American Soccer News at related • 0 views

Having won a hard fought match on Sunday against FC Dallas and with another big match against the Vancouver Whitecaps looming on Saturday, Los Angeles Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena sent out the reserves for Wednesday's CONCACAF Champions League matchup against the Puerto Rico Islanders.

The move paid off, as goals from four different players enabled the Galaxy to collect three points in its final home match of the competition and thus sit in first place in the group courtesy of a 4-0 win over the Islanders at the Home Depot Center.

Toronto FC Preview: Injuries & International Absences Plague the Reds

There aren't a lot of stats Portland Timbers fans can point to these days to make them feel better about the next fixture on the schedule. But here's one: as a head coach (interim or otherwise), Gavin Wilkinson has never lost to Toronto FC.

Meaningless though the game might have been, that 4-1 win in October 2007 helped ease the pain that had lingered from the heartbreaking loss to the Atlanta Silverbacks the previous month, which denied Portland the opportunity to face the Seattle Sounders for the USL Championship.

Logan Pause injury again raises depth issues for Chicago Fire

On most teams, regardless of sport, there are players who have a tremendous impact without racking up impressive statistics. They make the players around them better. Only when they're gone can their impact be truly measured.

Is Chicago Fire midfielder Logan Pause an example of such a player?

Two of the more futile attacks in MLS hardly lit up the scoreboard at the Home Depot Center Wednesday afternoon, but one did just enough to secure a massive three points, while the other remains left searching for answers.

Miller Bolanos scored off a rebound in the 16th minute to carry Chivas USA to a 1-0 victory over the Portland Timbers.

Western Conference Week 22: Cascadia Cup, Round Two

A lot has happened since the last time I wrote one of these (vacations and such), but let's just focus on two key things.

Firstly, FC Dallas has gone on a winning streak that is starting to look like a serious run at the playoffs. I know -- who would have thought? But suddenly the breaks are starting to go their way, and the quality many of us thought they had at the beginning of the season is finally starting to materialize.

On Fabian Castillo's performance: It's a combination of three things. He's maturing into the player we all hoped he would be. He's got tremendous speed, quickness and he's creating some really, really dangerous situations. The second thing is I think it was a good matchup for him. The third thing is he really wants to do well for Oscar [Pareja].
