Bafana Bafana and Everton FC midfielder Steven Pienaar has been named the 2009 Bafana Bafana
Player of the Year.
The announcement was made at a glittering ceremony on Thursday night (19 November 2009) at the
Sandton Convention Centre.
Among others in attendance were the Minister of Justice Jeff Radebe as well as the 2002 Brazil
World Cup squad winning captain Cafu.

Several of the former Chicago Fire players and staff were surprised to see their old striker
waiting by the locker room upon arrival. Hristo Stoichkov gave grand abrazos to his former mates,
including Bob Bradley, Carlos Bocanegra, DaMarcus Beasley and Mike Sorber.
There have been rumors that Stoichkov may be the next coach of the Mamelodi Sundowns in South
Africa's PSL.

parted ways this week.
But speculation was already rife about Rosslee's future with sources saying that he had already

The African Champions League isn't the only game in town this weekend.
The African Confederations Cup gets ready to crown two finalists for their grand championship game
this weekend, as well.
CS Sfaxien of Tunisia and El Merreikh of Sudan could clinch places in the big games this
weekend.
In Group A, Sfaxien must beat Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa in Pretoria to be certain of making
the final.

While doing some research today for the upcoming African Cup of Nations, I came across the
Wikipedia entry for South Africa's top flight league, the Premier Soccer League. The thing that
immediately stood out to me was the club crests. I couldn't help thinking if I was in the right
place or not, because some of the crests are so pathetic that I would be ashamed of them if I
played for a ten-years-old girl's side.

- Ugandans are awfully suspicious this morning. Needing South Africa to either beat or draw with
Zambia in Capetown to qualify for the 2008 African Cup of Nations, the Bafana Bafana failed to do
either, losing 1-3 to the Chipolopolo. The South Africans beat Zambia, 1-0, at Lusaka in October of
last year. Does Uganda really have any right to complain?

We all know the World Cup is coming to South Africa in 2010.
What we don't talk much about is the South African domestic game.
The South African season opens on August 4th with the Charity Cup, an exhausting four-team event
that traditionally attracts crowds over 70,000.
Four clubs, voted for in a month-long telephone poll, will compete in two morning semi-finals with
the winners given just a short break before returning for the final, later the same day.
