EPL Talk 19 November @ 10:05 AM EST

South Africa, the EPL surges back to action this weekend with an important fixture at Anfield.
That game is on ESPN in glorious high definition. Here's the entire TV schedule.
Now, on to the previews:

The news doing the rounds over the weekend involved the reported interest shown by Liverpool in
our top notch striker Eduardo and for some reason the miserly sum of £10m was repeatedly
mentioned, which is probably only sufficient to purchase one of his legs and not the rest of his
body.

Liverpool are ready to poach Eduardo from rivals Arsenal in a £10million deal.
The 26-year-old Croatian forward is unhappy that he has still to be offered improved terms at the
Emirates.
His contract has just over 18 months to run and that has alerted Rafa Benitez, who desperately
needs to strengthen his attacking options.

Apologies for the late nature of this blog, I'm moving house this week and having made the
slightly daft decision to do it all ourselves we're a little under the cosh. Expect sporadic
updates at best.

Most of the news in today's press regarding Arsenal, is not, in fact about Arsenal, but more
about the cave-men (and no doubt women and children) who are allegedly Birmingham supporters. I
can't say that I heard their chant about Martin Taylor after Ridgewell had felled Theo, but the
fact that Wenger felt strongly enough to brand them a disgrace means that they must have been quite
loud.

An unpredictable season took another twist this weekend as two challengers lost and another
could only draw as the season really starts to take shape.
I suppose we should be thankful for the Liverpool fan who threw the inflatable ball onto the
pitch for ensuring they lost at Sunderland, but from what I saw on Match of the Day on Saturday
night they really don't look that threatening without Gerrard and Torres in the side.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has slammed Birmingham's fans for chants which he
describes as 'atrocious'.
Blues fans sang 'There is only one Martin Taylor' after Liam Ridgewell had slid in hard on Theo
Walcott during Saturday's game at Emirates Stadium.

Facebook is just weird funny
You really can't argue with the title. Seriously you can't so don't even try.
As Arsenal return from the 2 week break with a good win if not spectacular over Alex McLeish's
Birmingham, some opposition fans chose to greet Liam Ridgewell's crunching tackle on Theo Walcott
with a distasteful chant of "there's only one Martin Taylor".

Speaking to many of my friends, there was the suggestion that Birmingham were no real enemy and
Saturday's match was just a routine three points. Not for me.
Birmingham are the masters of PR management. It is easy to forget that it wasn't just Eduardo's
injury that went against Arsenal on that fateful day at St.

I am sleepy this morning. And possibly a bit grumpy. I share no other traits with the rest of
the seven dwarves though. No, not even dopey.
Speaking of dopey how about those Birmingham fans? During the game on Saturday they sang
'There's only one Martin Taylor', to laud the man who broke Eduardo's leg.

by CARL ELDRIDGEÂ Real Madrid usually get their man when they come calling but not if the man in
question is Arsene Wenger. This morning's Sun tells us that AW has revealed he turned down big
bucks from Madrid because he wants to win the Champions League with the glorious Gunners.
And he admitted: "If we don't win a trophy in the next two years, it'll be my fault.

By CARL ELDRIDGE Brainless Liam Ridgewell must have watched re-runs of his Birmingham City
team-mate Martin Taylor's leg-breaking assault on Eduardo as preparation for his miserable side's
visit to Arsenal yesterday.
That is the only conclusion I can make after watching him cut through poor Theo Walcott in a
thuggish attempt to bully the speedster out of the game.

A lot has been said about today's meeting with Birmingham being the first since that fateful
day Eduardo had his leg shattered by Martin Taylor. Some say we owe them a hammering, which is true
from the point of view that we threw away three points after playing against ten men for 87
minutes, but less so for the 'tackle' itself.

by CARL EDLRIDGE Arsene Wenger has spoken about one of the most traumatic games in his career in
this morning's Sun, saying: "I feared Eduardo would never play again."
The redtop points out that Arsenal host Birmingham today, their first meeting since the St
Andrew's draw that wrecked the Gunners' 2007-08 title hopes.

Birmingham City boss Alex McLeish insists the infamous Eduardo leg break incident is long
forgotten, as the Blues prepare to meet Arsenal on Saturday some 20 months after the incident at St
Andrews.
Martin Taylor's horror tackle on Eduardo left the Croatian forward with a broken left fibula and an
open dislocation of his left ankle.

Which Gallas will show up?
Today see the visit of Birmingham to Ashburton Grove. The incident 2 seasons ago at St. Andrew's
will no doubt still rankles in the mind of all Arsenal fans. The Eduardo broken leg incident
brought about sad memories of that particular season. First for the bad injury that the Brazilian
suffered at the hand (or legs) of Martin Taylor but more importantly, it was the start of which
Arsenal lost the impetus for the Premier League title.

Right then, here go back into the thick of it. We've got football tomorrow and this is good. A
home game against Birmingham is a relatively nice way to get things going again after the Interlull
and there's some early team news.
Eduardo misses out on the chance for revenge against Birmingham as he remains out with his thigh
injury.

It is over.
There are those who claim the Interlull only truly ends when the real football begins but I
consider it done and dusted once the internationals are complete. And so they were last night. I
know Andrei Arshavin scored for Russia, and Aaron Ramsey's back held up enough for him to score for
Wales, but in terms of the rest our lads involvement last night I am clueless.

As the international week goes on, its time for me to look ahead to this weekends fixture at
home to Birmingham. One which I would usually refer to as "run of the mill" where by it doesn't
really excite me when I get up on Saturday morning to head off to the game.Â
I'm sure most people can relate that once you've been going "Up the Arse" for a period of time,
not every game is that exciting anymore and these sorts of games help fill the gaps between the big
matches.

This week Arsenal play yet another club whose ownership is unknown. It is the club of Martin
Taylor. It is an evil entity owned by Grandtop International Holdings, who are owned by.... Â

Virgin Islands.

It is with little fanfare that our Champions League campaign kicks off this season, which is
somewhat misguided since tonight's match is perhaps the toughest in the group.
And as Standard Liege's first foray into the competition, everyone connected with the club
players and fans alike will be up for this one like no other.

A great majority of the football world has grown used to laughing off Arsene
Wenger's dramatic remarks over major incidents in recent years. This is precisely why the
Arsenal manager was largely ignored when he labeled the accusations over
Gunners striker Eduardo's recent "dive" against
Celtic as a "witch-hunt".

Well, it looks as if Lee Bowyer has upset the Croatian Football Association. Following Bowyer's
tackle on Luka Modric during the match between Tottenham Hotspur and Birmingham City on Saturday,
which resulted in a broken leg for the Croatian international, the president of Hrvatski Nogometni
Savez (the Croatian Football Federation), Vlatko Markovic, has concluded that there is a conspiracy
amongst English clubs to injure Croatian players.

A sickening tackle on Eduardo more than 18 months ago leaves him a doorstep from a permanent end
to his career.
Clips of his mangled ankle with the bone protruding out is replayed again and again, evoking a
visceral reaction of horror and disgust that fails to lessen in intensity each time its shown.

AAAAHHHHHHHH I AM ARTUR BORUC AND THIS IS A LIST OF THINGS THAT MADE ME ANGRY THIS WEEK:
1. EDUARDO Ahem. I hope you're reading this, Eduardo. What you did in the match on Wednesday
wasn't very nice. Diving is not a very nice thing to do, Eduardo. Especially in a game of that
magnitude.

I think the first thing that needs to be said about yesterday's result is how much we clearly
missed Adebayor and Toure. It might have been eight with them and you know goal difference might
just be the difference between winning and losing this league. Wenger out.
But seriously, what a way to start the season.

Punishment should fit the crime.
The FA will consider the severity of injuries caused by rash tackles when dealing with
suspensions for red card offences next season.
The governing body say they will reduce or increase the length of bans depending on a number of
factors which include the intent shown by the tackler, the force of the challenge and any
subsequent injury.
