UEFA Power Rankings 7 February 2012 - The 90th Minute Soccer Blog
Below are my weekly power rankings for the top (8) clubs teams in UEFA. These rankings are a
combination of their play in domestic and UEFA competitions.
The rankings haven't changed from the last (late January) as the top three remain the same.
Manchester City have officially went out from another competition, this time it's the Carling
Cup after Roberto Mancini's side only managed to get a 2-2 draw against Liverpool in the
competition's second leg, while getting beaten 1-0 in the first meeting.
Mancini himself was very disappointed at that failure but once again he put the blame on
refereeing decision instead of his team's own performance, which the manager though already
pleasing enough.

Manchester City finally ended their bad run and also kept their lead at the top of the premier
league after picking up a pretty hard fought victory against Wigan Athletic on Monday.
Bosnian international striker, Edin Dzeko, ended his 11th matches goal drought to bring joy
again for Man City's faithful after Roberto Mancini's side were disappointed in FA Cup and Carling
Cup matches few days ago.
Si, una vez mas en Enero la IFFHS nos pone hacer corajes por su inverosímil clasificación, pero
de todas formas se las traigo para que no se queden con la duda:

After having a relatively quiet couple of weeks, Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli is
making headlines once again for a bust up with team mate Micah richards during the team's training
session on Thursday.
This comes at a time when the club is preparing to face Arsenal on Sunday in a must win fixture
if they want to continue leading the table.
Having just suffered their first defeat in the league against Chelsea last Monday, another
important challenge must be faced by Manchester City this weekend as an in-form Arsenal are coming
to Etihad stadium.
Despite the difficulty of the upcoming match, City's manager, Roberto Mancini apparently isn't
worrying that much especially since they have a big boost with the potential return of Micah
Richards for this Sunday.
I would like to start by congratulating Manchester City FC for producing a resounding victory
for football.
By losing to Chelsea last night in the match amusingly referred to by someone on Twitter as "El
Cashico," they have helped demonstrate to the world just how amazing Arsenal's achievement in going
a season unbeaten really was.

By Puck Ladies and Gents, welcome back into the Happy Hour. This week has been a series of
disappointments for Puck and company. Both Manchester teams uneventfully crashed out of the UEFA
Champions League, and Charlie Weis is leaving the Sunshine State to coach the woeful Kansas
Jayhawks. Needless to say, many alcoholic libations are [.
Thursday becomes Fergsday 1) Thursday nights become big again. It is a certain scenario that we
will have each of the current big four (yes I know, I have replaced Liverpool with City) live on
our screen over a period of three nights midweek. 2) For those worried about the effect on
England's UEFA coefficient, [.
City are proving to be a strong contender for the Premier League title this season and one
player who has been instrumental in the Club's unbeaten run and fantastic form is Yaya Toure.
Toure who joined City last summer after a misunderstanding with his former club FC
Barcelona, has proved to be one of the club's most important signings with the 28 year old defensive
midfielder going on to become a key player in Mancini's line up.
There are multiple story lines that could be woven into a discussion on Napoli's win over
Manchester City in the Champions League on Tuesday. The partenopei, an average club paying average
wages to a relatively small squad, defeated the oil-sheik's wealthy play toys. On a broader level,
the team from the inferior Serie A beat the club from the best league in the world to take second.

The Confederation of African Football has released its short list for 2011 CAF African Player of
the year. The list includes usual suspects Didier Drogba of Ivory Coast, Samuel Eto'o of Cameroon
and Seydou Keita of Mali.
Other players short listed for the prestigious award include: Asamoah Gyan, Yaya Toure, Kevin
Prince-Boateng, Moussa Sow, Gervinho, Adel Taarabt and Andre Ayew.
Manchester City FC has launched Sky Blue – the club's first ever international membership
programme, with specific benefits for fans in the UAE.
Manchester City FC's Champions League hopes seemed to over when Sergio Agüero stepped up and
scored the virtually the last kick of the game to give Roberto Mancini's side an unlikey 2-1
victory over Villarreal. City's victory takes them on to four points, one behind second-placed
Napoli in Group A, while after a third defeat Villarreal need a miracle when the teams reconvene in
Spain on 2 November.
Real Madrid are on the verge of the Champions League knockout phase after opening up a
five-point lead in Group D on a night when a poor Bayern Munich display saw them miss a chance to
open up a gap on Napoli. Elsewhere Inter Milan and Benfica moved to the top of their respective
groups.
Madrid have yet to drop a point this season in the Champions League and they comfortably beat
Lyon 4-0 at the Bernabéu tonight.
Roberto Mancini's current success in building his multi talented and expensive squad at
Manchester City apparently gives him the addiction in keeping his job as long as possible, although
he understand that it won't be an easy task.
Mancini, who still have a year contract with the Eastlands after this season, admitted his wish
on continuing to coach Man City for years to come but there haven't been any talks made yet with
the club's management.
Let me take you back to November 4th 2010. Napoli played Liverpool at Anfield. Napoli were 1-0
ahead thanks to an Ezequiel Lavezzi goal after 28 minutes and remained ahead with 15 minutes to
play. Napoli fell apart to lose 3-1. The Partenopei could not cope with the Premier League sides
ability to increasing the intensity as they sought to level and eventually win the game.
So after 20 years the long wait is nearly over for Napoli as they embark on their first season in
the Champions League since the glory days of the late 80′s and early 90′s, an era in the club's
history dominated by Diego Maradona. Now its the turn of Edinson Cavani, Ezequiel Lavezzi and Marek
Hamsik to display their abundant talents in European football's premier.
Just as it was expected, Manchester City striker, Edin Dzeko received acknowledgment for his
recent fine performances in the league after being named as Barclays Player of the Month.
Obviously the award was designated for the player's fine form in August, scoring in all of Man
City's matches for that month, including the wonderful quart-trick he bagged against Tottenham
Hotspurs on City's latest premiership match.

Andy Carroll scored two goals as Liverpool kept their faint hopes of a top-four finish alive
with an emphatic 3-0 win against Manchester City FC.
City started the evening 11 points ahead of their opponents in fourth, the final place for a
Champions League qualifying berth, but Roberto Mancini's men never looked like claiming a victory
that would have moved them above Chelsea FC.
