Serie A Talk 22 October @ 08:26 AM EST
I think it is fair to say that AC Milan's start to the season has been less than impressive to
say the least. However, victory over Roma at the weekend propelled them into the top half of the
table and then last night the Rossonerri did the unthinkable and beat Real Madrid at the Bernabeu
in the Champions League.

David Beckham's first home game back with the Galaxy was (almost) everything you could ask for
from a preseason (for Milan) friendly that was more about the show than the result and the money
AEG was making from its prize soccer asset.
Was it a coincidence David Beckham was playing against his former and likely future club and
looked more interested performing for the Galaxy Sunday night than he did for half of last
season?

I'd say the boo to cheer ratio was 60:40 when David Beckham jogged out to warm-up.
The Riot Squad have unveiled some apt signs for the occasion including "Hey Becks! Here before
you, here after you, here despite you," "23 Repent" and "Go home fraud 23"
(Updated: It's about 13 minutes before kickoff; the signs are gone, no doubt removed by AEG.

Oguchi Onyewu became only the 2nd American to ever sign with an Italian Serie A club as he
agreed to terms with AC Milan. Onyewu had become a free agent after his contract with Belgian club
Standard Liege ended after this season and was actively looking at offers from clubs in the top
European leagues.

The Prime Minister stated that Milan had the best team in Italy even without
Kaka and new signings. This is nothing special when it comes from someone like Berlusconi, but the
public in Italy believes that this is Milan's weakest team in Berlusconi's
23-year reign.

The firesale continues at AC. And Silvio Berlusconi has effectively taken over the coaching
reins. There is no sign of Leonardo or Adriano Galliani.
Andrea Pirlo is on the transfer block. Massimo Ambrosini might be gone if his year extension is
not approved. It gives the impression of a club in serious financial distress as Berlusconi
repeatedly stressed the state of club accounts as responsible for the present predicament.

The penultimate round of calcio italiano was action packed as only 2 matches had less than 2 goals
combined from both teams. At this point the only drama will be what team will finish 2nd and what
team will be the last to be relegated.
Juventus snapped a 7-game winless streak with their 3-0 road win against Siena.

It's time for another post of beautiful goals from the peninsula. There were 32 goals scored
this weekend, and here we'll have a selection of the best of week 36.
Simone Perrotta vs. Catania - Mirko Vucinic does all the work to win the ball near Catania's
area, and Perrotta makes a perfect run (which he is famous for) and heads home Vucinic's perfect
cross.

"Zeru tituli" is a code word in both Inter and AC Milan's history.
It refers to Massimo Ambrosini's two year old Inter taunt when AC won the 2007 CL finals.
On March 3rd, Mourinho threw the taunt back as he said the Rossoneri would win no titles more
than two months before the end of the season.

AC Milan star does his best to get impaled on a camera tripod One of the main talking points of
yesterday's Milan derby was David Beckham limping off with an injury, but his team-mate Massimo
Ambrosini was lucky not to cause himself some damage after diving head-first over the advertising
hoardings.

Could this really be possible? Could David Beckham really be the missing piece of the AC Milan
puzzle, the piece that so far prevented the Rossoneri from a achieving a consistent string of away
victories? Sunday evening's match vs. Lazio certainly seems to indicate so, and it was only the
umpteenth game in a series [.

Simply awesome weekend of football and what an incredible goal fest with 41
in total, that alone should put the myth to bed about which first-tier league is more attack
oriented. Juventus win against AC Milan and some unlikely candidates got on the score sheet
with Georgio Chiellini and Massimo Ambrosini hitting the back netting.

"Anti-Inter". A big phrase for Italian newspapers this week-end, as indeed Sunday's
Juventus vs. AC Milan presented itself as a revealing showdwown. One to determine the Nerazzurri's
real contender for the Scudetto race, one to decide historical bragging rights between two teams
who, in the past two decades, have won more Serie A champions titles [.

AC Milan added another trophy this preseason defeating Juventus 4-1 to win the Berlusconi
trophy. Goals were scored for Milan by Marek Jankulovski, Filippo Inzaghi, and 2 by Massimo
Ambrosini. Not only did Juventus lose this game, but Giorgio Chiellini was injured in a
collision with Gennaro Gattuso, and will likely be out for at least a month.

Sunday was a sad day for Italian soccer, as one of the most charismatic club presidents of Serie A

Italian sports newspapers Gazzetta dello Sport rated the Azzurri players at the end of their
European adventure. Along with Gigi Buffon, positive scores were obtained by Chiellini and Grosso.
All the strikers flunked the test, while some midfielders could have done better. The overall form
however, was never great.

After a match like this, one would normally do well to take a night's rest to carefully analyze the situation, see what went wrong, and what can be done to correct it.
