The National Indoor Soccer League is now the Major Indoor Soccer League.
Sound familiar? It should.
This will be - if you're multi-point scoring at home - the third outfit to call itself the MISL.
The most recent two have lineage that gets intertwined, but it's basically MISL 3.0. I'd question
the wisdom of announcing the change 10 days before the season opens, but, whatever.

Bring up the topic of indoor soccer and you're bound to get several opinionated viewpoints on
it. Many soccer fans love it. Many hate it. But no matter which side of the Atlantic you live on,
the fact of the matter is that both the United States and, to a lesser degree, the United Kingdom
has had an interesting history involving the indoor game.

From time to time, I'll review books that strike my fancy. The first one would have been a
must-have for my library even if a friend hadn't written it. Hot Winter Nights: A
Game-by-Game History of the Major Indoor Soccer League 1978-92 was a labor of love for my man
Rich Paschette and it's a treasure trove for indoor soccer aficionados and
stat/sports encyclopedia geeks like me.

Galaxy beat writer Billy Witz points out today that instead of resting up for Sunday's crucial
contest against Toronto, the team could have been on the road playing meaningless exhibitions if
David Beckham was healthy.
He's not, of course, and likely won't play this weekend.
Wonder if the AEG bean counters will see the error of their ways and ease up on the schedule to
give the Galaxy a better chance of actually fielding a competitive team in MLS games?
