We are moving forward today in our expansion draft coverage. So far we've knocked out both the
Fire and Chivas USA, today we stay out west with a look at the Colorado Rapids. Now this is a club
that may go through a bit of a change this winter because of their collapse late in the season.

When it comes to conversations about the most dysfunctional clubs in Major League Soccer, the
New York Red Bulls often tend to dominate the conversations, but one club that needs to start being
discussed is the Colorado Rapids.
The Rapids downright imploded in the final six weeks of the MLS season to miss out on the
playoffs for a third straight year.

Missouri State Bears, Johannes Demarzi
The Missouri State men's soccer team (9-3-2, 4-1-1) ran its win streak to four games with a 1-0

Senior Johannes Demarzi, this week's Missouri Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week,
got the Bears on the board in the 62nd minute with a goal off of a free kick.

Even if Real Salt Lake win in Toronto (unlikely, but you never know), the
Colorado
Rapids can still clinch a playoff position tonight with a win in Dallas if New England
fail to win their game. The beauty is that
Gary Smith will know the results of
both the Salt Lake and New England games before the kickoff tonight against FC Dallas.

Jeff Nelson of the Colorado School of Mines' men's soccer team was named Rocky Mountain Athletic
Conference offensive player of the week.
Nelson, a senior forward from Laramie, scored four goals and tallied two assists to help Mines
to a pair of victories last weekend. In Mines' 4-3 win at CSU-Pueblo on Friday, Nelson scored a
pair of goals, including the winner, and added an assist.

It may have been a quiet week for the Rapids but all the noise from the other MLS games has left
their task very clear. A win in Dallas and they could be in the playoffs. Such a scenario will take
place for sure if the Rapids win in Texas and Real Salt Lake fail to beat New York tomorrow night,
something they haven't done in the past 10 games against the Red Bulls apparently.

On October 3rd 1777 the American revolutionary army under George Washington began its march to
Germantown to face the British. On October 3rd 2009 the Revolution under Steve Nicol will march
into Commerce City to face the British-led Rapids. The battle of Germantown was a victory for the
British, let's hope history repeats itself tomorrow night.

A short turnaround from Wednesday's night disappointment to our next game tomorrow night, a short
road trip to Kansas City. The Rapids will have a depleted lineup after learning today that Jacob
Peterson tore his ACL in Wednesday night's game. Game time is at 6:30pm and the game will be
televised on Altitude.

After the draw last Friday against San Jose the Rapids get right back at it tomorrow
night...against San Jose. The Earthquakes are in town for the second half of the home-and-home
series. This is the 'game in hand' the Rapids have been holding for most of the season, so a win
here would be huge, while a loss would leave us in right in the middle of the playoff battle we've
been trying to avoid.

Imagine the array of emotions for Ryan Johnson on Friday night. The San Jose Earthquakes striker
scored his team's only goal in the eighth minute of a 1-1 tie against the Colorado Rapids. Then the
24-year-old committed the foul deep into extra time that produced a penalty kick for Colorado and
the Rapids' only goal.

The
Colorado Rapids traveled to California yesterday to prepare for tonight's game
against San Jose before, bizarrely, playing the same team again next Wednesday at DSG Park. What an
important game tonight's game is. After losing at Toronto to record their fourth straight away
defeat, the Rapids know that a point tonight against a struggling team will be the least they can
come away with before, hopefully, picking up three points at home next week.

There aren't many Major League Soccer teams that can be considered save in the MLS playoff race.
Other than the Columbus Crew, Houston Dynamo and Chicago Fire, the rest of the teams with serious
playoff dreams have serious work to do in the remaining five weeks of the season.
That's where Six-Pointers come in, matches that feature two teams in the thick of the race.

A very unusual Friday night game this week as the Rapids find out if they know the way to San Jose.
This is the first matchup between the teams this week, with a second coming up in less than a week
as both teams will head back to Denver after the match. The Earthquakes are pretty much out of the
playoff race already and are looking ahead to 2010 so these are 3 points the Rapids could pick up
on the road.

Well, they tried. A banged up Colorado Rapids gave it all they got against a Dwayne De
Rosario-inspired Toronto and almost came up with the goods in Canada. Instead, they return home
defeated for a few days to regroup before a vital home and away series against San Jose.
Conor Casey, with his 13th goal of the season, equalized early in the second half
after some rubbish defending from Toronto made Kosuke Kimura's floating cross much more dangerous
than it should have been and
Mike Holody, in only his second MLS game, notched a
crucial goal very late on to give the Rapids some hope but it wasn't to be.

Players can be a little forgetful of the details and the Colorado Rapids are no different. On a
whiteboard in the locker room, they are this week being urged not to forget their passports as they
travel to Canada. More tellingly, there is also a note on that same board that reads "If you are
healthy and not suspended, you are traveling.

The wounded Rapids, missing 4 starters, got a boost by the unexpected availability of Conor Casey
last night. They took advantage of his league-leading 12th goal to get a 1-0 win over the visitors
from Canada (eh!) and move up the ladder in their pursuit of a playoff spot.
The first half was made up of a good deal of bad soccer, but mainly controlled by the Rapids.

Greetings from a sunny Chicago. I should be looking out on Lake Michigan basking in a great win for
the Rapids but a crazy last 20 minutes put paid to that. The team is a few blocks away no doubt
also musing on the one that got away. I shouldn't think there is much happy conversation over the
scrambled eggs this morning.

Robinson caps off Chicago's remarkable comeback in final 20 minutes
BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. - Facing a two-goal deficit beyond the 70th minute, the Chicago Fire were simply
vying to get back into the game. But they did more than just that as they scored three unanswered
goals, capped off by a Dasan Robinson tally in second-half stoppage time, as the Fire defeated the
Colorado Rapids, 3-2, on Sunday at Toyota Park.

Random thoughts and ideas from the Colorado Rapids' shameful 3-2 loss against the Fire on Sunday
evening in Chicago.
OMAR'S FIRST GOAL: Two things went right on Omar Cummings' goal in the first
five minutes of the second half. First, Jamie Smith's shot was difficult enough that Chicago
goalkeeper Jon Busch couldn't handle it cleanly.

According to an email sent by Coach John Leamy at Missouri State, it looks like Zach Thornton's
injury during the MLS All-Star game will in fact lead to recent Missouri State graduate
Lance Parker getting his first start in a league match for his Chivas USA squad.
Coincidentally, he'll be facing Colorado which will also feature an MSU Bear between the pipes!

The Crew defense dammed up the Rapids offense and the difference in the game was a couple of inches
between the two keepers. Late in the first half Cory Gibbs committed an unnecessary (and
admittedly, somewhat ticky-tack from what we could see on TV) foul near the top of the box. Chad
Marshall lined up the free kick and put it on net.

[08:29] JSpitzberg: i have NO interest in MLS anymore
That's how I started my converstation with Neal this morning. And I really don't. With the

use to bridge the gap between English seasons.
