It's been less than 24 hours since the team arrived in Panama City, and already there's been a lot

As you have been reading, the team has been gathering every morning for a 30-minute run before
breafkast. When you add up players, coaches and staff, the number totals about 30 people running.
As a result, they have to be divided into two groups.
One of the groups Friday morning was led by Ivan Pierra, the head ATC for the National Team, and
the other by Andreas Herzog.
U.S. Men's National Team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann is closing in on adding another big piece
to the coaching staff, as U.S. Soccer has made contact with former Austrian international Andreas
Herzog after receiving permission from the Austrian Federation last week.
Herzog would be bring a wealth of playing and coaching experience, having earned 106 appearances
and scoring 24 goals for Austria, making him their most-capped player in history.

South Africa coach Pitso Mosimane has committed one of the great blunders in modern football
history! The national team played their final game in African Cup of Nations qualifying last
Saturday thinking they only needed 1 point to qualify because they held a wide margin in the goal
differential tie breaker if 2 other potential teams won their games.

Anecdotally, we can all see that something is surely missing, that extra sliver of quality that

Klinsmann & Vasquez: Back together again
My concern with Klinsmann is exactly the one lots of commentators have already cited he's not
really a tactician, and it was Jogi Löw who did all that heavy lifting with the German National
Team. And Martin Vasquez, who went from being an assistant at MLS's Chivas club to being
Klinsmann's assistant at Bayern (and came back for a short tenure as Chivas's head coach), isn't
really a tactician either but he seems to impress folks since he got the Youth Development Director
position with Real Salt Lake post-Chivas.
Since 2007, the U.S. Soccer Development Academy has strived to impact the Men's National Team –
never has the program's influence been more felt than the four-day camp leading into Wednesday's
match against rival Mexico. The Academy is represented both on the field, with two former players
participating in the camp, and on the sidelines, where Klinsmann's staff has a wealth of experience
at the elite youth level.

Even with the recent change in FIFA regulations regarding the change of associations, it's
exceedingly rare to find a player who has represented two different countries at the full

are talking about long odds indeed.

Ridge Mahoney of Soccer America writes of the task at hand for new MLS coaches-

Theslof joined the Chivas USA coaching staff when Martin Vasquez became head coach last year

From the Chivas USA press release:
In his first season at Chivas USA, Theslof worked with the first team in scouting and

2011 while also adding oversight and evaluation of player development, especially at the youth

Martin Vasquez, who hired Gonzalez last January, was fired by the club in
