Good Saturday to you all. Here is the news.
It looks like Manuel Almunia is back in pole position. Or, he would be if Arsenal was a Forumula
1 team and he'd just come fastest in qualifying, but you know what I mean. A mixture of a chest
infection, family tragedy and just plain old poor form meant his start to the season was a bit all
over the shop, but it seems as if the manager is ready to put his faith in him again.

by CARL ELDRIDGE Manuel Almunia has been told by Arsene Wenger that he will remain Arsenal's No
1 goalkeeper.
But the Daily Mail reports that while the Spaniard prepares to face Wolves today he may be
interested in the rave review Wenger has given fellow Frenchman Hugo Lloris, the 22-year-old Lyon
keeper who starred in the Champions League midweek frustration of Liverpool.

Free-scoring Arsenal continued their dominance of Champions League Group H with a stunning 4-1
drubbing of AZ Alkmaar on Wednesday night.
The Gunners are in top spot and unbeaten in their group, and proved far too classy for the Dutch
visitors at The Emirates, where skipper Cesc Fabregas bagged a brace and was joined on the
scoresheet by Samir Nasri and Abou Diaby, who netted a sublime fourth of the night on 72 minutes
after some flowing build-up play from Eduardo and Andrey Arshavin.

by CARL ELDRIDGE Manuel Almunia proved he is good enough to keep Arsenal on track for honours this
season with his performance against the team-that-dare-not-speak-its-name on Saturday.
Questions were asked earlier in the season about the Spaniard and one or two errors didn't
exactly provide the cornerstone of a defence for his suitability as the No.

Arsenal v Tottenham Hotspur
English Premier League
Emirates
Saturday, 31 October 2009
Kick-off: 1245 GMT
With both sides residing in the top-four for much of the early season, one of the country's
oldest and fiercest derbies takes on added significance as Tottenham make the short trip down the
Seven Sisters Road to face familiar foes Arsenal.

by CARL ELDRIDGE What is it with Arsenal and our keepers? If Arsene Wenger has one weakness (and
he probably doesn't other than choice of shirt-tie combo) it must be choosing the incumbent for the
No.1 slot. He was blessed to inherit David Seaman and even then he gave Alex Manninger a chance
ahead of the pony-tailed one.

Alright all,
I'm still half dying from Swine Flu here, its horrible I tell you, absolutely bloody horrible.
Anyway, it didnt stop me from watching the lads the other night and what a great game it was, I
really enjoyed it. It was entertaining and you got that feeling that anything could happen at any
time.

The North London Derby highlights this week's slate of games as Arsenal prepares to entertain
Tottenham Hotspur this weekend.
Somebody in Bristol is smiling today, as the early match on ESPN figures to be the most-watched
game yet on the network.
It's on at 8:45 a.m. on ESPN2, if you're wondering.

by JAMES CURTIS Imagine breakfast in the Wenger household and you might hear Mrs Arsene snapping
at her husband's indecision whether or not to play his Young Guns against Liverpool tonight: "Oh
for heavens sake, let the kids play why wont you," she trumps.
It's a point well made, as for Arsenal fans the more exciting prospect of Carling Cup football
is the chance of seeing the talented youth in a real pressure setting.

Well, last Sunday's match was forgettable - for supporters only; I'd have the players never to
forget it - so I've decided to forget about it. In fact, I haven't even watched it. It's still a
pile of 1's and 0's in the DVR. Maybe someday when I feel really hyper-happy, then I'll use it to
calm me down a bit.

As Wenger ponders on the upcoming Carling Cup fourth round game against Liverpool, he now has a
decision to be made regarding the goalkeeping situation. Vito Mannone has done well since he had to
step in for then injured Manuel Almunia and the boss had no reason to drop him although the
Spaniard custodian has returned, fully recovered from his chest infection.

On the eve of this season, Liverpool manager Rafa Bentiez bemoaned his side's lack of financial
power. However, an analysis of the spending habits of the ‘Big Four' since his appointment in
June 2004 shows that the Spaniard has outspent Sir Alex Ferguson by £80m. Furthermore, when money
raised through player sales is taken into account, Benitez' net spending dwarves Ferguson's by
£95m and only Chelsea have spent more on player recruitment during the same five-year period.

Arsenal threw away the chance of a fifth straight Premier League win as West Ham battled back to
earn a 2-2 draw at Upton Park on Sunday.
The Gunners had looked in complete control following first-half goals from Robin van Persie and
William Gallas.
However, Carlton Cole pulled a goal back before substitute Alessandro Diamanti netted a late
penalty.

Arsene Wenger has come out to declare in public his confidence in the current crop of goalkeepers
at his disposal. The Arsenal manager claims there is enough strength in the keepers on their books
to help them battle for trophies and upset the football odds both domestically and in Europe.

A very good Saturday to all of you. No Arsenal today as they will only be playing tomorrow. So
full preview only on tomorrow's post.
Arsenal held their AGM on Thursday and it was a much relaxed one compared to the one held post
the semifinal lost to Man United. There were no one in the party who questioned Arsene Wenger's
actions or tactics.

So almost without us (or me, anyway) even realizing it, we appear to possibly have a goalkeeping
controversy on our hands.
After Manuel Almunia went down a few games into the season with a "chest infection", and last
season's number two, Lukasz Fabianski, was also out with a long term injury, we had to hand the
gloves over to young Italian Vito Mannone.

First of all, a big happy birthday to Arsene Wenger who has reached the big 6-0. I hope he
enjoys his glass of red tonight.
There is some team news ahead of our game on Sunday, Fabianski and Nasri made good comebacks the
other night in the reserves but Sunday comes too early for them, Denilson should be back in four
weeks and Djourou is out until March at least.

See below for match highlights followed by Arsene Wenger's post-match
interview.
Tuesday's match with AZ Alkmaar was full of deja vu on so many levels. Arsenal created a similar
amount of chances to most of their other matches this season. Also, our inability to take our
chances and kill the game off with the second goal was reminiscent of last season.

A decent if slightly frustrating win on Saturday against Birmingham City. We really should have
put the game away easier than we did. We also conceded another sloppy goal for which I think
William Gallas and Vito Mannone have to take equal shares of the blame.
Despite Mannone making another mistake, not asserting himself sufficiently for the Brum goal I'd
still select him ahead of Manuel Almunia for tomorrow night's Champions League game in the
Netherlands.

Arsenal are fantastic right now. Simply brilliant. Wonderful play. Fast and thrilling, even when
they lose. Perfect passing. Crisp finishes. Superb combination play. You get the picture.

Arsenal's goalkeeper stocks have risen with the return from injury of both Manuel Almunia and
Lukasz Fabianski.
First-choice shot-stopper Almunia has been out with a chest infection and is only rated a small
chance to return against Birmingham City this weekend but Fabianski, who has not played yet this
season, may be called on after recovering from knee surgery.

Which Gallas will show up?
Today see the visit of Birmingham to Ashburton Grove. The incident 2 seasons ago at St. Andrew's
will no doubt still rankles in the mind of all Arsenal fans. The Eduardo broken leg incident
brought about sad memories of that particular season. First for the bad injury that the Brazilian
suffered at the hand (or legs) of Martin Taylor but more importantly, it was the start of which
Arsenal lost the impetus for the Premier League title.

Wenger said:
"Carlos Vela has not landed, so he will not be involved. We lost Nicklas Bendtner today in training
from a recurrence of his groin. Eduardo is not back yet, because he still has a thigh injury."
"Lukasz Fabianski is not completely back. We hope he will be very soon, because he has trained
normally.

On the Thursday and Friday following an international break, the club generally goes into damage
assessment mode. The question is never, "Is anyone hurt?" But, rather, "Who is hurt, and for how
long?" Last month, I posted my recurring international break nightmare. It is also the time to
forgot all the "Cesc-to-anywhere-but-Arsenal" stories, which for some reason continue to get
Gooners all worked up.

availability for selection.
