It didn't take long for the bottom club Hertha to appoint a new coach after parting company with
Lucien Favre only days after Week 7.
Friedhelm Funkel had had a distinguished spell
at Frankfurt up until last season. However, he was let go in the summer in the hope that a new

With Paulo Guerrero and Mladen Petric sustaining long term injuries, Hamburg are facing a
forward crisis of epic proportion. The weight of a team that is tied on points for the league falls
on the shoulders on young Swede Marcus Berg. No matter who Labbadia might sign, bring up from the
reserves or shift, Berg is still the only proven striker the Dinosaurs have.

Week 2 of the German Bundesliga was much like the opening week as the two big teams of the league
nearly duplicated their results from the opening round.
Champions Wolfsburg continued to show that they are the best team in Germany with their 3-1 road
win against FC Cologne. Edin Dzeko scored his 1st goal of the season and Nigerian Obafemi Martins
added
The Wolves 3rd goal in the 86th minute for the win.

Hamburg shook off their early season funk and tore apart Dortmund at the Nordbank Arena. It was
the 4th straight victory for the Dinosaurs at home against BVB. A series of early goals seemed to
settle the match by the 12th minute. Guy Demel pushed the first over the line after a massive
keeper error in the 4th.

I had the opportunity to speak with Andy Brassell of the BBC's excellent World Football Phone-in
on Up All Night. I want to emphasize that for those of us who follow the Bundesliga, this show,
although based in England, can be a massive resource. Tim Vickery, with his knowledge of South
American Players, and Andy with his knowledge of the continental players as well as the Bundesliga
itself can aid us in getting to understand new players to the league.

It's time to preview the eight most important teams of the upcoming Bundesliga season.
Bayern
Pre-Season: Bayern's pre-season started like all pre-seasons during odd
numbered years by putting between 50 to 100 million Euros into circulation, to make up for not
signing anyone during the even numbered years.

anywhere outside of Madrid. Diego sealed a transfer to Juventus for €24.5m,
while Bayern were willing to spend €30m for Mario Gomez; further bonus payments

That hardly seems fair If you were wondering why Sweden U21 striker Marcus Berg was running rings
around most defenders he came up against at the recent European Under 21 Championships it was
because he was about four years older than most of the other players in the tournament. That's
according to the BBC gossip column, [.

Fantastic performance on U21EURO have launched Marcus Berg, Swedish international striker into
the football orbit. He sank both Belarus and Serbia with seven goals in four
matches and he deserved the title of championship's best player.
The market reacted right away and the price on this blonde striker grew up so his club Groningen
won't sell him for less than 10 million Euros.

As the Azzurri floundered and failed in South Africa, it was left to the Azzurrini to provide
the Italian nation with something at cheer about or at the very least restore some national pride,
which they managed to do, and even more so if it weren't for the great German machine.
Heading to the European U21 Championships in Sweden, the Italy U21 side were the favourites,
along with England and Spain U21's.

Joe Hart dived three times to his left in succession. They were the wrong choices. He then dived
to the right. That too was wrong. It did not matter as he saved the first PK from Marcus Berg and
then Guillermo Molins tried to squeeze the ball to the left hand corner of goal but ended up
hitting the upright which bounced away.

he immediately showed why he was tracked by the number of European clubs. Berg
scored a hat-trick in the opening game against Belarus and thus helped his side record a very
important win, while at the same time he impressed the visiting scouts and he
therefore made a big step towards making a move to much bigger club then Groningen.

UEFA u21 ChampionshipFor the first half hour, the host nation appeared much like the venue, Malmo's New Stadium, a giant
