Colorado faced Chivas USA in a scrimmage at the HDC today. A late Qunicy Amarikwa goal from a
Steven Emory assist gave the burgundy boys a 1-0 win. Of course its preseason so its meaningless
but wins are always better than losses. The starting XI (trialists makred with a *):
Angulo* - Cummings - MullanLarentowicz - Castrillon - MastroeniZapata* - Marshall - Wynne -
KimuraPickens
After subs the team finished with the the following lineup:
Cascio - Amarikwa - AkpanThompson - LaBauex - EmoryFreeman - Palguta - Guido* - AbabioJoyce
Guido is a local player playing with the team while they're in California.
The Rapids played their first friendly of the preseason today against the Ventura County Fusion at
Oxnard College in California. The game was a scoreless draw and with no coverage its hard to draw
much of anything from the result, but here are the starting lineups for each half (* denotes
trialist):
1st Half:
Cascio - Amarikwa - AkpanThompson - Nane - LaBauexFreeman - Marshall - Palguta - Zapata*Ceus
2nd Half:
Angulo* - Archer* - ArmstrongThompson - Nane - Guido*Huazo* - Marshall - Palguta - AbabioJoyce
Obviously this was a game for some of the reserves to try to make their mark in competing for a
starting spot.
It's only a matter of time that the Indianapolis Colts let Peyton Manning walk. Since they have
the No. 1 pick in the 2012 NFL Draft and will select Andrew Luck, the Colts will let go of Manning
and go in a different direction.
With that in mind, where will Manning end up? Well, first of all, since he's dealing with a neck
injury, there's a chance he will retire.

Two small pieces of news before we get on with the Player Of The Year discussion:
*Steve Nicol turned down the Rapids interview request. There was some talk about him being
uncomfortable with the environment here, but all along I thought getting Nicol out of Boston, where
he's been for 13 years, would be a long shot.

Ok, I am in a strange place mentally today.
Imagine that Toronto FC had instantly become the Barcelona of MLS and everything they had ever done
had turned into football gold. Expansion draft day arrives for Montreal and their leadership says
we must pick up all the ex-TFC players that we can, since their castoffs might still have some of
the Toronto magic to them.

Last night the soccer gods turned away from the Rapids. I'd say they were too busy with golden boy
Tebow, but he might have had a worse day than the Rapids. As a Seahawks fan I feel no sympathy. :D
A combination of a lack of offense and bad luck really destroyed Colorado's hopes of repeating.
The home side controlled play for most of the first half, but as we've seen in recent games, they
could not convert that into goals.

Troy Evans is quick and shifty on the football field. Off the football field, the Marshall wide
receiver isn't as smooth. Troy Evans was arrested this week after allegedly going on a robbing
spree on Sunday. In total, there are believed to be at least four separate incidents in which Troy
Evans committed armed robbery.

Just over 21,000 saw Villa earn their place in the 3rd round of the Carling Cup the hard way
thanks to a late goal each from Eric Lichaj (80′) and Nathan Delfouneso (88′) from the
bench.
It's a game I've yet to see anything from first hand, but it sounds like we dominated the game
pretty much in the manner you'd expect over a struggling League Two side, but were frustrated by
some fine goalkeeping from 20 year old loanee, David Cornell.
Philadelphia Setup: The Union set up in their accustomed 4-4-2 with a diamond midfield. Miglioranzi
played in the holding midfield spot with Carroll out injured. Daniel played wide left and Mapp
played wide right. Paunovic played in the center behind the two strikers. Le Toux and Mwanga were
the two strikers.
The Rapids continued their dominance over the East with another win over the current Eastern
leaders. The Rapids are 5-10-1 against the East, with the only loss being in Columbus and 3 of the
5 wins being over teams who were leading the East at the time of the game. That seems appropriate
for the defending Eastern Conference Champions.

to the semifinals where they will face Mexico on Wednesday in Houston. After dominating Group A,
Mexico needed two second-half goals to put Guatemala out of the tournament. In the early game,
Honduras went ahead three minutes into the second-half at the New Meadowlands when Jerry Bengtson
scored.

Multiple chances never materialized into a goal as Toronto FC and the Colorado Rapids battled to
a scoreless draw at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Denver.
It was an back-and-forth game early on but neither team could threaten the opposition's
goal.
