Since there are only Johnstone's Paint Trophy matches and FA Trophy Second Qualifying Round
replays this week, we thought it would be about the right time to have another "Video Of The Week"
and this, I have to say, is something rather special a complete episode of London Weekend
Television's "The Big Match" from April 1979.
Chivers with Bill Nicholson/From BBC Sport
Spurs and Southampton legend Martin Chivers joins us on the podcast. Among the topics discussed
are:
- His new autobiography
- His current hospitality work with Spurs
- His thoughts on Spurs potential new stadium
- What it took get noticed by Southampton
- Did the move to White Hart Lane help his prospects for making Alf Ramsey's England
squad?
The clue is in the title - the first all-action book on Spurs is imminent, and all lilywhite
fans are most warmly invited to pitch in.
A list of 20 fans' favourites is being compiled, and frankly, for a team as steeped in history
as ours, there just ain't enough room for everyone. Some names effortlessly pick themselves –
true Lane legends such as Blanchflower, Perryman, Mabbutt, Greaves and Bill Nick.
Which two would you select from Chivers, Peters, Waddle and Sheringham, as those who captured
the hearts and imaginations of Tottenham fans for what they did at White Hart Lane?
The compilation of the list of 20 Spurs Cult Heroes, for a book out next spring, may have been
fairly unscientific at times, but it has drawn on masses of personal opinions and
reminiscences.
Martin Chivers is one of the players to be featured in forthcoming book Spurs' Cult
Heroes, tracing the glorious history of Tottenham Hotspur FC by examining players who
achieved legendary status amongst us fans for what they did at the club.
AANP warmly invites you to leave any memories you may have of Chivers below.
