SINGAPORE, 07 JUNE 2011: The new-look Singapore team cruised to a 4-0 victory over the
visiting Maldives team in the international friendly held on June 7 2011 at Jalan Besar Stadium.
The match started off with a new captain for our national team and it was none other than
20-year-old Hariss Harun, who was also playing in his new role as a centre back.
Tomorrow sees Singapore take on The Maldives in a friendly that both will use as vial preparation
ahead of World Cup preparations.
One player missing from the squad, despite having been called up initially, is Medan Chiefs Shahril
Ishak. The Medan Chiefs play in the breakaway Liga Primer Indonesia which, under the old PSSO
regime, was not recognised and was effectively an illegal league not recognised by PSSI, AFC and
them doyens of transparency and fairness, FIFA.
According to Liga Singapura Singapore have lined up four friendlies ahead of their World Cup
Qualifiying against either Chinese Taipei or Malaysia.
No mention of the Indonesian friendlies has been made in Indonesia as far as I'm aware.

Muang Thong United's defender Zesh Rehman has been called up by Pakistan ahead of next week's AFC
Challenge Cup in Malaysia. Pakistan have been drawn with India, Chinese Taipei and

Myanmar are hosting Bangladesh which is interesting. Despite sharing a land border there only used
to be one flight a week between Yangon and Dhaka!
