Spanish Football - La Liga - new season kicks off the 18th of August with newly promoted Clubs,
newly signed players & new uniforms. Here are just a few of the new outfits that will be part of
the Spanish Soccer League season from 5 of the top Clubs. All the Clubs will have new gear as its
part of the "Marketing Strategy" of every year.
The talk about the "Golden Ball Award" candidates & favourites at this time of the year is
obviously premature. However, it is inevitable after we have been blessed with the recently
finished Euro 2012 tournament along with all the World star players on stage. In recent days,
France Football has done its marketing strategy-tactic aimed at the Spanish Market, announcing that

We continue to expand our coverage of American soccer culture with our series "Better Know a
Supporters Group," just like Steven Colbert's "Better Know a District" from "The Colbert
Report".
Our goal: to feature each of the MLS teams' supporters groups. We've sent e-mails to each and every
SG in Major League Soccer and soon you'll be able to check all what each is all about and what
awesomeness they have to contribute to our growing American soccer world.
A couple of months ago, representatives from Section 8 Chicago and the Chicago Fire front office
sat down and came up with the goal of selling 800 Section 8 season tickets for the 2011 season. It
was also decided that Section 8 would expand from Sections 118 & 119 at Toyota Park to cover the
entire north end of the stands - Sections 116-119.
One of the great business success stories of the last couple of years is the mass coupon site
Groupon. For those who don't know, Groupon is a deal of the day website tied into major
metropolitan areas. Members are offered one coupon buying opportunity each day that offers a
significant discount.
The PSG has always been my favorite French club. My father used to bring me to the Parc des
Princes since I was age 5 and I have seen countless matches with some great players like Dahleb,
Susic, Weah, Rai, Leonardo, Pauleta along the way. Now with the arrival of the Qatari financial
backup, the PSG has a unique chance of competing amongst the best teams in Europe.
We're not quite sure what prompted a side eye of such epic proportions from Manchester City
midfielder Nigel de Jong whilst enteringthe Manchester Art Gallery in support of pal, Joleon
Lescott, last night.
An overzealous paparazzo perhaps? A fashion crime in progress?
This marketing strategy is as solid as a house of (lotto) cards. At first we didn't even think twice
about Tuesday's news that Major League Soccer reached an agreement with a lotto ticket company to
potential produce scratch-off games with MLS logos on them. Chalk it up to another weird marketing
synergy that someone on high thinks is going to make the league a bunch of bucks.
Heck is Not Wasting TimeWhen the Red Bulls replaced General Manager Erik Stover with
longtime NBA executive Chris Heck a few weeks ago, it was a signal that an era had ended. Stover, a
specialist in stadium operations, was the right man to lead the club through the transition from
East Rutherford to Harrison, but perhaps not the right person to take the club forward as a
legitimate force on the New York sports scene.
As many readers of this blog will know, some German women who play competitive football posed for
Playboy. These are not members of the national team, but they are women who play high level
football in the country.
March Presentation of 2011 WWC kitTitus Chalk from When Saturday Comes does a nice job with
this story.
Patrick Kavanagh on The Drum website has an interesting blog in favour of a ten team SPL, comparing
it to the idea of "contraction" in US sport where the number of teams is reduced to increase the
talent on show.
I don't agree with his theory or some his arguments and I'm not sure his idea of complete parity in
the share of TV revenues will ever happen.
