Last weekend's start to the Torneo Apertura in Argentina gave fĂștbol fans the opportunity to move
on from weeks of drama that had suspended the start of the season, but while ratings for River and
Boca matches reflected public excitement for the season's start (if not the AFA's new government
sponsored television deal), the story of the tournament's first weekend was the new era of
Argentine football.

I think going to bed last night before doing my writeup on the Champions League qualifier last
night was for the best. As I looked online at all the familiar places, I noticed that every fan who
wrote was angry as I was. I wasn't to the point of clear thought last night, so I figured if I
slept on it, I would come up with something more balanced to say.

Well, the jersey curse of Jon Hoffman strikes again. Or is about to strike again. This summer, I
bought a Shevchenko jersey, because I love that underachieving Ukranian. The day after I got it, he
was off to AC Milan. In the great jersey sale of DCUTEAMSTORE.com, I got a Gallardo jersey for
Christmas from [.

This is it. The beginning of the 2009 MLS Campaign begins today, with light jogging and some
stretching. I couldn't be happier. Here's the entire scoop on the preseason for DCU. Today, they
are practicing at the RFK turf field. A number of players are not in camp, most notably among them
is Marcelo [.

Seriously? Apparently, yes. If you don't know who Stephen Appiah is, you aren't paying close
attention. He's not Beckham or Blanco, but he's a player that excels internationally, and has a
good club record. Oh, also, he's now being courted by AC Milan. The issue appears to be that
Gallardo won't leave, even if [.

The voting for MLS goal of the year is down to 5 finalists. That list of the 5 finalists does
not contain the clear winner in my mind which was Gallardo's full volley from an impossible (well
at least tough) angle. That is a different story though.
The KC Wizards official blog has asked readers to vote for anyone other than NYRB goalkeeper
Danny Cepero's goal.

Our season has come down to this: cheering for Chicago and New England. Makes you wonder what
you're doing with your life, doesn't it? Now, as I've stated before in posts and in comments, I'm
of two minds on what I'd prefer to occur this week. Do we, A) eek into the playoffs, lose [...]

With 9 games remaining, DC United sit at 31 points, and tied for forth in the Eastern Conference.
In the next 2 months, they have 7 additional matches to play, including the US Open Cup final, and
CONCACAF Champions League Group play. DC will obviously want to win the Open Cup, as it [...]

This "just in". Marcello Gallardo and Gonzalo Peralta off to Munich to see a groin
specialist (what a title!). If they need surgery, which I'll assume they will, they are expected
out a little more than a month. Bryan Namoff had this surgery last season and was back in three
weeks. Immediate repercussions?

Over last weekend I brought to you a list of players that just didn't cut it or have it this year.
Guys that were brought in expecting to start in some cases and contribute to their club's run at a
MLS Cup this season. Those guys didn't work out but some signings from the offseason [...]

Big tip of the Hat to Donovan over at DCenters. He channeled his Swami skills and sucked this post
out of my brain, and put it ever so eloquently on his blog. So, go check it out. And I'll start

The Question, for today, is Marcello Gallardo. Specifically, why do opinions diverge on his
performance so much? The same game that has some writers and commenters raving about him is the
same game that leaves other observers scratching their heads and saying "I don't get it,
what's so special?" Is he a genius, or is he making passes according to a game in his head
that he, and no one else on the pitch, is really playing.

Well, that was an uncomfortable temperature for a truly entertaining game. But, that's what you get
when ABC wants the game at 12. I just hope the ratings were worth having the game played on the
surface of the sun. Where to begin? Oh, I know. Greater than the win, or the [...]

I've been a bit busy today, so sorry for the delay in getting things up on here today. But excuses
aside, let's get down to business as we look at tonight's MLS Primetime Thursday clash between DC
United and New England Revolution. A year ago, DC dominated this season series winning two games
after the opening [.

The morning after a loss is always an interesting thing. Either you are feeling decent about going
on the road and playing better than in previous weeks despite the loss or you start to get that
sense that everything is beginning to come off the wagon here. For DC fans, that reality is

A very interesting week in Major League Soccer. While the goal of the week was easy to figure out
after reviewing the week's 19 goals, the player of the week winner is a little tougher to decide. A
few guys had quality a quality game over the weekend or Thursday night for some Rapids fans. But

Well, I didn't go to this game, and I'm glad about it. I watched it once I got home, and I've made
some observations. - Gallardo is good. Very good. He brings an element that isn't often seen in
MLS, and thats the ability to move around with the ball at your feet [...]
