enormous pressure and the fear that the team had just lost the Brasileiro. But after the last mid-week round of Brasileirao, things changed again. Palmeiras won and all direct rivals, but one, lost precious points. With that, the hopes of Palmeiras fans have been renewed.

Brasileiro: Sao Paulo Looses the Rope; Ronaldo Protagonist Again

Four regional derbies took place for the 12th round of Campeonato Brasileiro.

In the derby of desperation, Sao Paulo and Santos battled to see who had the less horrifying side. And Sao Paulo won 2-1, with two goals by striker Washington.

In the Curitiba derby, Atletico-PR and Coritiba also fought to see who has the worst team.

Campeonato Brasileiro: Surviving a Hang Over

The 9th round of Campeonato Brasileiro was all about surviving a bad hang over. And most did it.

After being eliminated at home from the semis of Copa Libertadores, Gremio honored its nickname of "immortal". With 11 minutes, the two forwards from Argentina had scored 3 goals - Maxi Lopes (2) and Herrera (1).

Libertadores: Cruzeiro in the Final

Cruzeiro reached the final of Copa Libertadores after a 2 goals draw against Gremio. Gremio played at home, but in 4 minutes (between the 34th and the 38th minutes) the visitors scored twice and buried the dreams of the home team.

After the final of Copa do Brasil and semi of the Libertadores, the joke that goes around in Brazil is this:

Player Detained for Racism in the Copa Libertadores Again

After Cruzeiro's 3-1 victory over Gremio, Maxi Lopes from Gremio was detained by two police officers. The accusation: racism. Cruzeiro's Elicarlos accused the Argentinean forward of calling him "macaco" (monkey). The term is usually used in Argentina when trying to offend a Brazilian.

During the match, the two players had an argument.

Brasileirão: It’s Only Over When It’s Over

Is it too late for the report on the 7th round of Brasileirão? Well, better later than never was the motto of the weekend in the tournament. 5 out of 10 matches were decided in the final moments.

Newcomer Santo Andre kept the good campaign with a 2-1 victory over Sport. The winning goal was scored by defender Marcel with 3 minutes into the second-half's stoppage time.

Libertadores: No Goals, One Out, One In

Palmeiras and Gremio played the second leg of the Copa Libertadores quarter finals.

The first in Montevideo, visiting Nacional. The second receiving Caracas in Porto Alegre.

The two controlled the first-half. The victory seemed close for the two.

One, Palmeira, had no time.
