Yesterday, the World Cup field was finalized. There were 6 play-off games that were all pretty
exciting. My favorite was Algeria sending Egypt home. I'm also glad that Ireland were eliminated on
such a controversial goal. I've never liked them.
Here are the 32 teams that will compete.

For a couple of years, it looked as if "100 Greatest" or "50 Greatest" television programmes
might just eat up the whole of the schedules in Britain. Channels gave over whole evenings to
raiding their archives and there was hardly a subject that they didn't broach. The results, perhaps
predictably, were often mixed but occasionally they got it just about right and this is what
happened with "The 100 Greatest World Cup Moments".

For as bad a stadium as The Swamp could be, Giants Stadium was the backdrop for a few of the most
outlandish goals you'll ever see. Mathis' marathon goal against Dallas, Woly's infamous upper 90
banger, and Youri Djorkaeff and Juan Pablo Angel's zero-angle game-winners were all set in that
soccer purgatory in East Rutherford.

Evening all.
Apologies for not finishing my preview post/s. However considering the game is on Sunday I
thought delaying it was a reasonable thing to do. Besides fatigue has got the better of me
completely today. It is a strange feeling when one minute there is enough energy within me to
challenge Usain Bolt to a race, but the next minute it feels as if challenging Michael Essien in a
sleep marathon contest was more appropriate.

DC United exited the CONCACAF Champions League on Wednesday night. United needed San Juan Jabloteh
to beat Marathon. Instead, Marathon finished in second-place in Group B with a 4-2 win over
Jabloteh. Jerry Palacios had a second-half hat-trick for Marathon.

The evening went about as poorly as it could have for fans of D.C. United, as the Chicago Fire
topped visiting Chivas USA 1-0 to clinch the second spot in the Eastern Conference and Marathon
beat Jabloteh 4-2 to knock DCU out of CONCACAF Champions League play.
United must now win at Kansas City and hope for a few key results from other teams in order to
advance to the MLS Cup playoffs.

United got a goal from rookie Chris Pontius on an incredible 25-yard smash in the sixth minute,
but Lawson Vaughn gave the home side a penalty in the 62nd minute that was put away by Lopez to
draw Toluca even. The 1-1 score line stood at the final whistle.
The draw means United must wait and see what happens in the CD Marathon-Jabloteh game on

Finishing 1-1 against the leader of the Mexican Primera Division on the road is a better result
than most of us expected, and probably a better result than we deserved. Still, thanks to some
inspired play by a few individuals, and some poor shooting by Toluca, we emerged with a single
point.
A win would have secured our spot in the Champions' League quarterfinals, but let's not count
ourselves out yet.

D.C. United gained in improbable 1-1 draw in Toluca tonight to temporarily put the Black and Red
into second place in their CONCACAF Champions League final group stage match. Now they must wait

Two must-win games are on the slate tonight for MLS teams still involved in the CONCACAF
Champions League. D.C. United is in Mexico, and takes on Toluca down in Mexico (8pm,
FSC/Telefutura). Meanwhile in Puerto Rico, the Crew are out to ensure their passage to the third
round (2am, FSC).
It's been a dramatic turnaround for the Black-and-Red in Group B.

With J Hutcherson -- Credit DC United with the smart move. Facing an unlikely road to a win in the
CONCACAF Champions League, they opted against taking a full-strength team to play Toluca. For those
of you pointing at the Group B standings where DC is currently second on goal differential over
third-place Marathon, is this even a question of priorities?

United plays the final match of the Champions League group stage tomorrow at Toluca, Mexico. A
win would give the Black-and-Red a berth in the quarterfinal round of the tournament. This,
however, will prove to be a difficult feat, since United already lost at home to Toluca 3-1 and no
U.S. team has ever won a meaningful game in Mexico.

MLS Debris 09 October @ 09:35 PM EST
With one round to go in the group stage, all three remaining MLS teams still have a chance to
advance. In my eyes, one is a shoe-in, one is a tossup and one needs a well-placed outbreak of
swine flu among their rivals to advance.
Houston
Houston is currently in third place, but they hold the tiebreaker with Arabe Unido.

potential all star due to his pedigree after playing for Boca Juniors, as well as spending some
time in Serie A.

has completed a rather remarkable turnaround in the competition, after going winless last year and
