Swedish midfielder Erik Friberg became the latest Seattle Sounder to depart this off-season, moving to Swedish club Malmo on Monday in a transfer announced by the Sounders.

Friberg played 26 matches for Seattle, recording a goal and assist for the Sounders.

The off-season has been a busy one for the Sounders, who had already lost goalkeeper Kasey Keller to retirement, James Riley and Tyson Wahl in the expansion draft, as well as Nate Jaqua and Pat Noonan in the re-entry draft.

U.S. defender and Women's World Cup star Ali Krieger, who plays her trade for FFC Frankfurt in Germany, was originally scheduled to attend the second half of the USA's training camp in Los Angeles. Due to several injuries to her teammates, and a run of poor league results, Krieger's club requested that she stay in Germany.

Steve Cherundolo got the start for Hannover 96, losing 2-0 to Standard Liege in Belgium. Both Group B teams advanced to the knockout stage of the competition. Standard Liege got their first goal in the 25th minute, doubling the lead in the 56th. Cherundolo picked up an 11th minute yellow card. Jozy Altidore went the distance for AZ in a scoreless draw with Malmo in Group G.

The ill-tempered affair saw Gers end the game with nine men after having both Steven Whittaker and Madjid Bougherra pick up straight reds for 'hoying the ball around willy-nilly' and 'planting elbows in craniums' respectively.
