Palermo Swedish striker Agon Mehmeti was one of Palermo's marquee signings in this window. The
striker has been hailed as both the new Cavani and Ibrahimovic before signing from Malmo. Mehmeti
was quick to quash such hyperbole insisting he isn't Ibrahimovic and emphasised that his
versatility by suggesting he could play anywhere along the front line.
'You can't always get what you want. But if you try sometimes.. you get what you need.' Harry has
sought advice from Mick Jagger to soothe the ruffled feathers of Spurs fans pining for 'Marquee'
signings. The words above proved prophetic when Gallas came in and more recently with the arrival
of Friedel and Parker which made even this Spurs diehard eat his words.
Last August Melbourne Victory Chairman Anthony Di Pietro stated that the Club would be releasing
Ricardinho at the conclusion of his loan deal from Parana Clube on December 31, 2011. At the time
Victory were clearing the way for Harry Kewell and needed to free up the International Marquee spot
which Ricardinho occupied.
As we learned last week, Christmas cheer may be high all across the Serie A, but come the
weekend, festivities had to be put on hold for some actual football. This weekend's round of
fixtures was the penultimate before the winter break. So what happened this weekend?
On Saturday, current reigning champions Milan retook their place at the top of the table with a
hard-won victory over struggling Siena.
The MLS Cup Playoffs are under way with New York the first team to advance out of the newly
minted Wildcard round. The first playoff match was televised on FSC. However, with the
Colorado/Columbus match not scheduled to be televised nationally, MLS smartly made the match
available to all fans via the website.
Kenny Dalglish admits he does not yet know Jordan Henderson's best position but insists the
Liverpool midfielder is at the right club.
Henderson, 21, made a £20million switch from Sunderland to Liverpool in the summer as Dalglish set
about creating an English heartbeat to his team.
The size of the fee and the lack of a regular position in the team have seen the England Under 21
international struggle at times to display his best form.
By Jon Levy A month ago it looked like we were in for what could pass for a marquee CONCACAF
friendly. Now that's wrong for a couple reasons. Aside from the fact that no "marquee CONCACAF
friendly" outside of U.S./Mexico exists, both the U.S. and Honduras have now both been hit with the
injury bug. [.
Whisper it, but could Fabio's young Lions make England roar
I was there at the England compound in Phokeng the day after the defeat to Germany at the 2010
World Cup. There was only gloom in the marquee set in the grounds of England's luxury prison camp.
Fabio Capello was sitting in front of us promising change but everyone thought that he was paying
lip service to the notion and that, actually, he was too old to change.
For many Arsenal fans, Saturday brings a mixture of optimism and caution. Following the defeat
at Old Trafford, the future direction of the club has been questioned and debated in the press and
in the pubs alike. The collective voice suggests that Arsenal can no longer compete at the top
level for player transfers and wages.
With the potential dangers of Hurricane Irene threatening the New England Revolution's trip to
face the Philadelphia Union on Sunday, Major League Soccer today announced the game has been
rescheduled for Wednesday, September 7th. The game will kickoff at 8:00 p.m. and is still slated to
air locally on Comcast SportsNet New England and nationally in Spanish on Galavision.
Got this email overnight from England - loved it, so blogged it!

Without doubt the greatest week in the short history of the A-League.
Not the greatest day: that was when the A-League kicked off but certainly the greatest marquee
since Dwight Yorke.
I am currently living in the UK (missing Australia like you wouldn't believe) and I was driving in
my car listening to the radio coverage of Arsenal/ Udinese when they cut to Blackburn Rovers who
had just scored in the Carling Cup "Brett Emerton.
The rumours last week were saying that Arsenal were lining up the Brazilian Jadson from Shakhtar
Donetsk as a marquee signing to announce when Fabregas transfer to Barcelona is confirmed, but
Wenger was directly asked about it on Friday he said: "nowhere near on Jadson" and said the club
were "not talking to Shakhtar about [.
It seems that everyone and his dog now knows that Cesc Fabregas will be playing for Barcelona next
season (except Arsenal.com of course!) and it appears that Arsene Wenger has been dragging his feet
so that he has got his marquee signing ready to be unveiled at the same time. Whether that will
lessen the [.
From the official site:
Liverpool FC confirmed today that they had agreed a fee with Newcastle United for the transfer
of José Enrique.
The club have now been given permission to discuss personal terms with the player, who will
travel to Liverpool to undergo a medical.
Racing Portuense's four latest signings Tom Corner, Josh Dale, Lewis Parker, and Conor Grogan
arrived in Spain to join a team that is already full of enthusiasm.
Academy Manager John Gontier was at the airport to receive the quartet and each one of the
promising youngsters shared Gontier's excitement about the future of Portuense.
Paris Saint-Germain has offered Liverpool the opportunity to sign striker Guillaume Hoarau, it has
been claimed.
According to The Guardian - who source reports in France - PSG are prepared to offload the France
international, and have touted him out to the Merseyside club.
Hoarau scored 11 times for PSG last season and, with the acquisition of Kevin Gameiro expected to
be followed by a marquee signing, the 27-year-old will see himself slide down the pecking order at
the Parc des Princes.
One of the obvious consequences of failing to qualify for the Europa League last season is that it
means Kenny Dalglish and Damien Comolli will have to work harder to bring the best players to
Anfield this summer. As footballers have become more and more short-sighted over the years, even
one season without European football is almost unthinkable for elite players (irrespective of the
fact that they would be joining one the most exciting projects in world football by joining the
Reds this summer).
Two teams with one win a piece after a combined 21 games played isn't exactly a marquee match up
but a national audience will get to see the opening of another soccer specific stadium in Kansas
City's Livestrong Sporting Park. It seems that every new stadium opening in MLS is more impressive
than the last, which is something that will serve the league well in general audience perception
for national broadcasts.
With all but one WIAA girls soccer sectional semifinals set for Thursday night – one will be
played Friday – six matches stand out among the 32 games scheduled across the state.
Five of them feature ranked teams squaring off against one another, including matchups between
the state's top-ranked teams in divisions 2 and 3 and the top four teams in the Division 2 state
poll.
Carlos Tévez proved his value to Manchester City last night with two superb goals that saw them
leapfrog Arsenal into third in the Premier League. The free-kick, which left Tony Pulis grappling
for superlatives, probably could have orbited the earth if it hadn't been stopped by crashing into
the Stoke net.
The Los Angeles Galaxy and New York Red Bulls are two of the top teams in MLS, and are
considered among the favorites to reach this season's MLS Cup Final. When they meet on Saturday
night, they will feature five Designated Players as well as some of the best players in MLS.
Before we get into a preview of the match, which we will post later on today, we wanted to hear
from SBI readers on who they think will win this marquee match-up.
I don't normally spend much time talking about transfers so this is somewhat of an unusual post.
There have been some thoughts in my mind for a while and they clicked in place when I saw the news
that Clarence Seedorf is going to be a free agent in the summer.
In the Arsenalsphere, countless hours and column inches have been devoted to the discussion on
leadership, experience, and mentality issues.
By Jon Levy Royal Wedding kicked off the weekend but the soccer should be nearly as exciting as a
Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen dress (I googled that, I promise), so let's just dive right in to
your Americanized Weekend Preview and viewing guide. MLS This week's marquee MLS matchup pits buddy
forwards Teal Bunbury [.

The MLS All-Star game is hardly Manchester United's only stop on its summer tour of the United
States.
The Red Devils will also be facing three MLS teams in addition to squaring off with FC Barcelona
as part of the World Football Challenge this July.
The Premier League leaders' first stop is Gillette Stadium, for a WFC match against the New
England Revolution on July 13.
Afternoon, all. As was the case this time last week, we're treading unknown
waters. Bloomfield Road has been as foreign a soil as the climbs of Lombardy in recent memory; all
we know for sure is that it's a ground none too equipped with the onset of deep burrowing frost and
the locals don't seem too keen on playing there.
NEW YORK, NY The MLS All-Star Game will return to the New York metropolitan area for the first time
since 1997, the league announced on Tuesday. The 2011 contest will be played at Red Bull Arena in
Harrison, N.J., on July 27. The now-demolished Giants Stadium hosted the first two MLS All-Star
Games in [.
If mid-week soccer action is your thing, then today is a good day for you.
Manchester City takes on Arsenal in the marquee match-up on a very busy Wednesday of soccer
action.
The Citizens will try to pull back into a tie with Manchester United with a win, while Arsenal
will try to score the win to jump past Manchester City in the Premier League standings.
