Wanted: One good National Team to coach to Brazil 2014.
Experience: Won World Cup in 2006, Also coached in 2010
So it seems that lately Marcello Lippi has been job hunting via the media. I think his plan was
to wait around until Prandelli failed and then jump back in to rescue [read more]

While some (primarily English) observers consider Brazil's 1982 "jogo bonito" side to be the
best team never to win the world cup (which is, in itself, ridiculous. The Grande Inter of the
1960s, just to name one, never won the world cup.
French great Zinedine Zidane and Brazilian icon Ronaldo put on their annual Match Against
Poverty event Tuesday, taking on a team of Hamburg SV All-Stars in Germany, and the legend-laden
squad did not disappoint.
Ronaldo scored as part of his team's 5-4 victory, with proceeds from the event going toward
combating poverty in the Horn of Africa.
Bad news for Italy's coach Cesare Prandelli, as one of his most talented forward could miss Euro
2012, on the next June. Antonio Cassano has suffered a small ischaemia after the winning of AC
Milan against Roma last saturday. When it happened the player was with his teamates on the
airplane, coming bacfrom Rome to Milan.

Italy have had a solid qualifying campaign for Euro 2012, which has seen the side go unbeaten
and concede a mere two goals. The side has also looked impressive in some recent friendlies,
beating World Champions Spain 2-1 back in August. Although it could be argued that the Spain squad
fielded that day was somewhat experimental, it is still quite an achievement for a national side
that only a year previously was in crisis and bereft of confidence.
They are two of the games great executioners. Their preferred methods of delivering the coup de
grace could hardly be more different, but they share the same efficient outcome. Back in 1998 it
was Fabio Capello's Milan who were on the receiving end of a cold-blooded calcio killing. If you
want a masterclass in the respective abilities of Alessandro Del Piero and Filippo Inzaghi you
need.
George Vecsey of the New York Times writes of the challenges facing Jurgen Klinsmann as the new
head coach of the US National team.
Klinsmann has the aura of the international soccer celebrity — "sexy," one soccer insider
said, meaning attractive, in the public relations sense. But it would have been instructive, in a
purely laboratory experiment, to give Bruce Arena or Bradley the German squad of 2006 and see if
they could achieve third place.
It is not uncommon to make a coaching change following a World Cup - in looking at the past 2010
FIFA World Cup, the only two managers who had also managed in the previous 2006 FIFA World Cup were
that tournament's two finalists - Marcello Lippi (Italy) and Raymond Domanech (France).
Both Lippi and Domanech saw their teams slump badly in the following tournament, not being able to
move on from the group stages.
Sorry for the lag in postings. Been busy and away. Logging in remotely now. I had planned a
longer post on how much I liked Bradley, why I thought it was time for a change anyway, and why I
thought it wouldn't happen regardless. Guess I was wrong. US Soccer sacked Bradley yesterday and
apparently will be announcing his replacement today.
The year 2006 was one of contrasting fortunes for Italian football. The Azzurri, led by the
dominate displays of captain Fabio Cannavaro and guided by the wise old head of Marcello Lippi,
went all the way at the FIFA finals in Germany to win the country's fourth world crown. At exactly
the same time, the [.
Manchester Utd are the only unbeaten side in the Champions League this season (nine wins,
three
draws).
Barcelona's only defeat in the Champions League this season was in London, when they lost 2-1
at
Arsenal's Emirates Stadium last February.
Barcelona are the best attacking side in this season's competition with 27 goals while
Manchester United possess the best defence with four goals conceded in 12 games.

2006 FIFA World Cup winner took a break following Italy's failed attempt to retain their title in

David Sullivan is a tough man to love. He dresses like a sun-dried Stalin. He's
got the man-management skills of a frisbee. He wants to see the return of Norks on Sunday. He's
friends with David Gold. And, after relegation with West Ham, snarks the
Guardian's Fiver, he wants a return to chest-beating, badge-kissing, half-time-riot-act-reading,
teacup-smashing Englishness in the Hammers dugout.

Marcello Lippi, despite a disastrous second spell in charge of the Italian National team, will
always be held in high esteem by Italian worldwide. After all, this is the man that nearly
immediately redeemed calcio in the face of a match-fixing scandal in the best way possible: by
winning the World Cup.

IN PRANDELLI WE TRUST!
Following the disastrous showing at the 2010 World Cup, Italian fans young and old were looking
for redemption. Their cries for youth on the squad had gone virtually unheralded by Coach Marcello
Lippi. And although he had brought them supreme glory in 2006, he was now the scapegoat for all
that was wrong with the National Team.
Prandelli's Blueprint Notes on the new Italy is a post from: Just Football
You do remember Italy at World Cup 2010 right? Hopeless. David Swan reports
on the newly evolving Azzurri:
There is nothing Italy loves more than being written off, ignored, and forgotten.
Serie A Weekly is proud to present another episode of this beautifully written feature from well
known and respected journalist Giancarlo Rinaldi. As the league takes a break to allow the
National teams a turn we do the same as we look into the not-so-distant but oh-so-glorious past.
We also take a break from the romance of the fixture itself to bring you Giancarlo's personal
memories of.
Well that didn't take long, did it? Shortly after you guys thought you had seen the last of me,
I rise once again, like Marcello Lippi re-taking over gli azzurri in 2008. But hopefully, you know,
I'll be actually successful.
My name is Julian and I'll be taking over blogging duties from Francesco.
I've spent the last decade holding to the dogma that choke holds and headbutts from Gennaro
Gattuso are signs of endearment. Somewhere, Marcello Lippi is nodding.
Whatever the case, Joe Jordan comes off as something of a hero after their skirmish last night.
Not for standing in the face of a snarling dog, but for taking the lickin' and not launching a
backflip into triple lutz on his way to the patented stop, drop and roll that most footballers
employ when scraped with a nail.
Sampdoria vs Genoa: The Derby Della Lanterna is a post from: Just Football
Serie A, after several years of Inter domination, is unusually competitive this season. However,
despite some big games for the main contenders, the biggest match of the week involves two
mid-table teams.
This Wednesday sees Sampdoria and Genoa play each other in the
Genoa Derby, known in Italy as the Derby Della Lanterna, literally 'The Derby of the
Lantern,' in reference to the city's lighthouse.
Some of the less heralded teams in the Italian top flight are also getting into the act. Sebastian
Giovinco is having a breakthrough season with Parma, while Davide Santon will now get first team
football each and every week with Cesena. The young talents that Italy has to offer are finally
getting opportunities to showcase their ability, something that should be very exciting for fans on
the.
This season was something of a new era for Sardinian side Cagliari, who lost coach Massimiliano
Allegri to Milan after a successful two year spell in charge. Under the guidance of the man who won
the Coach of the Year award in each of his two seasons at the Stadio Sant'Elia, they had
comfortably retained their Serie A status and done so playing a high quality brand of attacking
football.
Chances are if you love Serie A then you keep up with the Italian National Team, or gli Azzurri.
The national team has a long history on the national stage. Italy has won the World Cup
tournament 4 times, only second to Brazil's five time championship record. The names Giuseppe
Meazza, Alessandra Del Piero, Dino Zoff and Paolo Rossi have all worn the blue jersey at one time.
