Jack McInerney scored in the US U-23 team's 1–1 draw with the USMNT. McInerney, Amobi Okugo,
and Freddy Adu started the first half. Zac MacMath and Sheanon Williams started the second
half.
John Hackworth says of Tom Brandt, the Union's first pick in the Supplemental Draft, "We wanted
to get a quality player in the back and we feel like we did that with Tom Brandt.
Securing victory over Slovenia was nice. And scoring three goals was even better, but until
World Cup Qualification begins, the results still do not matter. Rather, it is the performance of
individuals and how they help to shape the team's formation and tactics that are most important to
evaluate as the pieces come together for Jurgen Klinsmann's US National Team.
By Jon Levy I'm going to be really nice to Jurgen Klinsmann and describe his first six matches in
charge as "underwhelming." Far more severe adjectives could be applied, especially after the
disappointing performance against France. Alexei Lalas nailed it, as he often does, in calling the
team out for not even attempting to rise [.
For those looking to spot Americans in action overseas, check the Europa League—it's
televised, great teams abound and, well, there are Americans, too. The elusive soccer grail, as it
were. Europa League matches offer rare chances to see national team expats competing against
high-caliber opponents on a real live TV.
by Dru Boyer The Yanks Abroad returned to Europa League play on Thursday with a vengeance ... not
a single Yanks' squad lost a match. It was a pretty decent Thursday, in fact the Yanks were 7-2-0
in the matches (Dominic Cervi and Brad Friedel did not dress for Celtic and Tottenham,
respectively.) The Player of the Week honor goes [.

football brings with it all things good in this world...soccer, NFL, college football, and here in
the Bluegrass State, college basketball preseason. I'm really looking to adopt an EPL side this
season, I've remained neutral for too [.

Judging from the reaction on Twitter, last night's Supporters Summit was a great success. Check
out our report and look for Earl Gardner's photo essay later today.
The Union Dues has a report of their own.
One of the results of the summit will make Twitter followers happy: Sebastien Le Toux will join
Twitter next week.

John Hackworth, again filling in on the sidelines for Peter Nowak, said after the game, "I think
frustration and disappointment are the two biggest feelings we have right now. We feel we deserved
three points in that game."
Sheanon Williams said, "We gave up a goal in the 85th minute when we had the chance to go up two
and lock the game up.
The P2010 Index is a ranking system based on player ratings assigned by some of the
country's top soccer sites and journalist. These ratings are then weighted by strength of opponent,
match significance, venue, and recent form. (It's all explained here.) In this post we are simply
looking at the average (unweighted) ratings from the Gold Cup quarter-final match vs.
1. The US will be focused on winning tonight, as scooped by Soccer By Ives
here. Good to know! I was slightly worried they'd be more focused on losing or drawing.
2. After Saturday night's performance against Panama, there will be a handful of
changes to the lineup.
1. Bob Bradley will field the exact same lineup that he sent out against Canada. What's more,
two of his three subs will be the same Edu and Wondolowski. The one change is that Eric
Lichaj will get a run at left back in the second half.
Correct on the lineup, incorrect on the subs.

By Dr. Raf Crowley No need for a clever introduction or a series of disclaimers on this one.
Let's get right into the USA v. Canada match analysis: To me, despite the 2-0 scoreline, the match
was frustrating to watch. It was very much a page out of an MLS-style playbook – one team gets

By Jason Kuenle Over the weekend, Jason Davis and Jared DuBois discussed the merits of having the
Spain match three days before the start of the Gold Cup on The American Soccer Show. In doing so,
they inspired my Devil's Advocate side. In reflecting on what Spain brought to the table and what
possible benefit it could have on for a US team in preparation for the Gold Cup, I was left with
this thought; more than anything, playing Spain was a test of decision making.
1. Bob Bradley will go with a 4-4-2. The forwards will be the same as the
Spain game, but there will be big changes in the midfield and back line. Landon
Donovan, Clint Dempsey, and Michael Bradley will replace
Robbie Rogers, Sacha Kljestan, and Maurice Edu
(meaning Jones gets the start).
1. Bob Bradley will roll out his patented 3-Defensive Mid formation. The starters will be
Maurice Edu, Michael Bradley, and Jermaine Jones. The US will be losing in the second half, at
which point Bradley will opt for a more "offensive" formation by putting Sacha Kljestan in as a
replacement DM for Edu.
by Dru Boyer The following is the third in a four part series comparing the 2011 Gold Cup rosters
of the two "giants of CONCACAF". Midfielders The Yanks: Michael Bradley (Aston Villa), Maurice Edu
(Rangers), Clint Dempsey (Fulham), Landon Donovan (L.A. Galaxy), Jermaine Jones (Blackburn), Sacha
Kljestan (Anderlecht), Robbie Rogers (Columbus Crew), Freddy Adu (Rizespor, [.
By Neil W. Blackmon The bad news: the United States lost 4-0 on home soil today to the European and
World Champions and for very little of the ninety minute match did the Yanks look even remotely
like they belonged on the field with what was essentially a B-PLUS version of La Furia Roja. The

by Dru Boyer Ladies and Gentlemen, we have reached the conclusion of Yanks Abroad the 2010/2011
edition. It has been a record-setting season for some, disappointing for others, and ending in
relegation for one...well... two if Eddie Johnson stays at Preston, but I don't see that
happening. The Gold Cup roster has been released (welcome [.
Bob Bradley announced his roster selection for the Gold Cup today. Full squad is below. Notable
exclusions include Timothy Chandler and Alejandro Bedoya. Apparently they wanted to give Chandler a
rest, but otherwise would have selected him. Bedoya apparently got passed up for Robbie
Rodgers.

We'll know on Monday who Bob Bradley picks for the US National team for this summer's Gold Cup
and for the upcoming friendly against Spain. I figured today would be as good of a day as ever to
throw out my 23-man roster that I think Bradley could select come Monday.
by Dru Boyer With seasons all across Europe coming to a close, many Americans abroad were battling
for a chance at Champions League or Europa League births. Some made their dreams come true, and
others will have to wait for next year. There are still some matches to play in the Premiership
this weekend, but [.
With the Gold Cup drawing near, and Bob Bradley's roster announcement impending, most American
soccer pundits are writing about who Bob Bradley will or should call up for the tournament. It's
time for us to do the same...sort of.
As you know if you read these pages with any regularity, we here at Project 2010 are mildly
obsessed with our little creation, the P2010 Index, an aggregation of the soccer media's ratings of
US players in international matches (it's all explained here) .

By Jon Levy Royal Wedding kicked off the weekend but the soccer should be nearly as exciting as a
Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen dress (I googled that, I promise), so let's just dive right in to
your Americanized Weekend Preview and viewing guide. MLS This week's marquee MLS matchup pits buddy
forwards Teal Bunbury [.
by Dru Boyer Very limited action for the Yanks Abroad this week, however the EPL featured a couple
Yank doubles. Until the magic of Wednesday night's CONCACAF Champions League Final, I was going
to make Mo Edu my player of the week for putting in 180 minutes in Glasgow and propelling the Gers
back to [.
By Dr. Raf Crowley Last week, fellow writer Jon Levy wrote an excellent piece chronicling MB90's
career nosedive since his transfer to Villa earlier this year. Jon seems to take the following
approach in his argument: Villa has a glut of central midfielders with similar skillsets to
MB90's. According to Jon, Bradley really was never [.
By Dr. Raf Crowley For those of you that have been living in a cave, the USMNT squared off against
Argentina and Paraguay this week. The events were enough to make a "tactical analyst" such as me
salivate. Let's get right into what I saw over the two games: After the first match (Argentina),
fellow [.
By Neil W. Blackmon Two friendlies with nearly all the "A" team regulars and there is a great deal
to analyze and flesh out. Let's dive right in with five final thoughts and lingering questions
after the USMNT's 1-1 draw with Argentina and 1-0 defeat at the hands of a visually painful but
mercilessly effective [.
By Jon Levy Coming off a mixed performance but quality result on Saturday night against Argentina,
the Yanks will look to put it all together Tuesday night in Nashville against another good South
American team. Paraguay just put in an uncharacteristically defensively deficient performance
against Mexico, so they'll also look to get back on the [.
by Dru Boyer It is time for some spring friendlies, and I am here to give you a position by
position analysis of the recent form of the Yanks abroad on the USMNT roster for the matches
against Argentina and Paraguay. Goalkeepers All three of the Americans protecting the net are
currently playing off [.
By Neil W. Blackmon In the wake of a busy midweek featuring more MLS roster-shuffling, the return
of Charlie Davies and of course Champions League and Europa tilts, we have an FA Cup weekend in
England highlighting a less than full, but still juicy, slate of soccer action across the pond.
Everyone that comes to [.
Maurice Edu returned from injury to score the final goal as Rangers hammered Hamilton Academic
yesterday. Edu had been down since November, but he has featured regularly for the Scottish side
this season and should be the American every team scrambles to pick up.
The MLS Supplemental Draft will help teams fill out their reserve team rosters.
