Después de dejar tirado al Partizán, el bueno de Lothar Matthäus no tuvo fortuna con la
selección de Hungría y fracasó en su intento (nada sencillo, todo sea dicho) de llevarla al
Mundial 2006. Pese a sus discretos resultados, la federación le mantuvo en su puesto hasta el
final de la fase de clasificación en 2005, e incluso el gobierno llegó a ofrecerle la
nacionalidad.

Que para ser un gran entrenador no hace falta haber despuntado al máximo nivel como jugador es
algo que hace tiempo que quedó meridianamente claro. Y que haber sido un gran jugador no es
garantía de éxito en los banquillos, también es de sobra conocido. Lo triste es ver que una
estrella a la que creías perfectamente capacitada para triunfar desde la banda se estrella una y
otra vez, valga la rebuznancia, y aún así sigue disfrutando de unas oportunidades que están
vedadas para la inmensa mayoría de quienes nunca pudieron pasar de Tercera.

1990, had strong argument with Saudon Kawari and Jazeera Sports Channel staff using the F word and
loud voice.
Jazeera had technical problem with the German interpretor and Matthaus only participated for few
minutes.

My favourite strip is the Sampdoria home kit of 1990-92. There are actually two slightly
different kits, as the 1991-92 version has the Scudetto shield on the left breast following Samp's
Serie A title win. However, it seems churlish to distinguish between the shirt worn winning the
Scudetto and the shirt that recognises that triumph.
