Porto and Sporting both stumble in games

FC Porto and Sporting both stumbled in action today, a day after Braga succumbed to their first defeat. Sporting have falling back a few spots in the Portuguese Superliga after drawing today against Maritimo. Sporting looked to cement their fourth place spot but after the draw with Maritimo coupled with Rio Ave and Nacional victories, Sporting now sit tied in sixth spot in the league. Martimo open Week 7 with big win

Maritimo have opened Week 7 of the Superliga (Liga Sagres) with a big road win over Academica. Maritimo took it to the hosts early and Marchino scored at the 13th minute mark, then Baba's first of two made it 2-0 before the half. Braga continue their run atop the Superliga (Liga Sagres), with a victory in Madeira over Martimo. Braga got their markers from J. Benfica and FC Porto open the season with draws

Benfica opened their season at home against Maritimo with a 1-1 draw as the Eagles dominated just about the entire game and only a first half penaly taken by Alonso had Maritimo up at the half. Braga and Maritimo opened up Week 24 with a draw in the Liga Sagres. It was a Good Friday for both teams as the eached picked up a point in a 1-1 affair with both goals coming from the penalty kick spot. Villa, Osasuna, Timo and Valencia

So it looks like David Villa is ready and able to play against Osasuna tomorrow after all.

I'm happy about that. And while I will let this issue slide, I am still of the opinion that bringing Villa into the game against Maritimo on Thursday was the wrong decision. He shoots and scores and we're all really happy about it.

Portuguese outfit Maritimo host the first leg at their Estádio dos Barreiros, having made their last UEFA Cup appearance in 2004/05. However, their European campaign that season ended rather immediately after being eliminated on penalties against Glasgow Rangers.
